No contact with his family for 10 years...obviously came to Thailand to "get away from it all and start over." If it was an unnatural death, it's most likely he go involved in financial dealings with shady characters or a personal relationship with a shady person (people). I don't see why a family member in America, who obviously wasn't close to him is getting all exercised at his death; and surely nothing will come of it from 10,000 miles away. As the recent case of the Aussie death in Surin, it took years of footwork and the expense of lots of money to find the killers...and this in a case where the cause of death was clear. Best to let sleeping bodies rest in peace.

Well thankfully some families out there do care despite being lost in Thailand for 10 years etc,i would not of thought the general attitude of families was to give up on their siblings just because they choose to live a life in another country,it's credit to them and goodluck to them." To let sleeping bodies rest in peace" I guess thats what these corrupt authorities would like eh??

  2. Why stop at Tier 1 for Thailand?

USA should create a Tier 0 reserved for countries which it will completely ignore human rights abuses in exchange for special benefits.

Yes totally agree and not to mention their own human trafficking problems in their southern borders..When your own economy is non productive you go after others, this is how the grand U.S.A. conducts its self globally, the Iraq, Libyian and Syrian crisis are all a result of the U.S.A. destablising for their own gains and means, the global refugee crisis is directly their fault..its all about controlling other countries..It appears to be on the outside about human trafficking ,really its about gaining more security control...I say keep your filthy blood stained hands out of Thai business, really who do they think they are??

  3. I am sometimes flummoxed by posts on this site. When a crime is reported you often get comments like it is the only country in the world where crime occurs...or like in this instance...where never before was there ever a person in the whole world ever caught in possession of drugs.

What sheltered lives must some people have lived.

The thing is as some others have pointed out ..When your in Thailand don't take drugs , i generally have a personal kind of travellers motto, when in Rome etc ,

If i want to smoke weed i do it somewhere like Amsterdam or where it's accepted , if i want a snort do it in mexico etc etc ..When i'm in Thailand its mainly beer as i can see whats in it //or the odd whisky, but common sense has to prevail, otherwise it's asking for trouble , you shouldn.t even walk through the airport with a valium ( even if you bought it on sukhumvit) doesnt matter they'll nail you for it , even a kamagra is cause to hassle, as loose as Thailand maybe you have to be sharp, i think some people get deluded by that mix of looseness and ultra strict law enforcement which can be highly costly.

  4. That's sad stuff. Even if they've made their own bed, it must be pretty harsh to have to live with the consequences in what can be an unforgiving place.

Good on you for going out of your way to help others like that.

Totally agree, there's alot of bashers on here that like to jump at the chance to point the fingers at the dumb farangs that have made their "stupid mistakes" , whilst they wallow in the idea that they are smarter and wiser and of course nothing has happened to them because they are sooo smart(sorry karma works in mysterious ways, pray) , wow to be sooo smart!!

I think being smart and in fact "lucky" is one thing, but too totally lack compassion or even pity ( Smart "farangs" in "Thailand" you'd think they would've learnt that?!) shows such a lack of substance and understanding..I often wonder what they get out of knockin people down? Maybe a sense of self worth??Wishful..

I personally think that some of these farangs can be worse of than homeless people back in farangenstein, they need all the help they can get!!

Maybe some of them were just like some of the knockers here once, full of knowing and self assured ??

"Not all Thai ladies are bad" yeah we know that doh! Like it doesn't take half a fool to work out not all muslims are bad either..Situations/subject matters different...when you've poored your life into another country like Thailand and the women strips you of everything, those guys need help! And for someone to be automatically condensing all subject matter into such a small minded view ( like they are going to gain anew chat buddy out of it) is quite a narrow minded view point..Realistically you are the ones thinking like that, no one else...These people are dealing with a financial destitute problem, dumby!!

Keep up the good work Op!

  5. His local pub will miss him.

Probably not as much as his son will. But never mind, you got your cheap shot in.

His son is probably better of now than being brought up by an a father who has no control over alcohol.

One of the most insensitive useless comments i've ever heard, may something like this never happen to you or any of your family..The more productive comments center around the possibility of fake alcohol, namely "methanol" ( as was said by some of the "wiser" contributors here) ..As was said a cheap shot, you can be rest assured that although he died of excessive consumption, it would be hard for anyone to stoop to the lower vibrational levels of your thinking..and realistically i would feel sorry for any child that had a father with a mind like yours,

  6. I think theres many factors involved in these poor farangs ending up like this , like the ones mentioned , being ripped off , having alcohol or drug abuse issues, or simply not wanting to go back to their previous lives, which many fortunate fellows who are financially stable are able to do with ease, but what happens to the few who don't want to go back and arent financially stable?? The ones who can are fortunate and should count themselves lucky( even if they have planned and worked) it's a blessing to be able too, some come from circumstances that hasn't allowed them these oppurtunities, personally i have fallen in love with love with Thailand and was involved with a thai girl who " no surprise tunred out to be a shallow user. But the experiences and even the times i speant with her have left a lasting desire to want to reside permantely in Thailand, its always on my mind , even though im back in my own country now working saving money etc, i totally get why these blokes end up like this , i even vision myself living in a hut fishing like a thai, i have travelled the world many times and i'm yet to find anything that comes close to Thailand , knowing this and considering the many factors that can effect peoples lives, i get it totally!!

  7. Incredible how any story with just the word Muslim in it brings out the hatred in so many.

    Tragic.

I can think of many reasons why it's not only the word that brings out the emotions , as many have indicated its the "special treatment" name any other region in which its followers pushes for this "special treatment" let alone if you went to an Islamic country and started trying to push. Your western ways and change their laws. It is only one religion of this day and age that does this. It's not racism or religious profiling it's facts.

  8. The exact thing happened to me last April at Ekkamai , my mate lit up a smoke (tobacco) and as I was saying to him "no don't" , some police spotted him and thought it would be a good reason to call us over and search us, they went through absolutely everything , funnily enough they let my Romanian friend go and seemed to think because I was an Aussie I'd be the better target... I'd been in a bar in Ko Chang the night before where some guys were blowing some fat joints.. They made me do a piss test and nothing showed up luckily!!( but they seemed to be confident I was a stoner) 1 out of the 3 cops was very persistent and aggressive , seemed like he wanted a bust and made me feel very unsettled!! In the end they let me go, that was April last year , left me with a very bad feeling, I went and got drunk... But what I want to say is that part if not all of the reason I love Thailand and go to Thailand is the nature of the people and police like this are so against the grain and a very poor representation of Thai people. Obviously it's money making and an abuse of power and an abuse of law with the excuse of justice being served. But things like this are so much more costly to the Thai economy and tourism than a particular officer at any particular time extorting and making baht, it's stupid, but only stupid if their superiors allow it to happen.

  9. First thing i would of expected to see from someone dealing is 1. Deals made up 2. Some scales 3. A witness that saw him making deals( realistically they would've put an undercover detective in that position) On top of all that Thai police do what most police do around the world which is..Build up a case for court to achive highest prosecution, Thailands no different, only the penalties are much harsher..Why is it hard to believe he would get 700euroes from the dutch government who are known for looking after its citizens in regards to social security?? The guy is disabled DOH!! And liars ?? Who? Do i even need to ask LOL..

  10. I read in the BP that the cigarettes are LM brand. Rather unlikely, yet not impossible, to be smoked by poor people.

Well that brand doesn't exist in the UK. So unlikely to have been bought by British tourist.
actually that's exactly what they and a lot of other tourist smoke as it's closer to generic smokes in the "UK"

  11. Wow this guy is heavy duty , half a gram of meth ( half the pros in bkk are on it) the bb and the hand gun could almost be purchased entirelly on sukumvit , the ice epidemic is global , half a gram doesn't make someone a dealer and I dare say the smug look in his face is one of being setup or his waiting to pay the police off , all you so called do-gooder experts on Thailand and it's people should get out more and stick your head out the window sometime , everyone has there preference in life and the way some of you are talking maybe he needed to protect himself from malevolent farangs !!

  12. What is a middle aged guy doing with a young teenager?

Oh come on, this is Pattaya for god sake?!huh.png

Just go out and walk along Beach Road at night time and you will see much bigger age differences than that

Why does everyone keep talking about beachroad ?? Lol Pattaya is one big bar for godsake , have a another look at it , in fact stand on beach road and look west for as far as the eye can see there is nothing but bars , occasioanlly broken by mrkets and the odd shop and hotel ..People keep talking about the age difference ..Walking down some sois at night one could think they were in a retirement village , the only difference is all these retired folk are with lovely young girls from the ages of 18 up ..as some have said its a double egde sword , its not the old wise man taking adnatage of the young innocent girl lol ..Mostly what i see its the other ay around ...and when the young girl tells ll her friends that Tim of Bob or Me is an angry jealous man sometimes , well hey theres probably a dam good reason for those reactions ..UM including the fact that while you were back in your home country shes sleeping around earning some extra dosh on the side ...In saying that i certainly wouldnt like to think that if my Thai girlfriend got murdered it woud automatically be pinned on me ( you know the angry jealous guy , thats what all her friends are told right ?? ) so hey lets give Tim a break until we find out the facts first shall we ? Because it couldve been one of three or four jealous boyfriends in my experience of some working girls , working also doesnt always mean in a bar does it chaps ??

  13. i'm planning to drive in Burma in the is next year or so. So I watched the show to get some idea o=f what it might be like. I certainly didn't realise that the VERY FIRST UK people to be allowed to drive through Burma were going to take such a flippant attitude to the country and i wonder what damage they've done for future visitors.

I expect a lot of government officials will get to watch this show to see how their respective countries are portrayed by the BBC - this isn't going to help future visitors to the country one bit.

The only damage being done is by people like you who are drilling it into( Thais , Burmese) peoples heads that they have been insulted , other than forums like this and quotes like yours they'de remain completely oblivious to any "if" any insults , but hey lets do a good job of making them think that they've been insulted shall we ?..

  14. Thanks guys all great info there , im in the process now of going through our bags and making sure there isnt anythng that will make the alarm bells ring , she suffers car/motion sickness and relies on some drug from 7/11 i hope that will be ok ..But im not risking food thanks David ,or anything else that may alarm them ..Great advice here , im thinking i should go through Oz immigration from what i've just read from Wazzi , but regardless she won't be leaving my side ..I know shes going to feel the cold , she says she's looking forward to that , but it will be interesting to see how she goes ..Im thinking she can help keep me warm anyway ;) 2 months in Thai and im dreading going back to Oz and the cold , atleast i will have her with me this time .Thanks Fdog , its making this trip home seem so much brighter this time ..I will keep you all in the loop , cheers ;)

  15. Want to avoid the "is she a prostitute" line of questioning from Customs?

Line up with her - as an Australian citizen, you can use any lane you like with the exception of the "Diplomatic/ APEC Card Holder/ Air Crew lane (unless of course you also befit one of those categories)

You'll still be waiting the same amount of time either way, and it might make your gf feel a bit more comfortable...

As for the visa entitlements; sounds like visa is valid for a year with a max of 3 month stays at a time

Yes i would like to avoid that and any other questioning tht may make her feel uncomfortable , i keep thinking of that tv show "border security" Ok well i will be lining up with her , good idea ..Still seems kind of vague in regards to visa , alot of work goes into obtaining it and you get no evidence of obtaining it , so we face some dooshbag at au customs , having to explain ourselves ? Surelly they must connect some dots better than that ..

  16. Hi there again guys , well im happy to announce that the application for the visa for my girlfriend was successful , we will be flying into sydney on the 20th of april ..She was granted a multiple entry visa .Visitor Class FA , Visitor sub class 600 , not exactly sure what all that means ..Its valid for 12 months until April next year to be exact ..How many entries could she make in that period ? Its not very clear , simply a brief letter , no stamps on passport etc ..I assume this is somehow recorded on a data base with the australian government etc ? Im hoping she won't have to do a heap of explaining once she goes through customs , as no doubt i will be going through a different gate than her ..What safe guards shoud i have in place , should she have a certain amount of money on her , should she know what she will be doing and seeing , my address etc etc ? It seems weird having to think like thi considerin the vast amounts of information i have already provided to obtain her visa in the first place ..Anyway thanks for all your previous help and advice , much appreciated !!

  17. Have also a look at this post (clickable link) I wrote earlier ... it's a step-by-step process of how my gf applied for her Australian Tourist Visa.

It was her second Visa ... but you might find some of the information or links usefull.

    Good Luck

    .

This is the best link to complete your application, I followed it and there was never an issue probably supplied too much info to them. You can actually go into VFS and have a chat with them thats what i plan on doing when im over there in april.

The thai gf has just gone back home after 2 weeks here, she had a great time.

with smart phones you can use apps like "Line" "whatsapp" "Viber" "Tango(video calls)" for txt msgs and some for phone calls which are all free. The great thing about these apps is it keeps ur msgs history and u can print it out. with optus if ur on contract u can purchase an extra package for intl calls.

you dont need an agent for the tourist visa very simple, i would get a letter from her university showing that she is registered there and also the semesters etc. as most other members have said the most important thing is to show she has a reason to return. my gf paid about 200 baht to a travel agent basically a booking fee to show her ticket even though i told her not to and it wasnt required. there is a thai website where all the girls talk about these very same issues.

one thing i did do was have my gf fly thai airways as it was her first time out of her country and to make it as easy as possible for her without worrying about connecting flights.

    all the best

Thanks Biggles , yes i plan on flying her with Thai airways too , we use wattsapp , but i had trouble emailing the conversation and thus couldnt print it out ..still trying to work out whats going on there ..another app my girl got me onto is called line and we have made calls using this over the last week and its very clear clearer than a phone almost .Personally i don't like connections from Thai , i would rather pay a few more dollars and do non stop ..Its been hectic over the last week or so as i have also moved house , but already to go pretty much now ..i leave on the 27th of Feb , i can't wait to get back to Thai ;) cheers !!

  18. I warmly suggest that anyone who relies on electronic communication between their home country and Thailand is for a couple of emails sent each week makes proving the relationship as being bona-fide as a far better option then phone records.

The simple reason is that they provide a convenient record of the communication which can be included in a Visa application.

I'm not 'old school' in my thinking ... just that they are a great and inclusive record.

As for communication ... I use a phone card.

400 mins, yep almost 7 hours of talk time for just $10 Aussie Dollars.

That's how we do it ... your experiences may vary.

    .

Thats great value David, hows the connection quality? like is there much lag before speaking and answering? I use optus pre paid on their international zone a they call it which is only 6cents a minute and its like talking to someone locally. Whats the name of the phone card you use? may get my wife onto that.

Kris ,6 cents a minute is sounding pretty good to me too .. i do talk to mine quite often and sometimes the duration last longer than i would hope due to various circumstances .I have used those phone cards before and some are good some arent ..Another good thing thats come out of everyones input is that i have discovered that im able to go onto optus's website whom im on contract with for my mobile and dig up phone bills with my girl from june last year , which is a big plus ! ..I have them printed out now ..and as FDOG has suggested , i have decided to put everything into a folder which makes it easier organising for myself aswell , if not for immigrations sake ..I feel alot more confident at getting her over here now and i'm really looking forward to showing her around , of course im not going to live with out the possibilty of it not working as there is always that chance , but yeah lots of great info here ..and discovering i have emails and phone records that go back to June last year , plus details of transactions from my account to hers has to be a big + i would think .

  19. Heres a not bad idea, get a sim card from a company called Lebara. They are readily available nearly anywhere these days. Its a pre paid sim. They charge about 1cent a min and not much connection maybe 20cents to Thailand. What makes them handy is your account can be viewed on their website. So all the calls to her show the number you rang, the time you rang, how long plus all sms to her number. Print it off then send that to vfs to show contacting her.

Wow thats great ,its been costing me hundreds to call her thumbsup.gif
