  1. Hi all I'm converting a 7msq room into a steam room , ive seen locally made steam genertors , almost like large pots with lids that are bolted on powered by an lpg  gas burner , at a steam bath place in town .

Has anyone seen something like this for sale ? Or know someone who could make one ? Probably from stainless

I live in Hang dong , any adice much appreciated

  2. The winds came up and the PM10 levels dropped like a rock so I got out for a mountain bike ride in the hills east of Mae Rim today. Unless you get out there, you don't know the extent of the local burning. You can ride for a 100 kilometers on these trails and this is what you will see. There were still stumps smouldering and all that smoke drifted into Chiang Mai over the last two days. Virtually all the forests in Northern Thailand are burned every year to induce mushroom growth or to clear more farm land. I talked with a red ant egg gatherer last week on these same trails and I expect he was the same person that lit the fires so he can harvest mushrooms when the rainy season comes. There is zero education or enforcement of burning laws as Thailand has bigger fish to fry, so don't expect any changes until a weather system pushes the smoke out like today. It was great to get a ride in during the smokey season where I normally hide in filtered air.

Totally agree with Tdog , I live out on the Samorng rd , they burn here everyday , a local guy told me yesterday, not to worry, it's natural smoke , won't do u any harm!!!

I also rang the number to report fires, they told me if I was concerned I should go and help them put out fires

It's a lost cause the only solution is to move

  3. From my own observations living in a very rural part North of CM - I don't see much burning in the fields. If there was any rice residue to be burnt off, it would have been done in January and Feb - not now. The problem was not evident earlier in the year. This leads me to the conclusion that it is the spontaneous high temperature fires in the hills that is the major problem. I look round at all the fires burning in the hills, and it's quite dramatic, especially at night. Some of these spots are pretty inaccessible, so I don't think they are induced by man. There is talk of some hill fires being started to encourage underground mushroom (morels); but I don't think this is significant.

What is interesting is that these hill fires don't cause much damage, it's just the undergrowth that burns, not the trees. In other parts of the world, similar forest fires are a major problem, just doesn't seem to be a problem here, apart from the haze. So, in response to the OP, talking won't do any good, as it's near impossible to deal with the spontaneous hill fires, (guesstimate 90 %?). Like the bovine manure suggestion that Moo Katah braziers in the city contributed to the haze. It's just a natural occurrence, so learn to live with it, 'Mai pen rai' or in Chiang Mai, 'Bor ben Yang'.

I also live outside of cm , and I can tell u 100% these hill fires are started for mushroom growth.

I have just been on the Mae Hong song loop and seen fires everywhere, whole mountains in Pai on fire and all started deliberately

Nothing will change the local government do nothing, the police r too busy in the town collecting money from motorbike riders to go and arrest fire starters

Local people just take this as a natural occurrence

You can learn to live with it if u like , but I will leave this city asap

  4. Haven't got a clue what is in the constitution , I'm just saying this is like a merry go round , it's the same story going round and round, I don't care who has control of the pot , we r just guests here, none of us have any rights , I would love to see some proper political campaign's leading up to an election , where both sides put forward what they can do for the country, but that will never happen , corruption runs through this country at every level, and to think the army will stamp it out , with a few parties , writing songs , moving a few people around,

    Is a joke

Suddenly everyone thinks the men in green r beyond corruption !!!!!

  5. There seems to be a lot of posters here with blinkers on,

I couldn't care less who runs the country yellow or red, but let's face facts , which anyone who has been here for a while, will realise, there r 2 sides that hate each other, and they will do anything to win and not lose face, everybody has a chosen side , the courts , the army etc etc all the way to the top, suthep will not have any problems with the courts , their on his side as is the army , the democrats will be put back into power

  6. I agree with u , I'm sure Thailand's neighbours have a lot to do with our pollution problems , but they need to do something about their own country , the back of Doi Sutep is only a 30-40 min drive from town and they can't even stop the burning their , let's face it they do nothing , I can see 2 fires burning now , and it's daytime , they burnt almost all the hills in my area , and it's all so they can harvest mushrooms, I'm sure I read somewhere the government had allocated 20 million , to stop the burning,

    Wonder what's happened to that!!

And no I would not like to move nearer to the town , even though I can see the fires I think the pollution is worst in the town itself , than anywhere else

  7. I live behind Doi Sutep , their burning right now , some nights I can see fires on Doi Sutep hundreds of meters long , they do this for a better mushroom harvest , the local government do absolutely nothing , a few signs around saying stop burning , with the picture of some politician , it's a joke to say this is coming from china lap Burma
