All great ideas. I will make a cover letter for her to bring in with her.

Thanks all for the great info. I'm not going to worry about it. We've been married for 15 years.

Sorry if in the wrong place.
My Thai wife has an interview for her tourist visa at the US Consulate in Chiang Mai coming up soon. Any tips on how to prepare? What should she bring....I've heard bank records, copies of chanotes, marriage certificate. Any advice is appreciated.

Buy a 200 baht Sonoff switch on Lazada, and turn on OFFLINE ALERT and the eWeLink app on your phone to control it will receive a PUSH message when the device goes offlne or comes online, ie power or internet failure.
This is a great idea and even better is they have an LED on them that blinks when the internet is down. Plug it in somewhere you can see it and you'll know the internet is down. You will have to connect it wirelessly to the internet where you are but once connected (easy to do) you'll know. You will have to buy/make a short power cord for it. You do not need an output device for it to work. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/wifi-sonoff-i291272269-s483786280.html?c=&channelLpJumpArgs=&clickTrackInfo=query%3Asonoff%3Bnid%3A291272269%3Bsrc%3ALazadaMainSrp%3Brn%3Ab2cde86d5cc10ac6e7aa61577a9e7f36%3Bregion%3Ath%3Bsku%3A291272269_TH%3Bprice%3A142%3Bclient%3Adesktop%3Bsupplier_id%3A100100969%3Bpromotion_biz%3A%3Basc_category_id%3A12090%3Bitem_id%3A291272269%3Bsku_id%3A483786280%3Bshop_id%3A130677&fastshipping=0&freeshipping=0&fs_ab=2&fuse_fs=1&lang=en&location=Bangkok&price=142&priceCompare=&ratingscore=4.746212121212121&request_id=b2cde86d5cc10ac6e7aa61577a9e7f36&review=264&sale=2703&search=1&source=search&spm=a2o4m.searchlist.list.i40.5b915199bAnCuB&stock=1

I had a parcel that was marked as delivered but never got here. Went to the post office. The postman came out and said he was sorry but it fell off his motorbike. The sender required I file a complaint at the post office so I could prove it was a delivery problem. They had me fill out a form and asked how much the product was worth. I put 1000 baht as I had paid around 35USD. He then said the delivery man would have to pay for it. I was clear that I didn't care who paid as I never got the product and they marked it as delivered. The next day the delivery guy showed up with the package which had been opened. He said someone turned it in saying they got it by mistake but didn't know until they opened it. Funny as he told me it fell off his bike. The product I ordered was there and was not damaged. All ended okay.
I had been receiving stuff from AliExpress almost every day for about a year. I'm sure the postman was wondering what the farang kept getting. Once he realized he was going to pay 1000 baht for some LED lights he didn't need, they mysteriously found there way back to me.
A close Thai friend lives in Saraburi and she has had many many things stolen over her lifetime of living there. She won't use the post office for anything.

20 people die and not one autopsy found the poisoning. Like I have always said here, if it "looks" like we did it, then it was done. Doesn't matter if it was done right.

Same thing happened to me. For the longest time, the shipping price would not change between browsing price and logged in price. After I had purchased probably 10 or 15 items over about 6 months, then it changed. It would go from 30 to 44 or something like that each time. It wasn't the distance as they knew where i was from the start. I have no doubt they saw that I do purchase from Lazada regularly so they upped the shipping as they figure it won't change my decision. Just another way to add profit.

Hello,
I have an American friend who has been living in Thailand for about 10 years. He is currently staying on a Non-O-A visa that is extended each year. He needs to travel to America soon. He will obtain a re-entry permit from Immigration prior to leaving Thailand (as he has done in the past).
There is no trouble for him to get to America. He is concerned about his ability to get back into Thailand.
He is 82 years old and has been looking for the required Covid insurance to enter Thailand. He has not been able to find any company here nor in America that will offer the insurance due to his advanced age.
I understand that if he were arriving in Thailand on a Tourist visa, he would require the Covid insurance. But holders of a yearly extension of a Non-O-A visa do not require insurance. As he will obtain a re-entry permit prior to leaving Thailand, will he need Covid insurance to return?
To note, he has been double vaccinated here and will have his booster before he leaves the country. He is also happy to stay the required quarantine period at an approved hotel upon arrival.
Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated. I have contacted the TAT but have not heard anything back as of yet.
Thank you.

Never ever heard about customs sending back a parcel, how possible ?!
I was certain the stogies had ended up on the commanders desk. Just wrote off the loss. When I got an email 3 months later from the guy I've been buying from for years, I was shocked. They came by EMS and had a return address. They were returned but by a "very slow boat". The same thing happened with the second box of 25. But I'm not going to try anymore. I'm just not that lucky.
I'd sure like to know a good way to get some in.

I had been shipping Cubans here starting about 15 years ago. Until 3 years or so ago, I never had a problem. Always from the same place, always shipped by normal post. I live in the North. A few years back I had 100 cigars shipped. I got a note from Customs to go to the office in MaeSai. Upon arrival, they showed me the parcel, told me cigars were in it and refused delivery to me. They said they would return the shipment. I was blown away when I got an email from my supplier 3 months later that they did indeed get the parcel back. Since then, I sent one bundle of 25 which was stopped and I did get that through with a 1600 baht "fee". Next one again of 25 was not allowed and they made it very clear to me that I would not get cigars through customs. I then sent a box to a friend in Chiang Mai and the same thing happened, they called him in and then said they would be returning it.
So for at least 3 years now, I haven't been able to get my quality Cubans shipped in. I have been shipping them to a friend in the States that brings them with him on his travels here. Of course with Covid, I haven't seen anything new for quite a while. I'm down to about 100 left and only allow myself 2 a week. I'm really hoping the borders will open back up. I need a refill.

I stayed there in June of this year. The first customers there upon reopening.
Agoda has it listed as a 5 star. The only thing 5 star about it is the view. The beach is only decent at high tide and only in a certain area or else you’re walking on rocks and shells. Two swimming pools. One is very nice and the other mediocre. Unless you get the golf cart, you’re walking up VERY STEEP hills, especially from the top pool to the top (above it) rooms where we were staying. No safety measures working in the cable car when it broke on us. We had to scream for someone to hear us to send help. Breakfast is very poor. Nothing around so without a car, you’re not going anywhere. I wouldn’t go back, no matter what the price. We got it for a deal at 100 bucks US a night and I don't think it was worth that. They deserve bad reviews, but probably not what this guy did. I purposely didn't post a review as I know, as seen here, what can happen.

I brought my mother here 5 years ago with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. She is 87 now. It was a wonderful move for her. Took a while for her to get used to but then she loved just sitting out on the patio in the tropical garden and climate. It really was perfect. About 2 years ago, she fell and broke the ball off the top of her femur. It’s been very difficult since then. She is now fully bed-ridden, 24/7.
We have a full time live-in caregiver. Her and my wife take care of my mother. It’s a lot of work. We tried and tried to find a good caregiver but all we found was people who didn’t want to work. And they wanted a ton of money for doing very little because they were a “caregiver”. Really, they were just a baby sitter that has to change diapers and cook meals for her but that cut into their “phone time”. Finally we got my wife’s sister to do the job and it’s been great.
It’s certainly put a damper on our lives but I chose that as I didn’t want her in a “facility” in the States that would ignore her.
As for the immigration part, I had an issue. I put 800K in an account for her just for that reason. The mistake I made was to put it in both our names as I don’t think she’ll be with us for too much longer. Immigration said that with 2 names, I needed 1.6M in that account, even though I have another account in my name with over 1.6 in it. Round and round with them, and with some great advice from UbonJoe, I got her as a dependant on my visa/extension. No money needed in the bank for her, no proof of incoming funds. I will say the immigration office here at first told me there was no such thing and were telling me to take her out of the country (visa run) and start over to get the 3 months of seasoning on the funds. I showed them pictures of her in the hospital bed in our house (per their request) and they still kept saying that (visa run) was the only way. Then after arguing to the point they finally realized that I wasn’t able to take her across the border, they gave in on the dependant visa. They did make me go to the US consulate to get “proof” she was my mother. While I did have my birth certificate, it was not needed as the proof is simply an affidavit they notarize. Armed with that, they agreed to the visa. At the very end, they said she MUST come in for her picture. So out of bed, in a wheel chair with catheter hanging, we brought her to immigration. The only good part of all this was I forced them to stay about 20 minutes late since it took so long to get her prepped for the trip. Topping it off, there is no wheelchair access at this office. I made 3 of the workers there come out and help carry her up the stairs. They did everything they could to make it hard on us and it ended up biting them in the A##.
But, it’s all done and she’s a dependant of me now. Until they change that rule at least. I’d bet you could do the same.
Best of luck to you with your Mother. I do completely understand.

Hello,
My family will be moving to Thailand permanently before the end of this year. I am American over 50, my wife and son are Thai. I plan to do a retirement visa. We also plan to bring my mother, who is 81. She is no longer able to manage her daily affairs, so I do that.
I have about 1.8M Baht in a Thai bank that's been there for many years. I will use that to satisfy the 800K requirement for my visa. I am wondering about my mother. I handle all her finances and she has no significant money in her name. My wife and I will take full responsibility for her and do have legal authority (in America) to handle all her personal and financial needs. Do I need to open a Thai account in HER name, putting a separate 800K into it and then wait the 3 month (I think) waiting period for her to get a visa or can I link her visa to my account? I simply don't want to go through the hassle of opening another bank account in Thailand.
I would rather do the visa using funds in a Thai bank account rather than the monthly/yearly income proof. I think it would be easier.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi,
My Thai wife bought some land in Thailand in February of this year. She paid 3.6M baht for 6 rai. We are thinking of selling it soon and project it will sell at 1M per rai, or 6M baht. I understand all the taxes except the withholding. I see 1% or 5-37%. I doesn’t make sense. This was bought in her personal name, there is not corporation or business. Can you estimate the taxes we can expect to pay? Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Thanks for the response. I guess I'm happier thinking it's a Hotmail issue rather than censorship.
I've never been able to get a response from Hotmail so I'll just have to figure a plan B to get emails back and forth.

I have been traveling to Thailand about once a year for the last 7 or 8 years. I have noticed each and every time, I hear from friends on my return that they never got emails from me and that I never got some that they sent. There doesn't seem to be any particular person/email address that doesn't go through, it's different every time. To one friend on this last trip, some emails I sent went through, and some didn't. None of the ones he sent me came to me. Neither the sender or receiver (going either way) gets any kind of non-delivery message, it just doesn't get there. I checked my Sent folder and my messages were definitely sent. I never have this problem in the US, only in Thailand. I guarantee there is nothing in any emails coming or going that could be deemed bad to anyone. They are simply friendly correspondences, no attachments, no pictures, no nothing. I guess I could understand it if there was "smut" coming or going but that's just not the case. This last trip there were 2 or 3 people that said they never got email from me, and that they sent some to me that I never got. I truly don't think this is a hotmail problem, I think it is some kind of censorship or blocking but I can't figure out why. Has anyone had similar experiences or problems? Thanks for any help.

Hello,
I am new to this site/forum and would like some advice on shipping companies or experiences regarding getting my household belongings shipped here. We will be moving permanently to Chiang Rai next year and am trying to line things up. We are moving from the US and I'm guessing I can fill part or all of a sea container. Any help/advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !!

I just got off the phone with Mint and the international roaming is 10 bucks per day or 40 bucks for 7 days. So each time I need an OTP from my US bank It will cost me 10 bucks. VERY lousy deal.
If anyone comes up with a carrier that works for the banks sms, I'd sure be thankful to know. On that note, I tried both Google voice and skype (both paid) but neither worked for my banks.
