  1. Just did UKOG and NMD together at Samitivej, it's the only place I can get the Norwegian one in thailand now as Bumrungrad don't do it anymore.

Cost was 15,400 absolute f*cking rip off. UKOG needs a methodone/Heroin test. This needs to be done outside Thailand so it takes 9 days to get the certificate.

I will do it outside Thailand is future. I don't know anywhere in the world as expensive as here now.

  2. Just did the medical today at Samitivej. I confirm the last post that Bumrungrad do not do it anymore, I have been going there for the last 25 years.

I did the NMD and UKOG. Cost was excessive at 15,400 baht. Before I could get both at Bumrungrad for around 7,500.

Place opens at 6:30. Get there early to avoid the queues  and out by 10am but have to wait 4 hours to pick up the NMD certificate. UKOG have to wait 7-10 days and a return visit to pickup needed.

  3. Just back from Savanakhet today. The place was mobbed with an estimated 500 people wanting visas. Most of them Filipino. They kept the place open till 2pm for application and the buses on the way back over the bridge were mobbed. Seems like this place is soon to be "blown".

The guy who was herding the crowd said they are looking at going down the appointment route and limiting the number of serial "Tourist" visas.

Additional documentation was required in the form of the Laos Visa stamp copy. And for non-o 12 months, I was asked to show proof of fund.

    Guys,

Just a bit of current advise.

I am a UK Citizen currently going through the process of getting the Affirmation past Chaeng Wattana. Though it has been rejected twice. First as my visa only had 9 days instead of the required 10, be aware. Also note you have to be in the country for 3 days before you can get an affirmation. The second rejection was due to the content of the letter.

For my previous Divorce they did not like the term  KHON KAEN AMPHUR Office and needs to be replaced with MUENG KHON KAEN District Office.

Further they took offence to the use of MOO to be replaced with Village No. and T. to be replaced with Sub-District, A. with District and further to add the word Province after KHON KAEN.

So can probably infer that Tambon and Amphur are not acceptable use of English but then why MUENG is acceptable  is a mystery  and I would think its use might result in a further rejection? Whoopy Doo.

Anyway, another appointment is needed at the embassy and I have to pay for another letter. This some 12 days before my current visa expires. The Chaeng Wattana bit i have done through an agency hoping to avoid such issues.

    Its a minefield. Will update.

  5. Thanks for the info,

Good to hear that i wouldn't be legally obliged. Not that i am averse to occasional bouts of fairness. Just need to cover your own ar*e.

The last temporary Live-in smashed a bottle on my head and broke into the house twice on the same day !!!! A quick visit from the boys in brown fixed that one.

The Guy has been my best fishing buddy for 6 years, he will go against Thai opinion in my defence, i am lucky to have him as a friend and i trust him like a brother.

  6. Having been married before (Thai), lost quite a lot of Baht and now Divorced, free and Single, but thinking of letting another one in through the front door.

The problem is i have my own house and car etc. up in Khon Kaen. (in a male Thai Friends name) and the smell of money is a strong attractant for Thai girls. If having cohabited as bf/gf with a new girl can she lay claim to these or anything else for that matter, or can i pay her off with what i think is fair ? After the mandatory knife throwing act etc.

I work away 5 week and back to Thailand 5 weeks, if she stays in the house when i am here, but doesn't when i am away and i give her a monthly allowance, then surely this would work out fine - In theory - Yeah Right :o

Once bitten, twice shy, blah di blah....

When does a gf become a common law wife by Thai law ?

    Any ideas ?

  7. For fishing in Thailand you dont need any type of fishing license. Just fish where ever you fancy, as long as someone doesn't own the land. I guess someone will tell you if they do.

I have 2 fishing boats which i use for freshwater fishing. one a 14 ft Trailered fibreglass boat with a 50HP Outboard. This was made in Thailand and technically requires a license as a powered boat, but as long as you don't take it down past Chumphon where they have the road block for smuggled goods out of Malaysia, its not a problem.

For the dinghy you have, you wont need any license at all.

You could buy a Short shaft 5.5-10HP outboard, which second hand should set you back around 10-15,000 Baht. Loads of then in Pattaya/Chonburi, i would guess. The other option is a trolling motor which are hard to come by, most are imported through Singapore and are very expensive compared to US Prices. But you can pick them up second hand if you know where to look. But then you need a battery, car batteries wear out in no time, but i managed to get some decent cheap no-name deep cycle batteries from a Solar power company. Might be better to stick to rowing for a while, its more fun anyway.

You can also buy little Fibreglass dinghys which you can pick up for around 20,000 and up, but talking 40,000+ for a reasonable one.

Penzman I will be back in Thailand in around 3 weeks, PM me if you need any help on baits, tactics or sourcing equipment, i have plenty of Thai friends who know a whole lot more than i will ever know about fishing in Thailand.

Good luck with the fishing, hope you catch.

  8. This lake is located on the northeast corner of the NIDA intersection. To find this, head east from the Mall Bangkapi on Ladprao Road which will turn into Serithai Road (formerly called Sukapiban 2). When you see the Bangkapi School on your immediate right just head straight for a couple more blocks and that intersection is the NIDA intersection. You'll see that lake in the right hand corner. Just turn left then do a U-turn wherever you want and pull up on the roadside. Good luck!

This is also very close to Bung Sam lan. Which is the best pay lake in Thailand. Its at the end of a Soi of Sukapiban 2. From the mall (Bangkapi) you head up Sukapiban 2, the road does turns into a bit of a Chicane, after this you do a U-turn just under the overpass and its the first Soi on your Left (cant remeber the name of it), 7-11 just past the corner, the lake is signposted i think. Pointing and saying fishing repeatedly should get you there, the soi on the way down is lined with fishing shops and when you get to the end of it, the lake is in front of you. If i have fished it a few times and there are plenty of monster fish.

You can hire rods there and buy bait. if you don't have any. Buy a big tub of bread, some coconut milk and a bag of additive (the silver one with the blue label and a catfish on it is the best) Mix it all together, easy on the coconut milk, If you stand there looking daft, one of the locals might come and help you for the price of a beer. Word of advice, set your drag really loose, the fish (Mekong Giant Catfish) move off like steam trains. With hired tackle you will probably be only able to "Land" them upto around 20Kg. All in all it will probably stretch to 2000 Baht for a day all in.

Or you can use the services of Jean-Francois Hellas at www.anglingthailand.com, he will guarantee you a rake of fish and he might be able to catch you a siamese giant carp, which are well hard to catch. Don't quote me but i think he charges around 50000 Baht for a single angler, including pickup, drop off from Central Bangkok.

I live up in Khon Kaen, I go fishing for Giant Snakeheads out in the wilds regularly, much more fun, if anyone wants to talk fish, email me [email protected]
