Immigration started this pissing contest by demanding "proof" of income that no embassy could possibly provide. They even challenged them to show those who had allegedly "cheated" on the requirements and offered to prosecute them. That wasn't good enough. The embassies threw us to the wolves (visa agencies) who will charge whatever obscene price that expats will pay. They split it with immigration and that's why they are tolerated. This is all a scam hatched by a sweetheart deal between agencies and immigration.

If you follow the rules you don't need an agent, never used an agent.in the 22 years I've been here and never had any real problems so don't understand why all the fuss.

The real-estate person was giving you good, helpful info.

Yes, it is pointless - especially since you will be putting that address on your TM-6 form.  But, you must do it anyway, to avoid a fine (usually 1600 Baht).  Per recent reports, Jomtien gives you 3 days to report (law says 24 hours), but I would do it on the first day they are open (including Saturday) after your return.

Hopefully, they will someday streamline their reporting systems for efficiency - so they can be easier to accommodate by visitors, and more useful for the security-purpose they were designed to serve.

You have report.eavh time.you.return from a trip outside of Thailand

    Wow!

Tourism numbers and revenues must be taking one hell of a hit to do this; it is a refutation of everything the Junta has been doing or saying for years.

There is a great deal more to this story; I am looking forward to finding it out.

None, these changes are made to promote tourism

Now its time to help those of us who have been legally here for a few years, married to Thai person. EASE OUR VISAS , relax the 90 day reporting, remove the requirement for a re-entry visa, etc..

No, it´s not possible for everyone that wants to live a decent life that can be expected of somebody retiring in a foreign country.

You do not only need money for nutrition.

Nothing is sure about that yet. We have to wait and see what the final decision from Immigration is going to be. If like many posters here believe right now. Then the scenario of the case is going to be like you present it. On the other hand. Wife and child, house and maybe a car on only 40K baht a month is not much of a life to live in my personal opinion.

    No sympathy!

The retirement sum is Ok yes you csn be happy on it unless you drink and smoke a lot.  The family sum it all depends on lifestyle and housing and your age.  Can if you are older and don't go out much but if you are young or have extragent likes then No but the amounts are minimum to live on and in that case yes you can live on them.

Thanks Ubonjoe, that's what I thought, I just need to convince my wife as someone she has spoken to at the Thai passport office in Thailand told her that she won't be able to do this & would need to either renew her passport in the UK or enter on her British passport which would mean having to get a visa as we are staying over 30 days.

They can come in on UK passport get a 30.visa exemption on arrival in Thailand and extend that for another 30 days at the immugration office where they are staying.

Are you and your partner legally married?

You may have apr0blem if not.

Long stay visas in Thailand require a marriage or a retirement (over 50 years of age)

I do not know the rules about same sex marriages in Thailand.

However I do not think Thailand allows them.

And definitely no retirement visa/ extensions unless you are over 50 years of age.

There may be creative ways to get around this, but it will be difficult.

Possibly you can both go for the Thai Elite card program.

I will let others with more knowledge see if they can suggest some possibilities.

But just to warn you, Thailand is stillfar behind other countries in the rules on "domestic partners"

Thailand does.not accept same sex marriages

  7. I am in contact just now with a person in Dept of Foreign Trade MInistry of Commerce and she is assuring me this ban concerns parts only.

I understand her English perfectly but still she may not understand my very direct queries, however she is asking me to send copies of passport / visa docs so as to ascertain my eligibilty get it all in orrder, so I am assuming, on hope, I can still get this done. It isn't horribly expensive on an older car that was owned for one year within my own country - AND having been here a certain amount of time under B visa , etc WP one year etc etc

.. and it's already here on a temp import, ( 6 months per year allowed. )

BTW She expressed disappointment as to the govt policies on foreigner investment,

Please pm me if you would like the contact number.

Please can you give me the details == are you progressing with an import
