  1. Can you just turn up with a British passport & get a Visa to cross over for a few hours at Mae-Sai Tachileik

If so,how much do it cost ?

Yes. Visa is 500 baht. Or 10 US dollars. roughly 200 baht cheaper if you use a $10 dollar bill.

Be aware, upon re-entry to Thailand you will use an entry on a multi entry visa, or be given 15 day land crossing visa.

Update: Before the TV correctness police come bearing down. Not sure if it's technically a "Visa".

  2. 3 full scale, carriages off the tracks, derailments on a single line, in one month and the response equals, "I'll give you one month to improve the bathroom service, and remove drunks and thieves from the stations, or else! clap2.gif

And what has been the previous response to accidents from any Government? or is this the first rail accidents Thailand has ever experienced? Surely some comment even if its just lip service is better than nothing?

I would guess, 3 derailments in a month on a single high profile tourist line, with multiple injuries would create an investigation from most governments, not a demand for bathroom service, drunk removal and a discussion on fares.

Lip service would be a comment that they're addressing the track condition and derailment problems and then do nothing. They're having to make a statement because of the derailments. Ignoring the very serious safety issues, concerning the derailments, in the statement is doing nothing. Ignoring the issue to focus on bathroom cleanliness, drunks and fares, what is that a combo of saving face/Thainess?

  3. That's my guess too. You aren't allergic to the proteins in the bite. I'm not either. I've watched them stick their proboscis in me and suck the blood, but I don't feel it or get any swelling from it.

I'm also not allergic to the proteins in poison oak or ivy. I read that only about 25% of the population is affected by it.

Ditto, never have been affected by poison ivy or oak. Never get mosquito bites.

  4. Funny thing is that my friend thought he was being careful and flicked it down a storm drain so he wouldn't be littering. I can understand the reasons for fining litterers though.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

How exactly is flicking it in the storm drain not littering? Your friend has that shared mentality that allows Thai's to treat storm drains as their own personal garbage disposal. Storm drains are for storm water, they lead to canals, rivers and oceans.

In my youth I was a smoker and didn't think twice flicking a cigarette anywhere. Now it drives me nuts to see how brazen and unconcerned people are with their cigarette butts. There isn't a beach anywhere in the world that isn't compromised by some D-Bag treating the beach like his private ash tray.

Smokers, every time you flick your butt anywhere outside, it's the equivalent of saying, "<deleted> You, somebody pick that up for me, I don't give a shit."

  5. I realize the OP has a British passport but just an FYI, I was told at Chiang Mai immigration at one point that I needed to add pages soon when I had at least 5 pages left. I asked why and he pointed out that my US passport has most of the pages marked "Visas" on the top center of the page. However the last 3 pages doesn't have "Visas" but has the word "Endorsements" printed vertically on the outer margins. Unsurprisingly, I was told can't put Visa on a page that doesn't say "Visas". Can't say it's an immigration rule system-wide, but as we all know, better safe than sorry, than trying to reason with a government official.

  6. I just found the answers to your question in about half a minute by simply Googling the phrases "us passport" and "add extra pages" which took me straight to the info on the US State Department's website.

I'm ever amazed by the many questions that get asked here on TV.com that could so easily and quickly be answered my simply using Google.

I have to get pages added to my passport soon. I saw the post headline in the email, featured topics and clicked. I was curious to see what other expats had done concerning adding passport pages, interested in where they went, time frames, and difficulties that might have occurred. What I learned from this post is that there are other options available to me besides just adding pages, I can renew. I now know that there is a slight price difference between adding pages and renewing. If I renew, what problems might occur that I might not have considered. I learned that there are 2 add page options. I learned how long other expats waited for their passport to arrive. I learned where it might be best to exercise any of these options. I don't believe the state departments website provides the personal experiences and insight that the OP's question has generated.

I'm ever amazed by the never ending negativity on TV, particularly from the most senior members. In stark contrast to most online communities, the senior members on TV are nearly always responsible for the most trollish, negative, denigrating comments. I have an idea after living in LOS for the past year and my interactions with the expat community, that to a large extent the expat community in Thailand is predominately a bunch of social misfits unable to function in the west and come here because the Thai's tolerate their BS.

I mean really, what required you to spend one moment of your time to reply, and add NOTHING to the conversation? In the future, if you think it's a question below your clearly superior intellect, <deleted> and move on.

In closing, thank you OP for the question and thank you TV community for your experiences and insight, I for one learned something today because of you.

    T.

You can buy these in Chiang Mai and Bangkok. They seem to becoming popular here now.

Been looking for this type of bike forever here in Chiang Mai, where do you find them? I found one at a used bike shop, he wanted 5500.
