I'm on the gold coast and no lockdown here and no new cases in 200 days I think.
Free medical in the first class medical system. A pension card makes sure you never pay more than $7 for a prescription and half price for bus and tram
Amazing clean surf beaches dotted with surf clubs where you can drink beer and dine with a stunning view
Cheap deli food and stupid cheap wines and oh the magnificent range of cheeses. Beer where I drink is $5.50 per schooner a bit more expensive than Thailand
Best of all the pub down the road does $6 rump steak and chips. Not a huge portion but enough for me
Of course this is all wiped out by the expensive rent but government rent assistance of $300 A month helps somewhat
But the worst thing is young women look right through you like your not even there. Getting a young wife for an older guy is just a fantasy unless you many millions
That is the only reason anyone would give up australia for thailand. Australia is way better in every other way.
I have no idea why the OP wanted to slash his wrists if he was stuck in australia for a few months. That is just weird

Cheap charlies can lead the high-life on Soi Bukow......
Start your night by...
Taking a baht bus for 10 baht or better yet walk for free to get to the LK metro area..
Scope the area out for balloons and the smell of roasting pig.....If balloons can not be found settle on the nightly special at Hungry Hippo for 79 baht for your nightly feed...
Meetup your mates at Zero bar for a few rounds of 40 baht beers...
Next move the party to one of the GoGo bars, preferably the one with the 69 baht draft beer but if its a unlucky night you might have to pay as much as 79 baht.....
Make that draft beer last for a looooog time as you enjoy the nightly entertainment...
If you see a girl dancing you like give her a 20 baht tip...But make sure your roaming hands get their full money's worth......( Hey the girl is now 20 baht richer)
Then its back to Zero bar for a 40 baht nightcap before heading home.......
At least they are spending money in the thai economy to hopefully keep some of these places afloat until us tourists can come back
What are you exactly doing with your money?

Seriously.
Do you really think they are talking about that.
That seems to be a thaivisa keyboard warrior thing behind closed doors

looks fun. I see that the usual crowd of superannuated crocked old farts are in attendance. I think I will pass.
So what do you do for fun.
They seem to be happy to me.

I guess a lot of people have no clue about real expats not retirees. There are quite a few expats in Thailand with good businesses and others that work for international companies. Quite some young people from Singapore for instance being hired for foreign companies. Gf is from there.
Maybe you should keep dreaming. I can tell you if you can make money or find a good job here its much more fun then in your home country.
I love where I live. And I love holidaying in thailand.
But you wont find me making smart <deleted> comments about the age of guys sitting in bars. They have obviously retired in thailand and are happy to be there.

If you are in Thailand now you probably look the same as those guys.
No tourists allowed - only expats

That depends on educating children, unless depending on importing talent. I'm guessing that OZ education is much the same as NZ, so more interested in social engineering than skills for work. I very much doubt the South Koreans gave their school kids the day off to go "protest" about climate change.
Who would want to live in south Korea over australia - Get a grip on reality.

There is no advantage to australia opening a travel bubble with thailand. The tourist traffic is all one way. The wrong way for australia

The Premier of Qld is playing to a captive audience. Even she said "if I open the borders too early, 30,000 might die. Apparently she has overruled the mouse that is her chief Doctor, and whaddaya know there's an election due October.
That is all <deleted>.
I live in QLD and it is nothing like you are saying. We have 5 active cases in a population of 5 million people. No one is worried about anyone dying. Everyone wants everything opened now.

An abscess on the ass of humanity, I for one won't miss it. The city attracts the worst of both Thais and foreigners. It will be a shame as many people will lose their jobs or worse their businesses.
But with the likes of this place gone and Phuket too, maybe young girls might have to find "real" work, might too encourage them in education. Also most of all the government to creat other employment.
I might be dreaming, but a massive brothel by the shhht infested seaside hardly creates pride and respect for the area. Speaking as a father of 2 mixed race kids.
And where did you meet your kids mother. I bet you didnt go to school with her in farangland

Just a thought. Do gold shops exchange foreign currency?

A friend of mine has 1000 euro she is trying to exchange in Korat but the banks wont accept it - due to the coronavirus apparently.
Does anyone know where she can exchange it in Korat.
Thanks

Yep. It seems the airlines are just cancelling flights rather than discounting

I am thinking of heading down to patong for 5 days after not being there for 3 years.
My first 10 trips were all to patong before I found pattaya. I have a thai girlfriend now and want to take her to phuket.
So these are my questions.
How is Patong these days - has coronavirus killed the vibe of patong
I normally stayed at poppa palace ( now called La vintage) as it is only 200 metres from Bangla. Has anybody stayed there recently
Whats the best way to get from the airport to Patong. Book taxi through the hotel, or grab a taxi on arrival
Thanks

For a week? A month?
*900*1767# 1 GB 7 days 41.73 baht
*900*1776# 4 GB 30 days 160.5 baht
Thanks Mate.
If i do it in 7-11 is there some extra fee on top of the 160.5 baht.
I am a bit of a newbie at this. If I top up say 200 baht and then put the code in - is that all I need to do
-
Anybody know the code for a simple 1gb or 2 package for a month. I only use the phone to talk on line.
The true move website is useless
I still have a sim card

For the overwhelming number of Falang visitors to Pattaya the only way they're ever going to get a 'girl friend' is if they pay for one. I'm the same.
Even the ones who settle with a 'wife' have only been married for their money.
But it suits lots of us. Probably more than it suits them because they've got to be on their best behaviour all the time while we haven't.
I fixed it for you
For the overwhelming number of Falang visitors to Pattaya the only way they're ever going to get a 'girl friend' half their age is if they pay for one. I'm the same.

After reading this thread I got a bit nervous about my upcoming trip in May this year.
I'd like to stay 24 days on visa exemption.
The problem may be the history that the Immigrations database will bring up:
2015: 103 days in Thailand, 4 trips in total, 3 on VE and 1 on SETV
2016: 76 days in Thailand, 3 trips in total, 2 on VE and 1 on SETV
2017: 74 days in Thailand, 3 trips in total, 2 on VE and 1 on SETV
2018: 88 days in Thailand, 3 trips in total, 1 on VE and 2 on SETV
No back to back visa / VE, no overstay, no extension of VE/SETV, all SETV issued by an Thai embassy in Europe.
Left Thailand on December 1st, 2018.
There's also an unused SETV sticking in my passport. I wanted to fly to Thailand by February 28th, but Thai Airways did mess it up completely, so I had to cancel.
Male, white, 58, will be flying in business class with Finnair and using the BFS Premium Service.
May it be a good idea to have a fully flexible ticket back home in the pocket, just in case that the IO has a bad day or not yet reached his rejection quota?Business class is fully flexible.

Most fly in fly out workers (mining, oil rigs etc) fall into that category. Nothing illegal with what they are doing.
There are plenty of guys in aus that fly straight from the mines to thailand for the 2 week rotation - dont even have a house in aus. Cheaper to stay in a hotel for 2 weeks then rent a house in aus permanently

I'm not a fan of Asics. They make a lot of motion control shoes and other shoes meant to change your gait. Plus the heal-to-toe drops are like wearing a high heel shoe. Lots of shoes these days dont tell the drop. Saucony has it printed on the insert. I've never had more pain in my feet than when I wear Asics.
Asics saved me. For years I had sore feet, never had them checked, after work each day I would be in pain. When I did get them checked I had flat feet. I got recommended asics with the arch support. I have never looked back. Now I have 4 pairs

Here's a simple test. Walk along any High street in your home country. For me that's the UK. You'll see (the majority of women) will be fat, grumpy, stressed, boring looking creatures. Now compare to a similar location in Thailand....I rest my case
Really... where I live I get a boner just walking down the street. There are young hot girls everywhere.
But unfortunately none are interested in me.

Yes. I understand - Melbourne is a <deleted>hole, I went there for a week and died of boredom. In queensland we have been open for most of the year and life is normal as usual
And being a grown man having to live under your sons roof would just be embarrassing
