You don't convert a UK license to a Thai license.

You have to visit your local Thai driving test centre where you will have to take a test. Beware the test is rigorous and comprehensive; way more challenging than the UK driving test.

After 10 minutes you will be presented with a 2 year licence. No appointment and no agent.

No appointment needed!  Good news.  I was worried about getting a residency certificate valid for only 30 days and not being able to get into the DLT.

    MOVED to Motoring.

You will still need to be tested ! If it can actually be called a test.Locations and requirements vary.

Thank you.  I don't mind being tested or anything else they require.  I am wondering how to get an appointment or if I need an agent to do so.  It would be at the DLT in Chatuchak near Mo Chit.

  3. Has anyone recently converted their driving license to a Thai license?

I have my English driving license and I need a Thai car driving license.  I want to buy a car that I will need to get to my new job here in Bangkok.  I would probably go to the Mo Chit location to make it (closest to home).

Can I do it myself?  Do I need an appointment?  I don't mind using an agent to help.

I heard they are not letting foreigners do this?  I am not sure how I can get to my work.  Taking taxis everyday will get expensive and public transportation is not reliable in my area.

Thanks and sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum.

  4. I just got a job offer at a University and the paperwork to go to a consulate to process a Non-B.

The Uni gave me all the documents and told me to leave for Laos on Monday to go get my visa and get back as quick as possible since I will be missing the first week of the term.

I was just about to book a flight when I noticed that I might (or might not) need a police check.

Do I need a police check for a University teaching job?  I was going to go Vientiene.

I wouldn't mind getting one here in Bangkok, but they were rather insistant that I go as quicly as possible to get the visa.  If not Vientiene, then where should I go?

    Regards

  5. Am I understanding this procedure correctly?

I'll be changing teaching jobs soon.

The new job is at a university.

I plan to go back to my country over Xmas/NYE, and then return to Thailand to finish my last week of work at the old job.  (First week of Jan)

Then I will pick up my documents for the new job, cancel my WP (I'm on an extention based on a WP).

I will leave Thailand and go to Hong Kong (I plan on a holiday here anyway).

I will apply for the Non-B with the following documents prepared:

3.1 Letter of acceptance from employing institute or school in Thailand.
3.2 Letter of approval from government agencies such as the Office of the Private Education Commission, the Office of the Basic Education Commission.
3.3 Evidence of educational qualification such as diplomas or teaching certificates.
3.4 School license or business registration, list of shareholders and school profile.
        3.5 Applicant’s resume.
3.6 Police certificate verifying that applicant has no criminal record or letter issued by authorised agencies in the applicant’s country.  (I will get this when I go home for Xmas)

Wait the required time, eat some dim sum.

Then pick up and return to Thailand.

    Am I missing something?

  6. Is it possible to go directly from BKK airport to Sattahip by bus?  I'd rather not pay for a taxi.

If not, where does the bus drop you off in Pattaya and how do I get onward transport to Sattahip?  Is it a bus, van, songthaew?  Just want to know what to look for.

Thanks and sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place.

  7. No changes reported recently.

Both desks are 24/7, process takes about 20 minutes, you don't need form or photos, both are provided.

Swampy have a 200 Baht service charge on to of the (1000 Baht?) cost of the permit, I assume DMK is the same (not used it, don't know).

Bummer on the 200 Baht, but it's still cheaper and easier than going to Chaeng Wattana! Thanks a lot for the info!

  8. I know this has been discussed before, but since policy changes like the wind, I would like to know, can I currently get a Re-entry permit at BKK and DMK on the day of my flight? This month I'm flying out of BKK, then re-entering Thailand. In April I will be leaving out of DMK and needing a re-entry again. I don't need a mult-entry since these are the only two exits I need to make.

One last question. How long does this process take and how much does it cost? Just wondering how early before my flight I need to arrive. Thanks!

  9. The Govt. Schools could care less about you. I have been working in one for a few years now. The schools are incredibly unprofessional. Their regard for your value is next to nothing. I get tired of the lack of ethics and seeing children whipped with bamboo sticks. After years of being treated like I am a dancing white monkey and that they are doing me a huge favor for working for 27,000/month, I support your decision to get what you can from the system and leave. This is a bridge you can afford to burn. Teaching in a govt. school in Thailand is not a career building endeavor. Even the best schools look down at this kind of experience. Good luck. Hope you can get what you can.

Edit. I should say, I stay because I can look past these things. It is an OK situation for me. But the reality of the working conditions in some (not all govt. schools) is awful.

  10. Has anyone had any experience shipping large things within Thailand?  I'm relocating for work and I want to take a few large things with me, if possible, such as my motorbike, fridge, microwave and my extremely comfortable mattress.  Or should I try to sell the stuff first?  I really hate to part with the mattress :)

  11. I am a teacher and my school gave me a work permit and visa back on 31 March. I got a re-entry permit and left Thailand, then returned after Songkran. Now I'm back teaching at my school. Do I have to make my 90 day report from the date my visa was issued on 31 March? Or 90 days from when I re-entered Thailand after Songkran? I would like to save myself a trip down to immigration to get this info if anyone knows. Much obliged!
