  3. You will receive lots of PM's from 'financial advisors' now, hehe.

Seriously, following the old endowment shambles in the UK, the first thing any financial advisor worth his salt should tell you is to keep your life insurance and savings separate. ie you have a term life assurance, which only provides a return in the event of death - bit like car insurance, you don't get a rebate if you don't claim. Then what you would have put in the savings element goes into a separate savings plan. More effeicient (potentially more tax efficient), more transparent, less hidden charges.

However the schemes that give you a lump sum at the end if you don't claim, a la endowment, pay huge comissions which come from huge charges on your savings, so expect every 'financial advisor' in this country to recommend this option over what I outlined above.

Also agree with above poster - don't tell your wife about the policy thumbsup.gif

    No worries. Don't have a wife :P

    Thanks for the replies anyway

  4. If you want to purchase a house in Thailand, there are 3 main ways:

1 - Illegal way: Create a company with thai nominees. Every 2-3 years there are new enforcement of the law, in mid/long term you are sure to loose the land and money.

    2 - Legal ways:

    * Lease 30 years: Everybody has to know that you have NO garantee that the lease will be renewed after 30 years. After 30 years you may loose your good.

    * Buy the land at the name of you thai wife, but if she is a prostitute, she will may ask 50% of the value of the house and leave.

For me there are few solutions:

    - If you are single or living with a prostitute ( a girl who asks x bahts per week or per month): RENT !!!

    - If you are married with a normal thai girl, after 4-5 years together, you may think about buying a house at the name of your thai wife.

PS: In Pattaya I saw many new houses sold for the "farang" market and overpriced ! For instance 10 million bahts for a nice villa with a private swimming pool: when the farang owner want to resell, it's really hard to sell higher than 5 millions bahts (don't believe the real estate agencies). But what will happen with this new law inforcement... with more houses to sell ? This kind of villa will be sold at 3-4 millions bahts ???

What is the third main way?

I remember to have heard and saw on some official documents issued by my embassy that you can actually buy and own 1 rai of land legally in your name.

But like everything it is at a big price of course.

When you invest 40 miln baht in Thailand, you can actually buy land till 1 rai maximum.

Downside is that the money also needs to stay on the bank for 10 years.

So it means that 10 years you can't touch that money.

Quite pricy and not a lot of us that can achieve that, except for mega-multi-nationals.

Heads up only,39,999,999 baht to go and I have my own rai whistling.gif

  5. I thought I saw some in Chinatown here in BKK.

If you want to know how to call them just use google translate. On the second box ( the translated one ) you can actually listen how it is called.

    But I should try Chinatown.

    Good luck

  6. Hi all,

I have a Thai friend ( working collegue ) who is gay and looking for a nice and adorable foreign boyfriend.

He has a nice job working as Purchasing officer.

If anyone should be intrested in knowing him, please feel free to pm me and I'll be able to give the contact information to him or his contact information to you.

    He speaks English fluently

  7. Try the Kasikorn at Central Bang Na. The only thing their request is a phone number, adress and e-mail from a Thai person who you know.

It worked for me some years ago and still now some friends who are coming to here and want to open a bank account succeed everytime.

    Good luck on it

  8. Snake farm.

    Bridge over the River Kwai

    Floating market

How about that macabre hospital museum with a sliced human head and the mummified body of an executed racist - forget where that is.

And the Ancient City . . forget what it's proper name is now . . .

"And the Ancient City . . forget what it's proper name is now . . ."

I take it you are talking about, Muang Boran as it is known in Thai, Ancient City is the farang name.

Combine it with a trip to the crocodile farm which is right next to it over at samut Prakarn.

Would have said the same. Crocodile farm and ancient city

  11. 2 years ago I flew with FINNAIR and I was well pleased with the service in the air as on the ground.

The people on the ground are very helpfull and friendly. The transfer time was about 1 hour and goes smoothly. On my flight I didn't had any delay and the plain landed in BKK 30 minutes before the scheduled time.

So in my opinion if you could go with FINNAIR and the service is still the same I should say "Go for it"

  12. When I came here on holidays before, I just did walk in. Just check some hotels. Most of the hotels have still vacancies when doing a "walk in"

I was used to go to one at Ratchada. 650 baht/night breakfast included. Easy acces to MRT.
