By the way, Fox News just said that the King supports the coup!
... that would be one of my strongest reasons to believe he is actually not,
coming from Fox News I mean...
As I recall, CNN confirmed that as well.

STREAMING THAI TV
You can also watch CNN on the web at:
http://www.cnn.com/pipeline/index.a.html
They have a free trial or even if you want to pay for it, it's very cheap, only $2.95 USD a month.
That probably should work in Thailand...

STREAMING THAI TV
Here's a streaming video link from Thai TV. You must paste this into Windows Media Player, in order for it to work:
http://streaming1.ip-tv.tv/itv_live
What you do is open Windows Media Player, then go CTRL+U, and paste that URL in. Do NOT try to pull it up in your browser, as it won't work.
They're rotating between playing music videos about the King and a static blue screen with something written in Thai. If anyone can read Thai, please let me know what it says.

Hello Cambodia!
Hello Laos!

Here's a good website for the airport, complete with map, pics, even a short 5 minute movie:

Anyone know how to pronouce it?
Soo-warn-uh-boom?

Kind of old news now, but there's a video of the fire here.

It's crap! I'm an American and am frankly ashamed that we're pumping this vulgar, coarse music into the rest of the world. I'm no prude, nor am I an old man. I avoid places like the plague that play it....

So you've been bitten by the bug too? Me too! I am absolutely, thoroughly in love in Thailand and have pretty much the same goals. I've been there many times over the years, but (unforunately) am not ready to make the leap.
Here are a few links you may find helpful:
The Pattaya Expats Club - expats helping expats
Mostly tourist info, but still lots of good information on Bangkok
Good luck!

Great post George! I already had most a lot of this stuff, but still it's cool to get all the updates, all in one fell swoop! Of course, I have a fast 6.5 Mbps connection where I am, so that helps a little with the download times.

Wow, thanks The_Other_Mac!
That all sounds like great stuff. Slice of life stuff that would be excellent in a documentary. I will be there for a month, so I'll have lots of time to look up these places.
I have a Steadicam (cam stabilizer) and of course a tripod, to make sure the cam is steady. I'll be certain to respect everyone's privacy/anonymity.
If you have any other ideas, I'd sure appreciate them! I'm looking for the entire range of things in Bangkok, including the regular tourist attractions like the Grand Palace, but certainly not limited to them. I'm looking for the kind of thing you'd want to see, if you were watching a documentary on BKK. Or the kind of places/things you'd take a friend, coming out for a visit, (and you'd want to impress the hel_l out of him, with how interesting a place BKK is.)
So again, thank you so much for your suggestions!

What's the most visually intriguing, interesting or outrageous thing you seen in Bangkok? --Of course, aside from all the katoeys, bar girls, street vendors selling bugs to eat--what else would be great to show in a documentary on Bangkok?
The reason I ask is I'll be shooting a travel documentary on an upcoming vacation in January and would like to show stuff that's out of the ordinary. The more unusual and interesting, the better!

Anyone know if there is a way to tour over Bangkok in a helicopter, say, for 20-60 minutes? I'd love to get a bird's eye view and tape it, on an upcoming vacation there.
So, have you done it? For how much?
No, my trip got pushed out to January '06. But when I get there, I'll definetly do this, and update this thread.
Thanks to everybody who gave such great information! (Keep it coming, if anybody knows anything else!)

OK, I see the website now. That's perfect! Thanks again!
I wanted one of those really great shots for the video, sweeping across the city and this should do it beautifully.
-
Excellent! Thank you so much!
Do you know if there's any charge to go up to the top?

I'd like to shoot some video of Bangkok from the highest point I can, with the best view. Anyone know of which building that's open to the public, where one could do that?
-
I just dialed the first number and it's a fax line now. Tried the other one and there's no answer. Will try later. Thanks for the info, hope it turns out.
Anyone else know of anything along these lines?

Leave Pattaya alone. Allow it to be the adult-oriented attraction. With all the bars in place, it would make sense.
Make Jomtien the family-oriented attraction. With the Pattaya Park Tower and Water Park in place and all the beaches, it would make more sense to do that.
-
I say yes. Clean it up, tax it. Let adults decide what they want to do.
-
I vote for the fun-city we all know and love.
-
Does anyone have any more info on the new CarreFour being planned for the Jomtien area?
1) Does anyone know exactly where it will be built?
2) Does anyone know when it will open?
-
I just can't believe they are going to screw up Nana and Clinton (the best areas) and leave Patpong alone (the worst area).
We need to revolt!
