  1. Haven't read about any jet-ski scams recently, I thought the tourists have learnt, guess not if it's still happening...

I realize most of the regulars here are bored with it but its still going on daily

  2. I dont think the city is entirely are fault, they are, but there are multimillion dollar establishments on the other side of the road that could afford to maintain the beach that their clients use, or even the footpath right outside their establishments, but they dont care either, so why should the city have a different attitude?

I do not work for any of these hotels or restaurants along Beach Road but they spend a lot on their own property due to the poor infrastructure in Pattaya...such as maintaining the sidewalks in front of their establishments; making sure they have generators for when the electricity goes out; making sure there is water storage for when the water goes out in the city.... and all the tax they do pay to the city. The Pattaya Bay beach is used as an attraction to draw tourists to the city. It only makes common sense for the city to maintain the beach and to get serious about the erosion.

the reason I posted that is because I have accidentally stood in slimy water and twisted my ankles right outside several of these restaurants and hotels, it would cost about 500b a year to pay someone to fill the holes but they obviously dont care anymore then the city cares

  3. In fairness there was one lifeguard on Pattaya beach on new years day. I remember because he waited till I was right in front of him before blasting his whistle thru my head at some Thai kids splashing in the shallow water. He had a uniform similar to the police and boots on but I do believe he was a genuine lifeguard even if a buffoon

  4. if I could find a tropical city beach resort thats like Pattaya but has seats on the beach I would move there tomorrow

    That's like Pattaya. smile.png

There is none, of course. Just another way of saying you want seats on the beach in Pattaya. May your wish someday be fulfilled.

I havent given up on the seats yet, its was only five years ago they had the plastic circular ones that sat on three round legs and every time a farang tried sitting on them they landed on their ass on the pavement, in any other city the counsel would have been sued but in Pattaya it was free entertainment for the ladies

  5. On Pattaya's main pier it was business as usual Monday for the operators of double-decker wooden ferries preparing to take tourists out on day cruises.

"After an accident like this the boats should be grounded for checks but today they are all running," said a European working in the city's marine tourism industry who spoke on condition of anonymity.

"The boats are very old. There's no maintenance. They are always overcrowded... there's no head count."

says it all really, nether the police or mayor or government or boat mafia gives a toss, only quick money runs Pattaya

  6. One solution for this would be all jet ski's have video cameras recording all activity and they must stay in a designated area an an independent company monitoring the cameras at all times and reporting all incidents of scams and extortion.

Tourist police to be notified when an incident occurs and to direct the victims to the police to lay charges so the new tourist court can be used.

Providing this can be done without corrupt cops being involved which is really the biggest problem it should work.

Maybe the volunteer tourist police should be based there from morning till evening.

Sent from my iPad using ThaiVisa app

the police run this scam, the tourist police have no powers over the police

  7. I dont come just for the beach but if it wasnt here I would go elsewhere, I prefer to live by the sea, I only wish it was cleaner so I could swim in it. if its just boys or girls you are after may as well go straight to Issan where its cheaper

  8. Yet another example of Thai justice in action, with four youngsters being convicted of a crime by the police and media before they have even appeared before a judge.

What are their chances now of a fair trial? Zilch.

I dont think Thai justice works like that. the police decide if they are guilty and the sentence and then the judge signs it off if, the accused dont see the judge or give evidence unless they can afford a lawyer which these guys cant

  9. "An obvious opportunity was lost when the recent road widening of Pattaya Beach Road did not include an effective drainage system."

OK, but where is the surface water supposed to run to when there is no elevation?

into the sea but via pipes rather then over the beach

  10. You are right. Some people do not want to go to Jomtien. The real issue is that the baht buses are stopping and blocking traffic. How to fix that? I am not sure. In my country people can take one look at the "buses" and know the direction they are going. Here, you really do not know, unless they are in the right lane and do not move to the left, then you do know they are going to Jomtien. Whatever, I predict a traffic jam right before the turn (by the Walking Street sign) and immediately after. The design is funneling cars into a narrow space. FUBAR.

go down in the evening and you will see your prediction is a little conservative, the traffic jam goes back to at least royal garden and high season isnt here yet. tourists sitting in the back of baht busses breathing fumes making slower progress then pedestrians, who are also breathing fumes now that they have a traffic jam right next to them

The traffic jam has always been a problem and is worse in high season. The problem is parking, baht buses stopping and the timing of the lights at South Road/Second Road junction. This should be dealt with, but has nothing to do with the widening of Beach Road.

it has quite a lot to do with it, for one thing you now have to walk right next to the jam on a narrow path, and I dont recall there being a constant jam down to royal garden before they did this, maybe I didnt notice it because I wasnt walking 6 feet away from it but Im pretty sure it wasnt that jammed, its caused by adding an extra lane but then merging it back into two lanes at soi 13/4, they can solve it by not allowing parking after soi 13/4 but thats a very small job so if they cant do it now to solve the problem I doubt they will do it ever, but who knows. if they dont do it then adding the extar lane from pattaya klang was a pointless idea
