https://www.att.com/legal/terms.mobileInsurance.html I had this insurance in 2020 when my iPhone X was stolen in Colombia in March of that year. When I returned to the US later that month I filed a claim and they replaced it my mail the next day. I think my deductible was $150 due to a discount for not filing a claim since August 2018.

My experience with my American insurer has much better than that. I'm looking at spending about 50,000 baht on my next phone, so insurance is a must.

I don't see any old topics on this that are definitive. I would like mobile phone insurance that covers water damage, theft, loss and physical damage. Basically delux insurance. Does anyone know who sells this? My search results have been a bit confusing.

The thing about cheap phones is that they don't last long. The software will get out of date, then the latest versions of apps (like Bolt, etc.) won't work anymore. That and they are frustrating because the keyboard is unresponsive or the battery life sucks. There are basic phones though and they aren't too expensive. Just don't buy a cheap <deleted>ty chinese phone thinking it'll be a good backup because you'll want to throw it against the wall every time you use it. You want a phone that will be steady with software updates. Apple is good about that, in Android that means a Google phone, like Google Pixel. Second to that is a Samsung phone. If you bump your budget up a little bit you can get an iPhone SE 2020 or a Google Pixel 4 for about 7,000-8,000 baht. Also buy a new phone, not a second hand phone. A second hand phone has probably been worked on by some <deleted> and something won't work right. Then again, you can just go to 7-11, ask them which phones cost 4,000 baht and get that one. Maybe you'll be happy with it.

Thai bank fees?
BudRight replied to noodleslayer's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
You misunderstand me. I mean that checking accounts in the United States and savings accounts in Thailand allow an unlimited number of transactions. Savings accounts in the United States however, have a limited number of transactions. So the OP should not confuse savings accounts in Thailand with savings accounts in the US. Instead, savings accounts in Thailand function more like checking accounts in the United States because both have an unlimited number of transactions. I hope that was clear this time. -
It's a strange treaty then, because normally, treaty countries have a treaty to arrange for some mutual benefit. But I suppose if the treaty is almost impossible to use in Thailand and in return, nothing was offered to Thailand then it would be a fair trade. Regarding foreign land ownership in the United States, Americans don't seem to realize that their system is very unusual among countries or that it could be a potential cause of soaring land prices. It has simply never entered in the conversation.

It's a treaty, so presumably Thais got some sort of reciprocal benefit in the United States. Do you know what it is, and is it also basically impossible to use?

Thai bank fees?

Well, good for you. I've never seen a cheque in Thailand. And fewer people in the US use them each year. Basically just grannies in the supermarket holding up the line, and foolish people who pay their bills by mail and risk their check getting lost. -

Cheques will be useless unless he owns a business and he doesn't, he's on an ED visa. Overdraft is bad thing in US checking accounts, and it took an act of congress to allow people to opt out, which most people do now. So actually most checking account in the US don't have overdraft anymore if you filled out the forms correctly. Most importantly, American checking accounts allow an (almost?) unlimited number of deposits, withdrawals and transactions in a given month whereas savings accounts are restricted to some number. Which is the same as a Thai savings account. Which is what matters here for the OP. -

A Thai savings account is basically like an American checking account except it has that book. There's something called a current account but you won't need that unless you own a business or something. -

Absolutely do not lose your bank book or it you will have to file a police report, then bring that report to the branch where you opened the account in order to get another one. And you will need the book to get a new debit card. Bangkok Bank is the best of the those three banks because it is the largest. -

I just opened it fine and checked my certificate on my iPhone X. I mention the phone in case it is a problem with a specific version of the app. -

Mine said I am Thai. I am not. It did fix itself eventually though. -
Maybe the OP doesn't want to rent an apartment for a year on a short stay visa, but instead get a bank account, then a retirement visa, then an apartment. Or maybe the OP wants to...travel around and see the country instead of staying in one place. That isn't a "scam" it's just a different way to retire.

Yes. But some people have been using it a long time and there is the force of habit.
