Hey, does anyone know what's going on at Chiang Mai university, I'm enrolled with their Thai course at the language Institute but I heard a rumour that there's problems there and the course future is uncertain, then I went looking here on Thaivisa and came across the threads from 2010 when they used to run the courses and then shut it all down and didn't refund. I do know they have problems with their TEFL course because the instructors have quit, then I heard that the Aussie bloke who ran it all before when they sacked the management and threw everyone out, has been chased out the country by them suing him so he's threatening to spill all the beans on who he bribed there and whose pockets all the money went into. Man, I sure hope they aren't going to shut it down again, I've recently paid for a full year in advance and need the visa, sounds like it was a real mess last time around.

1. What level are you at?
Can have a conversation, follow some TV programs, read basic signs etc
2. Can you read and write Thai?
Yes, learnt that 10 years ago but slow at reading and my spelling for writing isn't great
3. How long have you been learning for?
on and off for 10 years, though I now have a private teacher to improve my reading and writing to keep up with the kids.
4. How did you learn?
Out of a book at first, took a few short courses, then left it for 5 years while getting by, then started with a private teacher 2 years ago.
5. What other languages could you speak before Thai?
Only English.

Find this difficult to believe in Thailand, Thais are so shy they wont even show up in bikinis at the beach, male or female, still, since most Thais are fit looking it would be interesting....

On domsestic flights too, despite being the national carrier Thai don't get to dock, that's how crowded this airport is, and they cost more than others, but that said I find it quicker by transit bus to the luggage pickup, beats miles on a travelator. But on the outbounds it's dissapointing they are usually at A5 right at the end of the concourse.

I find that flying domestic they don't even get to dock, that's how crowded this airport is, and to think its the national carrier and charging more, but that said, I find it quicker to disembark into a transit bus and be dropped right outside the luggage collection rather than have to travel miles on travelators. Also get in before my luggage, but outbounds is a drag since they're always at A5 which is right at the end of one concourse.
What'S Up At Chiang Mai University Language Institute

Update on this, I found out that the president wants to shut the whole language institute and have nothing further to do with foreigners, because he's sick of all the bad rumours circulating that he used to get a large cut from the profits of the old course. I'm not sure if that is true but I heard it from a reliable source who works in the university that he's thinking of terminating the courses all the same. Wouldn't we all love to know the whole truth about why it was suddenly closed the first time around. From reading up, it seems like they never did come up with a good reason for stopping the first time, all very fishy eh? Well, at least I just got three more months on my visa so I'll see how it goes.
