By Chiang Mai Gate when they pulled the old pipe it looked brand new. I checked inside no sign of long term rust, the pipe looke prestine for having been buried. They replaced Iron Pipe with plastic, hopefully they knew how to install or they may have trouble with leaks down the road
Thanks for checking that pipe brother, We need more like you in this country!

Thanks for the swift reply! I sign my name at immigration every 90 days, the next one is due on the 8th of October. I got my original visa in Hull 7 years ago and have been extending it since. Does that mean I have to leave the country 24 hours after my contract?
-
Hi, I've been teaching over here for a while now but I'm heading back home in October. My last day at school is on the 5th of October but I wont be leaving the country until the 23rd. I have a work permit and visa both valid until March.
Will I be ok from the 5th till the the 23rd?
Cheers

Submitted on the 4th of July and got the passport (with visa!) back on the 22nd of August.
Big thanks to all those that took the time to share their experience and help make this whole process so much less painful!
Cheers!

Thanks for that!

Nearly forgot!
We submitted our settlement application on the 4th of July and still waiting...
-
Hi,
Just wondering how long a settlement visa is valid for. My understanding is that you submit your application within 3 months before you plan to go. All going well, they then issue a visa and you have 3 months from the day they issue it, currently around 2 months after application, to enter the UK. Is this correct?
Cheers

Just to amuse uptheos (easily done) will there be a songtell and a place to buy a meal that costs over 35 baht. Also they should not have pesticides in them. He likes bugs crawling all over his food.
Well, since you want to amuse me, I'll let you into a little secret. Because I don't live crammed into a stuffy room with another person, I am able to buy the food I like, wash any chemicals off properly and cook it with the best ingredients, in my own kitchen in my own house. I don't need to get a songtel or tuk tuk three times a day in order to buy a meal.
Don't complain to me about your lonely life. And the need to be cheap. I don't have to be cheap nor do I have to go far to get food any where from Western to Thai .Indian and Italian oops almost forgot the Japanese. These are ones with in walking distance. But I don't care for it any how. What makes you think I have a stuffy room?
Please try to stay on topic and not be a <deleted>.

Just wondering how many people rushed to get UK settlement visa applications in before doomsday (9th of July).
Apart from being generally interesting, it might also help to give an indication of waiting times etc.
-
Thanks for the replies, especially visa plus!
Interesting to hear that they wouldn't check the results online or contact the test center. Hopefully common sense will prevail! My wife is a tour guide and has been for 10 years. She speaks a very high standard of English and we included emails from clients complimenting her on her English, with our supporting documents. If they are unsure of her skills, hopefully her experience will help nudge their decision in the right direction. Also interesting to hear that they will (but don't usually) ask for evidence if they are unsure.
Thanks again for all the help!

We phoned VFS but they only advise. Has anyone had any luck contacting the embassy? I really need to know if what we have submitted will satisfy the English Language requirements.
Cheers

Thanks Bobrussell, All done. Think your both right, black is for filling out forms and blue for certifying documents etc.
Submitted our settlement application yesterday. Thanks for everyones help! All went well, except for an incident involving a bench outside Regent House, which even Thaivisa couldn't have prevented!
We submitted a print out of our online TOEFL test results, a print out of our registration receipt and details of how to access the results online. We also included the details of our KET test (registration receipt and details of how to access the results, when they are released on the 13th of July). Vfs accepted the application.
On the list of new approved english tests pdf, it says that all is required is the score report. I'm hoping that that with the other information we provided will be enough. I was just wondering if anyone else had any similar experiences. Also should we try and send the certificate, that we will hopefully get in the post in the next few days, to the embassy/vfs?
Cheers

Cheers dracos. Pretty much got everything together now. Looking forward to handing all this in next week. Thanks a lot all the help from everyone on here, it's made the whole process much more bearable!
Best of luck to all those applying!

Any ideas on what affect the rush of people getting their settlement applications in before the 9th, will have on visa waiting times? Hopefully they will have expected this and will increase man power accordingly.

Pretty much sorted now. Thanks again for all the help and advice! Just wondering about our wedding certificate. Should we include the original or is a signed photo copy and a translation ok?
Cheers

ok, I take it she has had quite a few visit visas then! Surely it's up to her whether she visits or lives there.
-
What do you mean by hassle? My wife went to the uk on a family visit visa and the guy at Heathrow immigration was very friendly and just asked her a few questions. It seemed the questions were mainly for her own safety, to check that she wasn't being trafficked etc.

Although not strictly Wing Chun, I've been to a teacher that teaches a very similar style of Tibetan Kung <deleted>. His name's Jay. He's located on Moon Muang soi 9. If you turn in off Moon Muang, he's on the left, just opposite the first mini soi on the right.

Cheers 7by7. That makes sense. I've heard a few people mention the need to include my wife's birth certificate. Is this really necessary? I would have thought her passport would have been more suitable. If it is required, are there any more requirement that you wouldn't normally think to include?
Many thanks

Hi,
Does anyone have any up to date information and prices for translation in Chiang Mai?
Thanks.
-
Cheers Bobrussell! It was mainly photocopies of passports that I was wondering about actually. Not only my wife's and mine but also my parents'. They will be sending over copies next week, should I ask them to sign each page first?
There are a few other documents that we are only suppling copies of, such as my degree and my thai contract. I'm thinking it wouldn't do any harm for me to sign them.
Thanks again for your help!
