So you want to see thailand more tolerant towards underage sex offenders ?This thread seems to have less to do with child prostitution and everything to do with being a holier-than-thou wowser. Some truly inspiring responses here - 'bulldoze Cowboy', 'demolish Pattaya' - it would be fascinating to see just how many Farang would be left in Thailand if some of you had right of refusal at Swampy ....
Personally, I detest smoking - can we add smokers to the list of people who wont be allowed in ? Please ? What's that - you enjoy the odd cigarette ? You filthy, filthy bastard - I bet you wear socks with sandals too
Many of us love Thailand because it is so tolerant, but a lot of what I see on TV is 'no - I want some order in this chaos !'. My suggestion is that you move to Singapore ASAP.
Hear, hear, yeah, tolerance for violent sex offenders. As we all "know", at least according to modern western authorities, now murder is a crime of passion and wanking off to kiddy porn is a crime of violence. George Orwell would just shoot himself if he could hear us now. I totally agree with Mr. Worldwide. Is it possible to be tolerant of everything except what you are intolerant of.

Sick country and sick tourism.
"Shut everything down"? Pattaya, Patong, Bangkok ect.
I think I read somewhere that the sex trade is estimated at US$ 4.3 billion per year or about three percent of the Thai economy.Shocking Yes.. surprising NO !
It's about time they shut Pattaya down..
You tell me which politician wants to shut Pattaya down?
(I acknowledge that the sex trade is in every town in every province).
And, where, do all the Falangs and Expats find their "Big Love"? On the rice field?
About 10-15 years ago I was reading, it was estimated at that time that the Isaan Sex workers,
send, bring about $ 280.000.000.- (280 Million Dollar) home to their Isaan families) more as the Thai Authorities, sent to Isaan at the same period.
Please not ask me now for a LINK.
Not forget all the houses, land purchases, Pick Ups, cars and Motor Bikes only existing in Isaan,
(Mixed race children to!) because of the "(in)famous" Red Light Districts in TH
I know what I am talking about from experience!
Where is Chalerm when you need him?
Probably wobbling around with his ear medicine and fear of going south.
There is truth in what you post.
Sex trade is universal; they don't call it the world's oldest profession for no reason. When I worked in Riyadh Saudi Arabia, maybe the most conservative close-minded place on the planet, they had an active but hidden sex trade. Funny thing was you couldn't see a woman hardly anywhere in public, but they had an open street walking area for gays, go figure.

unfortunately it happens time to time , that is the sad reality of Thailand , greedy pedophile foreigners and poor people . Good action from the Labor Right Promotion Network Foundation.
Do you mean that it only happens in Thailand and not in other European or Western countries?
Actually, the USA is No. 1 in the world. When you think about all the headlines here about sex, it seems to mostly be westerners. I'm sure there predilections only exist when they travel, never in their own countries.

If its factual that Thailand gets more tourists than the other 4 countries combined, then Thailand should rightly think about how to keep this advantage and expand on it. Any other expressed concerns would be diplomatic chitchat. One rule trumps all _"follow the money"

Would a Thai lawyer be of any help. I used Siam Legal for a business visa and I think most of the fee was because they have "contacts". Might be worth a call. Also, from my experience South American embassies are a bit standoffish, this is one of the reasons a North American or EU passport is so valuable, i.e. the support behind it.

We have seen the enemy and he is us.There maybe some validity in what the OP is saying, lets face it Thailand has large numbers of foreign retiree's, hanger's on and wannbee's where as places like Singapore dont, the vast majority of expats in Singapore, HK etc are working there with reputable companies, therefore there would be a tendancy for there to be more undesirables in Thailand just based on numbers.Based on my own observations of 10 years here and in comparision with other countries I have lived, worked in, Thailand does seem to have a lot more "damaged" , bitter, resentful, chip on their shoulder type expats floating around than I have seen on other places
And of course all of these expats from singapore and hk will end up in Thailand like other strugglring scums
sent from-would like to know

Well, I'm not bitter or resentful, but proudly damaged. Maybe the cost of living attracts the more transparent expats. I have never found a tremendous difference in rich v poor, except the rich is better at hiding their true nature. Food for thought or ammunition for a good bash??

Very well saidIn asking why there are so many third gender in Thailand, we can't avoid asking why there are so few in western society, especially considering that according to decades of anthropological research, nearly all pre-westernized cultures considered them to be a normal gender variation and included them in all aspects of society with respect. The western mind, for the last 1,500 years or so, has been trained to perceive phenomenon in terms of pairs of opposite poles...dualistic thinking. In this way of thinking, male and female are polar opposites and the only choices. Gay and strait are seen as polar opposites also. The dominant western language (English) is a reflection of this polarized perceptual handicap....us/them, mind/body, human/nature...all perceived as seperate and opposing. It's a language of division and conflict, Of dominance and submission, and a grossly incomplete vision and way of mediating reality. It narrows our perception of reality to black and white, right and wrong. It's the language of exclusion and war.
The eastern mind has a very long tradition of seeing the whole spectrum of phenomenon. In the spectrum of a day there is night, day, dusk, and dawn. Where exactly does night end and day begin? At exactly what point does day stop and night start? Those points don't exist. The spectrum of gender is the same...there are the polar extremes of hypermale and hyperfemale, and there is a wide spectrum of degrees in between (the extreme poles are the minority). Same with the spectrum of sexual orientation...there is exclusively gay and exclusively straight, and a wide spectrum of degrees in between these poles that have been rigidly enforced in the west, just as the extreme polarities of gender have been institutionalized and enforced in the western mind and society. Eastern thought has traditionally cultivated a conscious inclusive accepting awareness of what exists between the poles. In between the poles of black and white lies a rich spectrum of colors that contribute to a balanced life and society. These values are reflected in thailand's live and let live attitude toward the "third gender" and gay people. Let's hope that in Thailand's pursuit of westernization this sanity is preserved.

Okay, that works for me, thanks.

NO, I meant ask some of the young ones. I am sure more than a few have considered what they would do as they are older.

Has anyone ever bothered to ask a few ladyboys? Or would this be considered rude?
