Sounds like you are on an extension of stay based on marriage.  You are not on a visa entry.

You can leave whenever you like and apply for a multi non-O (marriage).  Leaving the country without a re-entry permit will snuff out your extension.  No need to tell immigration anything.

And when you want to go back to an extension of stay you can do so within the last 30 (maybe 45) days of any 90 day entry on your non-O.

Thank you Upnotover for the clarity. I think I will move forward with this for the time being knowing I can always go back to the extension of stay. Much appreciated.

  2. I have not found this exact topic yet so I am starting a new thread.

I have been in Thailand for just over 4 years now and I obtained a Non-O based on marriage shortly after arriving and have been renewing it each year without any trouble, BUT  in a few months, when it is time to renew again, I want to get a 1 Year Multiple Entry Non-O visa. I have several reasons for wanting to do this.

My question is - has anyone else done this and is there anything that I need to be aware of when doing this that might cause me problems?

I am thinking I can just leave the country close to my current visa expiration date ( Should I notify immigration that I am leaving? So not to void my current visa? ). I was thinking of heading to Savannakhet and getting the Multiple Entry Non-O good for 1 year and then come back in to Thailand and do 90 day border runs there after.

And if I wanted to switch back to the Non-O based on marriage, it should be possible at anytime as long as I am in Thailand on a Non-O and have all the proper documents - Correct?

Thanks all for your experience and knowledge.

  3. I have been living in Khao Nor, Nakhon Sawn now for the past year. It is the mountain just off highway 1 where the bats come out every evening. It is about 40 km north of Nakhon Sawan city close to the KPP border. Have not seen any farang out this way; do any of you live near me?

  4. I recently purchased a new fridge and it came with a 2 prong plug but also had about 3 meters of ground wire in a drawer that was provided to earth the appliance. There was a grounding screw on the back of the appliance frame which I connected one end to and the other end got a hardwire connection to the green ground wire in the J-box for the fridge. All ground wires in my home run back to a ground bar on the breaker box and then on to a copper grounding rod buried 2m into the earth.

I was a little shocked myself that this very expensive 19.4cubic foot fridge did not simple come from the factory with a standard three prong plug. I get that not all outlets in Thailand are grounded, but I would have thought on a top model fridge they would assume that the house the fridge is being installed in has grounded outlets not the other way around.

Minor incovience to me to make it right but not a big deal and the parts to make it right were supplied just a bit of extra labor and thought to get it done.

  5. From Vancouver and now in Chiangmai...less expensive more opportunities. I still do miss a nice walk in Stanley park on a warm day from time to time. Sent from my iPhone using ThaiVisa app

Ah yes, I used to run the sea wall there while I lived in English bay of the West End one summer. Took my wife there two Octobers ago for a tandom bike ride right before we moved here. Really a nice place!

  6. I just went through this process and not even my immigration office knew what the correct procedure was. It was a bit of a headache but in the end it worked out. What we ended up having to do is this:

    1. Take Marrige cert. to my consulate to verify authenticity and then draft a affidavit that I wrote in the office and the consular stamped and signed.

    2. Translate both the certificate and the stamped affidavit into thai.

    3. Send both the certificate and the affidavit as well as a photo copy of each to the Ministry of Foriegn Affairs. (Out of everyone we delt with regarding this, they were by far the most knowledgable on the issue)

    4. Ministry sends back a stamped version of the affidavit and that is what proves the Marrige.

    Good luck.

  7. Noted about the KPP. Thanks for the heads up.

Not so worried about the driving. I drove there last year and it seemed to come naturally to me. Excited to have nicer people around though... Manhattan is filled with a lot of not so nice drivers and people. Everyone is in a rush and no one care about anyone else.

How many expats do you think there are in Nakhon Sawan? Is it a tight community or do they blend in with the locals more?

    Thanks again.
