Unless the more expensive "refundable" airline tickets were purchased...it is unlikely the ticket money will be refunded...

Lost $1,000 to Delta because of being unable to fly within their time frame...no apology...read the fine print.

The airlines all agreed to refund the cost of the flights.   Because it was booked through a travel agent the money was returned to the travel agent.   This is confirmed by the airlines.

Problem is the travel agent will not return the money to me.

  2. In April this year just before COVID started up I booked some tickets to Australia for travel during Songkran through a travel agent run by a Brit in Bangkok.   Paid the fare got the tickets booked and then the airlines cancelled all flights.  A month or 2 after that they decided to refund paid fares and sent emails out advising of this fact.   Three months have now past and the travel agent, the Brit travel agent who promotes himself as being a farang and so better able to help farangs, has still not refunded to cost of the fares.   Many promises, many missed deadlines, but no refund.   I can see now that the only farang he helps is himself.

Has anyone else had this experience with a travel agent in the Sukhumvit 101 area?  PM me if you have, there is strength in numbers.

  3. Ryan, the Thai government is intentionally making life hard for tourists who want to live in Thailand rather than simply have a holiday here.   Once they see back to back tourist visa entries into the Kingdom they may start to question your intentions.   Bear in mind also the whole family will need to make these visa runs and while it will be a bit of an adventure the first time it will get old pretty fast.

Suggest you google "Digital Nomad Thailand"   there is a great deal of information available on line.   This link may give you some information also http://www.thethailandlife.com/working-online-thailand

  4. AFAIK Centreline will never issue any cheques and will only pay into an Aussie bank accounts directly?

Besides who in Australia uses cheques these days? I thought the only developed country that still uses cheques was the USA (and they call them "checks"); they are almost obsolete in Australia.

Centrelink will pay to the overseas account of people who aree overseas for more than one year.

Good luck with that...it all changed last year for "new clients" Forget the overseas pensions

I think you should reread the information. This may be true for people on benifits but not the OAP

I was under the impression that overseas Australians could not get the OAP without staying full time in Oz for 1 or 2 years. Is this not the case?

  5. I have been working for the same employer in Thailand for over 10 years. Always had a work permit from that employer which is obtained from the onestop service (company is not BOI promoted). I would now like to add an additional employer (wife's company) to the work permit but have been told that I can not do this unless the new employer is an affiliated company of the first employer where affiliated means same shareholders or directors or similar connection. The new employer will meet the normal requirements of paid up capital and number of employees.

Can anyone here with two employers tell me if they found this rule or were they able to have two employers that were not affiliated.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

  6. The division has 1,148 officers on the payroll, 164 short of the required workforce.

It lost 98 officers, this month, who were promoted to commissioned officers and transferred to other departments

One would assume that there were as many 'old' commissioned officers as there are 'new' but lets say there are 150 commissioned officers, so they each supervise about 7 people each.

    Efficiency plus!

  7. I am no expert but I think data transmission speed is measured in Bits Per Second so 5mbps = 5 mega (million) bits per second.

100mbps and 54mbps are the speeds that you can reach on your local network (LAN)internally. You can not get these speeds on the internet.

File size is measured in bytes (8 bits = 1 byte) so knowing the connection speed you can calculate how long it will take to transfer a file.
