  1. There's been ever increasing amounts of kidnapping in KL recently, most notably in the northern suburbs and expat areas especially targetting oil workers. Both places are nasty; KL slightly better in some ways but neither great. I chose BK, wish I had chose KL but will be returning to HK or China soon as they are both heaps and bounds better than both KL or BK.

Thanks very much for that. I'd never heard about kidnappings in KL before. I'll Google it and try to learn more.

What I hate about Thailand is that the mediocrity never stops. I won't give political details because I'm sure you know what I mean.

Is your wife Muslim? My wife is a Yala Muslim. Yala is in the far south, but the incidents there are not as bad as all the horrible news that's been coming out of Pattani. We both want to go somewhere safer and better for our children.

I agree that HK is better. And Singapore too. But my wife and I don't have too much money for expensive houses or apartments.

Checkout Indonesia, Yogyakarta, central Java, thinking about moving back there. $50 a week will get you a nice 3 bed house.

  2. ...

She met him at a swingers club we used to attend.

I suppose now that you're swinging on your own you'll be spending more time at the driving range.

Next time, maybe join a putting club rather than a swinging club.

I'll leave the vulgar and smutty innuendos for others...

We have a saying in Oz, "Come in spinner."
  3. Silly to buy an ipad2 when the ipad3 is only a bit more expensive. 16gb ipad3 16,500 baht. Better to buy from the official stores than take the risk to save 2,000 baht.

  4. my idea is to start building some small pieces of modern style western furniture out of real wood during my holidays there and giving it to my ladyfriend to sell, the first pieces will be a gift to her which she can attempt to sell and see if there is a viable market in her area so no issues about visa, licences etc at first, after perusing the visa laws, forbidden jobs and causing ourselves no end of headaches i decided to ask here after reading about people suggesting ways around certain aspects of the strict laws governing foreigners living and working in thailand.

My thai ladyfriend and i like each other quite a lot and i am trying to find a way utilising the skills i have learned in my life to be able to live with her in thailand should the relationship develop that far

Yes i do trust her, if i manage to start this business, she couldnt do it without me anyway (in the beginning) she is a very good cook and thai language teacher and also an accountant but she cant tell the back from the front of a router or circular saw.

    Just do it.

Don't listen all the hoo hah on here from the anal brigade.

I know plenty of people that do things work wise and have so for years.

Unless you piss someone off, you will have no issues and keep it quiet, anyone asks each and everytime you are building it for yourself, for your home etc.

Do it the way you want to start, slow and easy and quiet and you will be fine and it is a good way to quietly enter the field and also suss out the girl over an extended period of time.

    Ignore the doom and gloom.

  5. I wish to advise all members, too many to notify personally, that I hereby resign as President and resign my membership of the club of which I am founding member. My wife just left me for an oil worker whose income is 10 times greater than mine. Goodbye all. Croweater.

    Condolences/congratulations delete as applicable

How long were you together? Has she been "stepping out" with this fellow unbeknownst to you or was this a Facebook type smash n grab?

Sent from Android, please excuse errors in type or judgement.

  6. On the bus or train the curtains will be shut to keep out the sun,

so you will not see much along the way.

Maybe better to rent a car and drive yourself, then you can stop off on the way

    when the fancy takes you.

  8. It's one of the sub forums were we move topics that are more related to fun and daily expat life (sometimes not so fun). Topics that are not specifically oriented to any one forum.

  9. I just got a new Ipad (3) for 16.5k at Numchai 2 weeks ago. I prefered the wifi version as i can make a hotspot on my phone and use it everywhere with my datapackage from AIS smile.png

Is it a dinkum 3? Been to tukcom and Festival today, 22K.
  10. Tukcom also has an official Apple store, as does Central Festival. Not a bad place to buy one, especially with all the VERY good copies running around.
