  1. This is the answer to my own question if it of any use to anyone

This is the info that I got from Kasikorn. I haven't tried it myself yet as I haven't had any problems using the K-Web card . Let us know if it works.

    Enter the link to

apply Verified by VISA (for Web card) <https://rt03.kasikornbank.com/eweb/enroll.aspx>

-Fill in the online secured form with your credit card number or Web card number and details as required.

-Specify your own Personal Assurance Message (PAM)** and password.

-Specify your reset password question and enter your e-mail address to receive information about benefits and marketing activities from KASIKORNBANK.

-You can use your Verified by Visa password immediately after registration.

** Personal Assurance Message (PAM) is the message that you specify during registration and will be appeared on the website while you are making online transaction to ensure that online shop is a Visa-authorized merchant.

  2. Everything is working well now

    just have 1 more question

with K-Web Shopping Card. I am using a site called I-Offer also. the arrangement there says the card should have Verified by Visa for extra security. Is this required. I know it is normally required, but I am unclear about the K-Web system

    Thanks

  3. Very helpful thanks

I have figured out a bit of that since. The card I have has internet facility. I just found updated to that virtual online debit card facility and changed the address they hold to English script instead of Thai.

So far so good - try again tomorrow once the server updates

    Thanks again....

  4. Hi

Can anyone with experience give me a pointer on this.

I have set up a paypal account successfully using a Kasikorn account with permission for internet banking ecommerce (shopping cart etc). Basically a standard account and tell them you want to use it online. Includes debit card. I am UK native

I am now trying to open an E-Bay account. I have been assured by a local farang with years of experience it is possible using the same Kasikorn account. Upon trying it will not authorise the card. When I questioned the online system, they said - Can only register with a Credit Card within Thailand.

Be happy to here any extra feedback. Not interested to hear about registering from UK account etc. Just want to figure out about this locally.

    Thanks

  7. Hi

I was hoping to get a 30 day stamp at the Nong Khai border from Laos in a few days. It had slipped my mind about onward tickets. I have a British passport and can go get a visa in Vientiene if I must, but prefer not to if possible. I am currently on holiday in Laos further north. I had a Thai tourist visa before leaving Thailand last week. Could someone pass on the latest for me please.

    Many thanks.

  8. Big question but as you want proof then I would have to encourage you to plunge into the heavy waters of esoteric world. By far the most illuminating study I have made which covers absolutely everything conceivable and inconceivable is the Pratyabhijna-hrdayam by the Kashmiri sage Kshemaraja.

Sorry, I'm too busy trying to practice the Buddhas parth to awakening, I don't think I can afforc the luxury of sideshows.

Proof is all around you all the time but you don't see it. It is not for other people to prove to you.

It's very easy to make high sounding sweeping statements on life the universe and everything without backing them up because they are so high sounding they don't seem to need backing up. Of course anyone who doesn't agree is just "unable to see it".

All I ask is you to provide just one anecdote where you put your faith in an amulet, got a good result from it, and how you determined it was the amulet that did it.

If you can't do that I'd prefer you desist from high sounding sweeping statements on life the universe and everything and limit the discussion to the Buddhas teachings.

Your contempt at stating an outstanding piece of philosophy as a sideshow really does highlight serious lack of awareness. Buddha never said that his path and the splitting of the Buddhist paths into separate yanas is the only viable perfected path. It is widely accepted that there are more and they feed and assist each other to some degree in the human experience. I am here to debate and I am free to talk about subtle energy, not put on a circus for you. Don't presume what you feel is relavent in the thread is what everyone wants. Also don't pick up spelling mistakes with others when you have several.

  9. Brucenkhamen - "This is the whole point of Buddhism, that the ultimate is achievable by ordinary men and women."

I have to confess although I am not a follower of the Buddhist dharma. I have studied a little, but your ideas seem very limited about the nature of Buddha. How can you begin to concieve that Buddha was an ordinary man without considering the magnitude of the universal creation.

He is ordinary providing you understand fully the ultimate achievement of a sentient sole. Like it or not in the final phases of this amazing achievement they get mastery of the universe including time. They have no boundaries at all in any shape or form. Any boundaries, any discriminatations, misunderstandings, or anything that is not perfectly balanced will prevent them from the ultimate. The body is just a cloak, all experiences and feelings are illusions to assist on the path.

Karma as far as Buddha is concerned including short sightedness and everything else conceivable within the framework of cause and effect is described perfectly by Buddha. How can Buddha’s teachings not be perfect? Surely it is the fault of the sentient being with the contracted and limited awareness that is at fault, not the teaching.

There / was is nothing physical or meta physical that is not Buddha. If you dig into the philosophy and contemplate enough you will realise that you are and have always been a perfected Buddha but your limited awareness severely restricts your ability to realise this truth.

  10. The symbols have a natural resonance with the universe. In sanskrit is called Yantra.

Sometimes the monks, or shamen or whoever is making the tattoo calls a deity / demon/ warrior / animal or could be something else to reside in the tattoo. Sometimes its like a contract and the person has to do sometihing on a regular basis to uphold the power of the tattoo or it will fade in it potency or the person will become sick or unfortunate.

Example of where this happens is Wat Bang Pra where many mafia types go for protection. The monks often wear the Ru-See (Rishi) head mask and call the spirit to become empowered within the tattoo. Not sure about this point, but I think sometimes the monk becomes possessed by the spirit while the tattoo is tapped in.

  11. Just a couple of points if anyone could comment......

I am sure I have read and heard that Buddha, and previous Buddhas had full mastery of the the universe and were adept in all manner of yogic powers including creating new worlds. Now he was a sentient being lets not forget. Surely this is a God also.

    I disagree with these points

You can not change your past

You can do little to influence the future

The future is unknowable, the past is unchangeable - this is wrong!

There is nothing you can not do all limitations are created by yourself.

  12. Thank you Thai Clan - very nicely put

As far as understanding how everything functions from the microcosm to the macrocosm, including all the subtle energies and which hold us together, hold the atoms together and sustain every part of the universe and other realms.....

Proof is all around you all the time but you don't see it. It is not for other people to prove to you.

  13. It is better to understand where you came from so that you get a clearer picture of where you are going, not withstanding the need to be aware of the present.. Buddhism is disparate to some degree and the vast array of Indian philiosophies cover everything and are often contracdictory. But one thing is true - There is unity in diversity, everyone has to find there own way. Don't forget also that Buddhism is an Indian philosophy.

Ok then. I've got a birth defect, I'm short sighted. Where did it come from? Both of my parents are short sighted so I think that's more than coincidental don't you. Is that Kamma? Who knows? Who cares? Knowing whether it is or isn't won't help me see a clearer picture of where I'm going... spectacles will.

So I'd be interested in someone explaining an example of how knowing the kammic causes of something you were born with you would get a clearer picture of where you are going, and how you could prove that was not merely speculation.

Spiritual healing, Reiki for instance in the more advanced practices deals with this alot. Various levels of consciouness also gross and subtle parts of the body are constantly undergoing healing. It is often important for the conscious / subconscious to undrestand the real reason they inherited a condition. I am not going into this in any detail. Some people will benefit from knowing the karmic cause and some don't need to know or will not benefit. The most important thing to undertand is that there is no one to blame - all past, current and future conditions are yours and yours alone. If you want to fully understand Karma, it is very clearly defined within Buddhism.

  14. Everyone has a passion. Yours might be painting. Each passion will probably be tested out. Each individual should make there own choices about what they do. The universe is limitless, all limitations come from a lack of understanding truth. If you want to learn more about this kind of thing from a Buddhist perspective, you might look at Vajrayana and the supporting tantras.

Yes but what's it in aid of?

In terms of the four noble truths and the noble eightfold path where does it get you?

Following your passion sounds kind of fun, but it sounds more like a spritual dead end to me, a distraction from what the Buddha would have you do, remember the handful of leaves.

If you understand the limitlessness of the universe but still don't understand your own heart you've got nothing, other than perhaps interesting topics to discuss at cocktail parties.

Following Buddhas perfected teachings (if thats what you do) is a passion. It will unfold and expose you to many things over many lifetimes, some of which will be supernatural (if you are affected by it or let it pass, we dont need to discuss here). At that time if you choose to study it scientifically you wont need to ask questions about it. There is much that Buddha chose not to talk about, that does not mean those subjects do not affect many people, directly or indirectly.

Whats it in aid of is the wrong question. All activity in each individuals field of awareness is relavent to them. Amulets work with subtle energies which modern science chooses not to explore, except perhaps a little in quantum physics. It is common currency in many ancient and occult arenas.

  15. Quite subjective on the basic level and not obvious usually. There is a science behind it but it is not for the faint hearted. If you make a study of shamanism, tantrism or magick. Try to appreciate the state of universal consciousness then some can affect this state with various methods.

So the question arises... why bother?

Everyone has a passion. Yours might be painting. Each passion will probably be tested out. Each individual should make there own choices about what they do. The universe is limitless, all limitations come from a lack of understanding truth. If you want to learn more about this kind of thing from a Buddhist perspective, you might look at Vajrayana and the supporting tantras.

  16. True. The Buddhas teaching on Kamma (at least the affect part) is about being aware that everything you do now affects your future, it's not about speculating how you got where you are now. The latter may be the case with other Indian philosophies and perhaps that's where the confusion come from.

  17. The life experience is a phantasmagoria (for want of a better word) and is a reflection. The amulets (when they work) program the reflection to behave in a different way. Same a voodoo. Deities are often used, or requested.

How do you know when they work?

  18. Brihadaranyaka Upanishad

You are what your deep driving desire is; As your deep driving desire is, so is your will; As your will is so is your deed; As your deed is so is your destiny.

We live in accordance with our deep, driving desire. It is this desire at the time of death that determines what our next life is to be. We will come back to earth to work out the satisfaction of that desire.

  19. The life experience is a phantasmagoria (for want of a better word) and is a reflection. The amulets (when they work) program the reflection to behave in a different way. Same a voodoo. Deities are often used, or requested.

  20. This is something I have come to believe. Others have similar beliefs from various belief systems.

I would be interested to know how this compares with Buddhas teachings (I can't remember).

Samsara is a wheel and towards the top you can get a rebirth as a human if you choose to. Human rebirth is high up the pecking order and can not be achieved quickly. You have choices before birth and your condition is pure consciousness without the sensory complications, but carrying the Karmic impressions of previous activities. Karma is cause and effect, ying/yang. All Karma has to be resolved to establish balance in the universe. Some Karmas are only able to be resolved in the human condition at this place, so eventually you have to come back (unless all worldly Karmas have been balanced). Before rebirth you have choices based on your Karmic makeup. You can choose one of many lives to further your battles, remedies, greeds, love, spiritual progress or whatever the current intention might be. If you choose to remedy some of your negative Karma you may choose a defect body or cursed life purely to balance Karma so that you progress spiritually, whether you realise this or not during the life.
