You know what, they endlessly go on about 'face', yet millions in their population live in poverty with poor educational standards whilst the rich cream the lot. We can see it. Other countries can see it. Internationally Thailand has no 'face'. Hell, look at the human trafficking and slavery category they just won!
Start sorting out the problems, get back to a democratic system and learn to live by the rule of law, take care of your people's futures and maybe, just maybe, you Thailand, might just get the 'face' you so crave.
This could just as easily be said about America

Once again the Americans are telling a country what they must do. Do they never learn from their mistakes. They prop up ruthless dictators Batista, Saudi Arabia, Saddam Hussein and more, until they have passed their use by date, and what follows is chaos. The Army has delivered Thailand from the violence which the authorities were powerless or unwilling to stop and the Americans want a return to that. Go back to your own country and get your own house in order before offering unwanted advice.

After teaching here for 10 years, I am leaving. I am 74 years old and wanted to teach until I died because I love the kids and I love teaching. That said, in 10 years I have seen the standard of teaching deteriorate and realize that standards are not requires, just the façade of a standard. Immigration has become a nightmare and corruption unbearable. The money grasping Thai (95% of the population) is one of the ugliest things one can encounter but it takes a long time to penetrate this façade of "Beautiful Thailand" and "Happy Thais" Because of that I am leaving Thailand and I do not think that I will ever return.

You say that it doesn't happen. Well, it does. I was stopped and "suggested" I pay a 500 baht fine. I refused and told them to take me to court and prove their case. They let me go.

Yes, obviously suicide as the Burmese men were in jail at the time.

And these are only the ones that actually die ON the road. Well,---- what will the authorities do about it? Nothing but pious words as usual. The police just watch for the opportunity to make money, not safety.

Throwing boiling water over a flight attendant, threatening to blow up a plane... so fined and put on the next plane out. Lucky then they weren't charged with anything more serious like selling second hand dvd's...
Or picking mushrooms.

Earlier today I read in BP that he was found with a head wound and his stomach had been cut open. This may have been the reporter using his imagination though
Obviously suicide or were there Burmese involved?

I think that if Thai people were taught critical thinking skills and not taught to obey the "bigger man", Thailand and democracy would have a chance, but the indoctrination of school children to "follow the leader" will deny this country of real leaders.

Perhaps they could import a few men from Myanmar

Quickly, arrest some men from Myanmar, before the truth is discovered

What is the price for a proof of residency letter?
No official charge = free.
In Bangkok it takes 10 working days to turn round. They take 100 Baht for the return EMS postage for delivery to your home. Why is no one reporting this bribe.I thought the general was trying to stamp out corruption?
Pity it hasn't got to the Bangkok headquarters. I spent two days there after a visa and the people there were rude and officious. No bribe required though, just wait, wait and wait
Most Thais believe US takes side in Thailand's politics

Everyone keeps harping on the US wanting a democratically elected government. I am sure that Salvadore Allende would love to hear that.
