  1. I agree with u but me and my other expat friends did not have any problem for the past 14 yrs in Bangkok. The risk is higher living in the cheap neighbourhood.

That's like saying only very expensive cars are good cars. Many richer people in Bangkok and other cities have very strange kids who tend to be very aggressive.

And the "wannabe high so community" isn't always well behaved as we all know.

Out of curiosity, where is that infamous street located? Were these new arrivals fellow expats or Thais? It sounds like a pretty rough neighborhood, not like anything I've ever encountered myself in Thailand.

When I first came to Bangkok about 14 years ago, my local business partner advices that I should not look for a cheap apartment to lived in. Cheap apartment have all kinds of weird people living there and very high chances you will face problems with these people. Anything above 15,000 baht per month is OK.

  3. This has got nothing to do with Tony Fernandez for flying this route without proper permit. the CEO in Indonesia is responsible. Know your fact before making blind comment. Majority share holder is Indonesian who run the airlines operation. If the airline do not have the permit to fly, then the control tower should not allow the airline to take off at all. So the main fault is on control tower.

  5. For me, I have an understanding with my wife if ever any of her family members visiting our home, they have to follow our rules with do and don't except her mother and dad would they really know what to do when they are in our home. Brothers, cousins, brother's friends, other relatives must follow our house rules. We told them in this home we have people from different culture, meaning Thai Culture and my culture have different approach and etiquette at home.

Me and my wife have travelled extensively to various countries and she always educate them about other culture and how to behave well when eating outside or at someone else's home. The respond was good. They are well behave after educating them. If anything that I dislike, I will immediately tell my wife to explain to them again the dos and don't.

To me i m happy with my Thai family. They slowly but surely learning well.

PS: Brother did clean out my fridge during the first time he visited us but now they bought their own plus some of my favorite drinks and food each time they visited us.

  6. At least there is no more political protest, no violence, consumer confidence higher than ever and business getting better which Abihisit and Ying Luck can't achieve.

Exactly. For that, and the other achievements, Prayuth certainly deserves the "Man of the Year" award - heck, regardless how you feel about him, you'd have to agree that Prayuth has had the most and the most significant impact on Thailand in 2014.

You do realize that not all the polls you read are 100% genuine?.
Who care about the polls? Myself, family members, friends lives getting better after he took over. During protest, it was really tough in many ways, not enough income, lost of jobs etc. Now is free and easy.

You are aware that yourself, family members and friends are hardly representative for 60 million Thais, are you?!

Are you aware that your negative thought does not represent 60 mil Thai as well? As far as I m concern, me and the people that i knew is happy and content. That is good enough.

  7. jeffybkk knows it all cause his wife told him,the farmers are happy...his wife told himwe are all freeeee...his wife told himanyone starting to see a pattern here?when you've got actual thai male friends in issarn, not your wifes family, cousins, uncles, aunts, dogs, ones with good businesses who dont like being told "dont worry be happy"get back to me.

Why u so QUANTEEN!! U think I only have my wife as friend, I have been living here past 8 years, I also have many real male and frmale friends from all over Thailand with various occupations from business people to farmer's son and daughter.. They are all so nice and accommodating. Not as what many Thai Basher TV members thought otherwise. I do get in touch with them quite frequently as Thailand have a lot of national holidays to catch up with them. Not everyone negative thought same as you.

One. I doubt those outside of Bangkok have consumer confidence. Regardless of the faults of the rice pleadge, farmers are not happy with rice prices today, and they will pay for big projects in the future.

Two, Consumer confidence is not an excuse for quashing freedoms and deposing an elected government.

Your silver lining is nothing less than frivolous

You are WRONG!! I travel a lot to North Eastern of Thailand where my wife family home is. They are indeed very happy with the situation now. Although her parent is not farmer but they knew a lot Of farmers there and they are happy with the money they got from the current govt. Quashing freedom?? Bullshit, we all have full freedom now unless you are a criminal or some corrupted politicians then u felt your freedom have been quashed. Thailand is not really for an elected government until they are all educated that accepting money to vote for someone is wrong. Suit yourself, not happy just leave

    OMG

Here comes the "education" before allowed to vote BS excuse again. facepalm.gif

Perfect example of how messed up Thailand is when even supposedly the educated understand nothing about equality and freedoms. It begins with an equal voice and a vote and a lot of hard work and determination to progress .... not a panic and coup every few years like petulant children.

As for the Money thing, dont even get me on the Generals, Police Chief millionaires on all sides, absolutely disgusting abuse of position. Corruption filters from the very pinnacle all the way down....you wont see other than those fallen from grace brought to account and in a few years itll be rinse and repeat again, coups are all Thailand know how to do.

May as well use that as an election system its about as regular anyway. rolleyes.gif

Look before you leap. Early election in the name of democracy will definitely destroy the country further. Went back to North Eastern, before any election happen previously every single registered voters especially the farmers received between 500 - 3000 baht each to buy their vote. Majority says, as long as they got money they willing to vote for anyone. This is the fact and my wife relatives told me that. It's been happening for quite awhile and it's nothing secret. However my wife not accepting the offer by not going back to vote bcos of the vote buying. In the village, if you don't accept the offer, people will know and is like you been marked.

Marriages in India are filled with ritual and celebration that continue for several days. Generally anywhere between 100 to 10,000 people attend. Often, many of the attendees are unknown to the bride and groom themselves.

Wedding traditions vary across religion, caste, ethnicity, language, region, etc. Traditional Indian weddings are generally structured into pre-wedding ceremonies, wedding day ceremonies (consisting of the Baraat, the Varmala and the Satphere), and the Vidaai. When the marriage has been agreed upon, the father of the bridegroom visits the father of the bride. The day before the expected arrival of the marriage procession,[4] lavish preparations are done by the family to receive the groom (shaadi ki tayaari) in beautiful and decorated venues, typically farmhouses or hotel halls, where a sacrificial fireplace called marhwa is built. Brides decorate themselves with gold and diamond jewellery, apply [mehndi] to colour hands and feet, and undergo various bridal rituals, including wearing bridal lehenga or saree. Bridegrooms typically wear a [sherwani] dress or a designer suit. To complete the marriage, the bride and groom walk in a circle (phera) around the sacrificial fire."

because of this,i dont think any indian will ever go get married in Thailand

Having said that, I have a few friends who is wedding planner from india told me that Thailand is their preferred destination for wedding in Phuket, Hua Hin & Rayong. You really don't know about this but just blindly comment that indian will not come to Thailand for wedding. Lol....

  14. Age catching up, sometime I misplaced or left my sling bag with my wallet in cinema and roadside small thai restaurant which I was not regular there. After arrived home about several hours later discover that I have misplaced my bag. In one occasion Called cinema they said someone found it on the cinema seat. Went there the next day to collect it and everything is intact including @ 15,000 baht and some other valuable item. Same goes for the small restaurant, got back what I left there too. Some of you guys on TV just wanna bash that all... Sigh!

  15. There actually a lot more quality tourist coming to Thailand, I was checking with several hotels to book venues with conference or meeting facilities, to my surprise most of these hotels already have booking until June 2015 with incentives, corporate meeting groups from various countries and they already have 80% occupancy from group bookings. I was calling on behalf of a Singapore based IT company with request for 400 - 500 pax group for several tentative dates but unable to get any rooms until June 2015.

So these are the quality corporate group to Thailand for business meetings staying up to 5 days for each group which most of you guys who make comments about tourist may or may not aware of these quality tourist. So Thailand don't need those bad tourist who give a lot of problems. So quality tourist is coming more and more NOT declining.

Jeffrey, you should be sitting on the Panel with TAT. If i were you would lay off the drink for a few days get your head clear mate the BS has clearly took hold of your Brain. giggle.gifgiggle.gif

Not interested in TAT, just wanna do business, that's it.

Then learn how to do business properly.

You can't handle 400-500 people, flights, transport, event, dinners, etc.

You can't even talk to the right people at a hotel.

Hire a professional agency and they will get the exact dates you want, at a rate better than you can get and handle all the details.

...you aren't fooling no one kid.

    Lol, look whose talking

How many hotels/venues did you contact?

Did you contact by phone or in person or face-to-face?

I've done this too. Depending on reception who pretends to understand but can't. Plus the lazy reception or events who provide this answer because they think they are overworked. Shame.

I suspects your stats are skewed.

This is just one of the email example received. I have several similar emails

Given that you are only inquiring, your dates are not set in stone.

They gave you availability 1 week either side of your preferred dates.

    What's the problem?

That's a hotel with 400-500 room available still in the "high season". Book it.

You realize your mail backfired right?

Not backfire, ask to change dates. But this is only one of those hotel. They are nice ppl with quality service, I work with them many time previously before the mass protest.

    Are you sure?

Many of the so-called better hotels are booked out to package groups of Russians and Chinese at bucket-shop prices, not high-flying quality tourists.

I m 1000% sure bcos I m in this kind of business and i speaking directly to the director of sales. Those Russian and chinese i m not sure bcos I don't deal to them.

Well, I did called 6 hotels but I do agree does not represent the whole hotel industry. Having said that, the company i called on behalf is urgently needed the ballroom for a group of corporate from various countries wanted to confirm but was decline bcos they were book and paid. I don't talk to reception cod that is not the right people u speak too. I spoke to the director of sales with serious business to business talk not just asking receptionist if there is any room available.

Yep, hence the reason for Hiton 50% off sale because they all booked out

Have u called them?? But I know I did. All ballroom is fully book for groups. They allocated certain room for 50% discount which is normal even on high season any where in the world.
