Went to the US Consulate today for my income verification letter. The officer asked the source of my retirement funds and I told him. We discussed my previous employer for a few seconds and then he asked if I had proof of retirement funds. I told him "not with me". I asked if this was a new policy and he laughed and replied, "I ask 1 out of 7 people that come in here for these and today you win the lottery". He laughed, handed me my paper and asked me to sign and swear.
Change in policy? Who knows? But it is interesting.

Chiang Rai....new immigration office, plenty of parking, plenty of places to sit...in and out in 20 minutes or less. No queue.

Concerning immigration...I was in Mae Sai earlier in the week and the immigration office confirmed they will no longer be coming to Central Plaza in Chiang Rai on the first Saturday of each month.
Reason? Because the NEW immigration office in Chiang Rai opened this Monday - January 27th. They will be handling all immigration matters with no need to go to Mae Sai immigration except for work permits. For some reason you will still have to go to Mae Sai immigration on matters dealing with work permits.

My experience at the Udon Thani immigration office (TM30)
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
This same issue came up when visiting the Immigration Office in Phayao. We recently returned from Vietnam and had to submit a TM30 because we stayed overnight in Chiang Mai. We asked the IO if I made a border run to Mae Sai in 90 days (I have a non-o visa) and returned to the same residence in the same day would we have to submit a new TM30? The answer was a resounding "yes and within 24 hours." So, as usual, the interpretation of the law is up to the IO you are asking and/or the office you are using.
