  1. does anybody have info on the rate you get from an atm when using a foreign card in thai, the atm offers a rate a little bit lower than market exchange rate and then asks if you want to continue with that rate or decline that rate and proceed with a rate that isn't shown.???

The exchange rate from Thai Baht to your local currency is made by the International credit companies depends on your card's brand.

Either to US$ or Euro .

For example see here Visa Europe rate : http://www.visaeurope.com/en/cardholders/exchange_rates.aspx

  2. HI

I can tell you from my experience , in Bangkok. it is possible and easy.

I had ED visa + 90 days extensions for more than two years , after age 50 I applied for extension based on retirement reason.

Here is what i did :

a/ letter from the bank saying i have 800K more than 60 days ( first time is 60,next year will be 90 )

b/ letter from school saying i no longer study

c/proof of residence might be asked .

First i went to "un-attach" the ED visa from the school , that is the purpose of the letter.

Then to the retirement officer showing letter of bank ,

    30 minute later i got a 1 year visa for 1900 B.

Your ED visa is a NON-IMM type , equivalent to NON-O

The reason they ask for a letter from school is to void the connection of your visa/extensions from school

    and change your 'status'

You can study Thai language at any school regardless your visa.

  3. So today I went to immigration office in Lad Prao.

Everything went smooth as detailed above .

Officers were kind and helpful , not much trouble for the documents, except money report which was inspected carefully.

ED visa was 'canceled' and new extension based on retirement starts today , so i 'lost' 10 days of the previous extension .

Lines were long, spent there few hours .

    Now i am officially retired ! w00t.gifwai.gif

  4. Hi everyone

Currently I have an ED visa ,extended every 90 days , (since mid 2012 ) now valid till Apr 22 /2014

As I am over 50 yo I wish to extend my stay based on retirement reason.

I read in this forum i can do it at the immigration with no need to leave the country.

Got the the required 800K in the bank since 2 month already and will present a letter from school regarding termination of studies.

My questions : A , How long before the expiring of the current extension should i go ? (few days are enough?)

    B. Will i get a 90 days or 12 month extension?

    C. Any other thing to do?

    Thank you .
