Very sad for his wife and 6 month child. But he broke the law

My flatmate got mugged the other day. Just outside the bank close to Sule pagoda, downtown Yangon He was using one of the black-market touts on the road and they set him up. Strange because it’s their regular patch, and they will be caught. So be aware crime has come to Yangon.

What are others experiences here?

How is the access going, I believe overland is opening up, but the boats going into the Archipelago still have to carry a guide?

Great report, I have been to Kawtaung a few times and the Archipelago but not Myeik yet. I hear there is a new shopping, but the development of Myanmar seems to be passing the south at the moment.

There are many people looking at investing but the logistics will prove challenging, i just hope they develop it the rightway

Rents have skyrocketed here for sure, but you can still get 5-600U$ / mth places reasonable condition not that many miles from downtown.

My question is why downtown, there is not really a commercial business centre, rents are way cheaper around the airport or north. Power and internet are a problem but they are still an issue all over Yangon.

This country is not westernized things work differently, foreigners come in expecting to get all the latest facilities, it’s not going to happen in the short time the country has embraced capitalism, give it time.

I/m looking at visitng Mergui sometime soon, what is there to do there?

I realise its a bit out of season, flights from Yangon are are journey in themselves. I think Mergui is being missed in regards to the Archipelago. Tourists so far have ventured up from Thailand through Kawtaung.

So does anyone have places to go, hotels and resturants to visit?
