  1. Is there anywhere in Pattaya another Chevrolet service garage than the one on Sukumvit Road  You need to book a car for  normal service (booking time up to 2 month) and repair service (3 weeks)and slow.Service is extremely poor  if you are lucky to get your car in the garage. Anybody with similar experiences?

  2. I am in need of a weed killer here in Thailand, I used to buy Roundup from Homepro, which was very effective! But at Hompro it is not available anymore! Anybody knows where to buy Roundup?

  3. It happens in many under-developed countries where police need to supplement their income.

Would you rather pay a 'spot fine' or go to the hassle of a trip to the police station to pay a much larger fine?

Some posters need to get off their collective high-horses. We who pay the spot-fines exacerbate the problem but the solution may be found in paying police a decent wage. I say 'may' bacause corruption is so endemic in Thai society that increased salaries may not fix the problem.

Best to always keep a few 100 baht notes in front of the car.:jap:

    Agree 100%

  4. :)

I travelled with Qatar Airways in August 2009 from Bangkok to Johannesburg. I was told by Qatar Airways Johannesburg office, that sport equipment up to 15 kg can be transported free of charge.

At the Bangkok airport, during check-in, I was told that there is no allowance for free sport equipment ( in my case- Golf Clubs) and I was forced to pay after some discussions Baht 7,850.- for the golf clubs.

Anybody has a similar experience with this airline, which claims to be an excellent airline ?

  5. Booze and bikes - a recipe for instant death. The helmet had nothing to do with it. Some responsibility should be taken by the so-called 'mates' who saw what he had drunk and allowed him ride ride. I hope they live with their irresponsible behaviour for the rest of their lives. :)

Now that is an excellent comment. Any responsible person /friend should have stopped him. Even the bar owner could have done this.

This young man not only got killed, he could have caused an accident involving innocent bystanders. His friends should be ashamed.

  6. A word of warning here.

I was stung by two of these wasps last week although they might have looked a little different. They were huge and stung me on my neck and head.

They seemed to go only for the head as i had a hat on and they hit it 7 times before being successful in getting me.

IT really hurt like hel_l for 24 hours and i couldn't even sleep as i couldn't really put my head down on a pillow or anything.

AFter doing some research, i found that these guys can and have even killed people.

AFter experiencing their sting, i wouldn't go near that nest. I'd call someone in, or at the very least, wear some protective clothing or head mask.

    good luck.

You know , that was the only real advise. Do not listen to the "DO IT YOURSELF" guys. Get a professional in , that is the only answer. I am leaving on a Golf course with plenty of wasps around. It is very dangerous to do it yourself or let an amateur handle it!

  7. Some time ago there was a thread here about changes in the excise tax for alcoholic beverages, including beer. As I remember it, the old tax was based on the volume of the beverage, the new tax on the volume of alcohol content. I don’t know if the new tax rule has already been implemented, but obviously a lower alcohol content will reduce the brewer’s expenses for excise tax.

    Maestro

    Maestro,

    you are correct!

  8. I'll ring the brewmaster up @ Khon Kean Boonrawd Brewery to find out.. :D

Who happens to be MY FATHER!! :bah::D

It is correct, Singha has reduced the alcohol content from 6% to 5% . It modified the beer to reduce hangovers. If anyone requires hangovers and wanting to get drunk cheap, drink your beer with a straw, can save some money! Comments like "tastes like horseshit" do not require any attention, the language speaks for itself. It is liked by a lot of people , guess how "Chang" is brewed? Any ideas?

    I have no idea.. :D

    Please enlighten us.. :D

    :o

Stay that way, it is better you don't know. Keep a bottle of Chang for 3 month and then try to drink it. Cheers and good luck!

  10. Hi can anybody tell me if there are any golf courses in the Khon Kaen area (say a 60k radius)

I am staying in Chonabot for a week in June and would like to get in a game if there are any around.

    Tel no's/directions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Yes. There are 2 courses, one in Khon Kaen(Army 9 holes) near the airport and a 18 hole course at Ubolratdam, 56 KM from Khon Kaen towards Udon Thani.

    Thanks for that, much appreciated.

Do you know if any bars run golf societys from KK?

can you explain the term bars running golf courses?

there are heaps of bars in KK and none of them run golf courses.

you could try khonkaen.com for the social aspects of golfing there

My post did in fact ask do any bars run golf societys not golf courses, i.e. weekly golf matches.

    Thanks for the info anyway

Maybe I can help you. There is a bar "ERICS BAR" near the Sofitel ( 100 yards away, same street) they have a golfing section. You can find Erics Bar in the Khon Kaen Forum.

    Best of luck

  11. Hi there,

does anyone know a shop where they sell clubs, analyse you swing (computer) and can give you good advise what club suits your swing, what type of shaft to use? Was a 9 handicap, now at 67, the swing is gone, distance are getting shorter and shorter and play more like a 24 handicap now!

    Hi Schaurte

Don't know of any shops that have this facility in Pattaya but imagine the big stores in BKK might.

As you are from Rayong (according to your Avatar) why not seek the advise of a Pro in Pattaya.

I see from this thread http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=120527

that BM Ruds is a PGA pro and is advertising his services.

    Hi Racefan,

thanks, will try that this weekend.

  12. Do not believe you have a marriage option at 400k. That ended last year. Your options are marriage at 40k monthly family income or retirement (if over 50) at 65k monthly income/800k bank deposit or combination. If you have child and over 50 there is another option.

If you can qualify believe immigration would be able to change your status without a new visa/exit but you should definitely talk with them well in advance so that you have time to make your plans.

    Thanks for that information

  15. Are you on a one year extension of stay for employment or just on a 90 day entry (make 90 day border runs)? And are you planning to extend your stay on the basis of 40k monthly family income or on the basis of retirement or just looking for a multi entry non immigrant O visa? If just looking for the multi entry visa Singapore is the best place to obtain and a bank account with 400k or more should, along with marriage certificate and fees should be enough to obtain one.

Thanks for the advice.I am on a one year extension and one year work permit. I am not looking for a multiple entry visa, only the marriage visa with the required 400K in my bank account. Is there a need or a must to leave the country or can I apply locally?

  16. :o:D We played golf at the Emerald Golf Club in Ban Chang two weeks ago and we were asked to sign the guest book. We paged through the guest book and found on one page the following message: I am Mr. M..... , I am 4 years old and I like to F....

It is nice that most of the foreigners can afford to play golf here in Thailand, but there are obviously very low class people on the golf course too, they should stay in bars and do their comments there instead on the golf course in a visitors book. Feel sorry for this guy, he must have damaged his brains-if any?- badly!

  17. As a father of a seventeen year old boy, taller and bigger than I am as well as faster, in todays world , it is quite a problem for parents to control their children at that age . It is worse in Europe and most probably also in the USA.

So to control internet porn is as far as I think as a parent a very good idea . I am not able to stop my son from watching internet porn in a shop, school or anywhere else except home.

Critics complain about "Freedom and Democracy" , well, they should go where they find these ideals, Europe? USA? Where? I do not agree with a lot of decisions, the PM forced onto the Thais, but indicencies like child abuse, pornography must be avoided even if it means to reduce the "freedom and democracy" for some. :o
