  1. I used to see Damon Zane in his restaurant all the time working and would talk with him. Loco Elvis and the place next door are still there, but it appears that Elvis has left the building. I go there every so often to eat Mexican, or a burger next door. Is he still alive, or did someone else buy em out? The food is a lot better now. No Elvis in the Elvis though? Or am I mistaken?

  2. Thanks! I have been having a difficult time finding meet that I can chew. I'm not sure why, but the Thai beef feels like you are eating camel. I have tried a lot of different types of meet here since coming to Chiang Mai and and am usually not excited about it. The only place I have found that has a good steak in town is over at the Dukes.

  3. I think it should be a mall. That Rincome intersection is far too quiet and low in traffic. rolleyes.gif

Absolutely! Since there's so little traffic, they'll probably build right to the edge of the street, then rent out the inside lanes of Huay Kaew and Nimmanheminda to food carts tongue.png

Actually, I heard the opposite: work is allegedly due to start soon widening the western side of the superhighway from Rincome. They've already closed down the small restaurants that were near the intersection in preparation. However, the site I was referring to is on the Santitham side, across from the Jet Yod intersection, not Rincome.

Oh I see. But something ginormous is also going up on the North-West corner of the Rincome intersection. Anyone know what that is?

    Yep!

Plenty more graphics of other developments too on this post on postjung

    NICE!!!!

  4. Tried the pizza a couple of days ago. Excellent. I'd call it American style pizza except that the guy who runs the place is an Aussie. Probably the closest thing to it is the Pizza at Dukes. My impression was that it's better than Duke's but I'm going to have to try it a couple of more times to be sure.

Sounds good!! I'll have to try it.

  5. It sounds good and clean. I well have to have some dinner there soon when I get back to Chiang Mai. It sounds very impressive unlike some of the other restaurants in the area. I want to try the Salmon with my wife and kids.

I did go there with the family and loved it!!! Nothing like Dukes burgers thankfully.

  6. Since I started going to Chiang Mai with my family, I have been looking for quality restaurants. The Dukes on the river is very good with David and the owners always coming out to greet everyone as well. Even the Dukes at the night bizarre is quite good, so what happened at this new Dukes burger franchise? The hamburgers are terrible there. I had gone next door to Loco Elvis and wasn't impressed at all either. I read where both of these establishments are owned by the same bone headed owners. Do they have the same cook? The preparation is terrible and taste nothing like the other Dukes in the city. I had read where quite a few people where getting food poisoning from next door. I didn't get sick, but I felt nauseousness for hours after eating there. This Dukes is an embarrassment to the franchise name. We need some more variety of good foreigner food in the city. Unfortunately, from what everyone is saying, this is not it.

  7. Isn't buying pre cooked food just laziness.Very few people I would suggest don't have kitchen. Buying mashed potaoes and casserole packs when you can cook up more than you need at home, and leave what you dont use, in the fridge for another day. Maybe a poll on who uses the fresh food markets and saves heaps of money against buying at Rimping/Tops would confirm that the take away mentality is alive and well in CM.

That same logic can be applied to every consumer good under the sun. Do you also buy freshly cut trees to carve your own furniture? Do you buy cotton to make your own clothes? Both of those would would save you heaps more money than just going to the store and buying pre-made items. Does that mean you're just lazy?

Its really about convenience, I guess.. Just as you probably lack the time and the skills necessary to convert raw cotton to thread, weave it to cloth and then stitch your own clothes, the same concept applies to other people when it comes to preparing food.

Some of us are not old retirees, with nothing better to do that waste our time cooking elaborate dinners while we wait to die. Some of us have full time jobs where we put in 60, 80 hours a week and/ or don't know how to cook. Sure I could squander what precious little free time I have left over in the week to try to prepare a casserole. But I'd much rather drop a little coin on a pre-made one and be able to dedicate my remaining free time to more meaningful pursuits.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

  9. I didn't get food poisoning, but the food reminded me and the family of something you would eat out of the frozen food section at the grocery store. The smell from the sewer was quite bad as well. Hey, didn't Elvis die on the toilet? Sounds ironic. Good thing I am getting health insurance. Can anyone point me in the direction of a descent health insurance plan. It looks like I am going to need it.
