Rain
in Chiang Mai
You're just showing off now, aren't you - just because you got more rain than we did!! It barely lasted 30 minutes in BWT, but very welcome nevertheless.

Rain
in Chiang Mai
Wind has picked up now, and the trees in BWT are bending to silly angles, so we can expect a power cut any time now. Lightning strike somewhere nearby....that was LOUD!

5 minutes if gentle rain so far in BWT. That's the first in weeks.....keep it coming! Getting heavier now, so happy happy plants tonight, though it will probably cost us another power outage!!

Here is the newest member of the family (she's been with us for just over 24 hours). Her name is Ellie, and she's a 7 week old Heinz.

Woman selling puppies at the market tonight...300 baht a pop...she couldn't care for them and just wanted to home them. Mrs R's eyes lit up when she saw them, then welled up when I said no (OK, bring on the flame-fest!). Wish I'd just taken the plunge and got one now. I miss having a dog!

Thanks, Shaggy. It was great to meet you. You'll need longer next time, so we can do Wat Rong Khun (I know you get upset if I say White Temple....oops), and some of the other goodies I'm planning...

Thaispeak....
"launched a command centre set up to crackdown on illegal fishing....." created a few new jobs for the boys: don't expect anything more.
"As of now the EU has not yet explained to Thailand details about the measure that could get us out of the 'yellow card'"....... they keep using long words...
All pure BS to ensure that Thailand can can continue its despicable track record of human rights abuse.

Procedures here are never cut and dry for more than a month are they?
I read all these posts looking for an answer to a common query.
It seems you can only get a 5yr renewal if you have a visa OTHER THAN a tourist visa.
For those with TV renewals are annually (but now appears could be 2yr)
For another 1yr temp ensure you get there before current one expires.
Need same documents again medic certif and COR and copies of your passport....is it nrcrssary to copy your current plastic licence or do they retain it?
Did the colour test and driving test and multi choice question test last year. Do you have to go through all that again.?
Can you renew the licrnces a month in advance like to avoid songran holidays etc. i bet its heaving this week!
Dont want to go early morning and join the other 300 if early afternoon will suffice but i remember the classroom tests are at 1 and 4pm ......have to do again?
Went and got my 5 year licence yesterday, before the 1 year one expired (I'm on a retirement extension to a Non-Imm O visa)
Photocopying - I don't see any problem in doing a few copies....I always keep some in case they are needed for whatever.
Medical certificate....Klaimor hospital, 5 minutes and 150 baht. Easy.
CofR....500 baht again....now only free if you wait one month, but no hassle if you prepare paperwork properly.
Went to DLT...no colour test, or any test at all apart from my patience.... arrived at 13:00, given number 307...they were currently on 135!
Finally called to the desk at 16:05, and was out of the place by 16:30. Easy, but oh so boring.

"It's not as bad as when....." "You should have been here xx years ago....." "Blah, blah, blah..." BS! It really isn't any cause for petty one-upmanship, folks.
The simple fact is that the air quality index has been significantly high this year (AQI of 151-200 at least in CM) and that is still harming people's health. By carping on "In my day it were really bad....ee, couldn't see t'hand in front o' t'face" all you are doing is denying that there is still a health problem, which gives support to the polluters and to those who do zilch about clearing the mess up apart from quoting laws that no one ever enforces..
Or maybe you are happy to breathe in all that particulate matter.

Poll for expats ... have you been required to fill out the personal info form?
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

Asked by visa agent in Chiang Mai when dropping off passport for a 90 Day report. Only filled in minimal info, giving nothing more than Immigration already had.
My guess is they'll try again, but the info won't change!
