  1. Crossy,

I would recommend that you talk to any of the local bus companies.

I believe their horns are designed to be heard far enough up the road to allow the potential passengers to get out of bed, get dressed, have breakfast and still make the bus.

  2. Buddhafly,

I don't know the exact name (a google should find it) but there is a Classic Motor Club in Thailand who have regular rallys and shows, a number of them have older American cars (reminents of the Vietnam days).

Contact them and I am sure they can steer you in the right direction.

A resurrected 65-66 Impala would be a sweet ride.

  3. I saw an article in the bk post about Ford pickups there seems to be a fault with the 5th gear cog a few owners are having a bad time with ford over this,, something to do with the poor standerd of metal used

    Colino,

An chance of a link to that article or and idea of what date it was published, did several google's on it but came up empty.

  4. he already used his judgment. he never met her and he felt her possievness and yet chooses to say he understand it.

Judging by your 2 posts it is obvious that you have overdosed on antagonism pills, You might try reading the OP's entire text and not just cherry picking..................., The OP's quote:

"I was somewhat taken back at the sense of posessiveness she demonstrated, but after I read more, I understood it, we talked about it and we reached an understanding about where we are headed in our relationship, and she is more at ease now."

Seems to me that they are doing what should be done and that is discussing issues before they become a problem. It would appear that it was more an issue of her insecurity manifesting itself in possessiveness.

My guess is that you have burns and scar tissue from previous bad relationships and are feeling so lonely that you find a need to drum up some companions in misery.

Get over it and move on...........or move off to another forum.

  5. puter has ethernet card and also I possess a double ended LAN cable, problem is connecting the modem to the router as stated in my OP.

Thanks for the effort to help.

My Zyxel 630-C1 ASDL modem has a USB 2.0 connector at the end of the output cable and my router is configured with ethernet ports only. How do I adapt the modem cable to ethernet. The modem has a funny looking female connector (kind of square with a large rectangular centering pin) on it so changing out the cable is not the easy answer (or is it?). Is there an adapter to convert the USB to ethernet?

Thanks in advance to all the techies of the world :o

So why not put a 400 baht ethernet adapter card in your computer?

Then just a double ended LAN cable.

  7. You may be onto something, I had accessed it thru our company CITRIX network via Australia, will try it from my TTT JInet connection at home and see if my results match yours.

Sometimes it is unavailable whilst they are updating the days new stories.

I am sitting here and Pattaya City News is permanently non-available on the ISP TT&T MaxNet

However I can see that the Pattaya City News website is working fine when viewed via the US

  8. Melonf,

Just entered the website with no probs. You may want to thrust your lower lip out in a more pronounced pout. :D Thats what did it 4 me. :o

Glad to hear that PCN will be back from Monday..........news is the breath of knowledge (Pattaya_Fox 2007) :D

Well it's Wednesday yet I still cannot reach www.PattayaCityNews.net on my TT&T MaxNet service

However bizarrely the daily stories are being reported on Google News, so the website is viewable elsewhere

    What is going on?

  9. Have not seen one in Thailand yet but it is supposed to be available with a 5 sp. tranny like Ford is offering. That could make for an easy-to-drive and smooth ride.

From the writeup below, it sounds like a nice set of wheels.

On the inside, Frontier Navara combines the comfort and command seating of an SUV with technology more associated with a luxury sedan. The Frontier Navara is the first pickup truck in Thailand to feature a six-speed manual transmission in addition to the available five-speed automatic gearbox. Both can be mated to the powerful common-rail diesel engine. The YD25DDTi Common-rail Turbo Intercooler delivers an industry-leading 174 hp and maximum torque of 403 Nm. The pickup features electronic-controlled 4WD system with Limited Slip Differential (LSD) providing “Shift-on-the-Fly” 4WD function. It enables to shift between 2WD and 4WD with the use of a dial without stopping. And LSD automatically applies brakes and the best traction. Also it features an appealing comfortable interior with exceptional quietness, ride feel and handling. It uses the same durable concept frame as the US’s Nissan Titan, full-size truck. And it is equipped with hinged double door for easy “Open cab utility” operation.

The Nissan Frontier Navara is manufactured at the Bangna Trad plant located about 20 kilometers east of Bangkok. The all-new Nissan Frontier Navara will be available from Friday, January 26 at all Nissan dealerships across the country.

  10. There are a lot of suggestions and solutions to you problem but the the bottom line cure is that the computer case needs a path to a properly installed earth, there are no ways around this.

Now, the reason you are constantly getting zapped is because you have become the earth path for the computer chassis earth. This is generally thru your bare feet sitting on a conductive floor or making physical contact with a metal desk or chair at the same time as touching the appliance.

While you are sorting out which of the suggested permenent methods to implement, place a mat or carpet under your feet (rubber compounds are best, like the mats in your car) which will eliminate those pesky shocks until you get a proper fix. Something as simple as wearing shoes can prevent the shocks.

NOTE that this is only a temporary band aid and should never be considered as the final fix. You are not eliminating the source of the electrical leakage, you are only eliminating your body from becoming the path of an electrical circuit.

  11. Farma,

Try the Home Pro franchise if there is one in Ubon, the Ptty store has a pretty good selection of DeWalt.

Don't happen to be a Mat Kenseth fan by chance?

If you can't find it there, give me a shout and I can probe from this end.

I’ve been slowly building up my tool collection too. I’m trying to stick with Bosch professional. I’ve got hammer drills, circular saw, angle grinder and a few others.

I’m away working most of the time and apart from drilling the odd hole in a wall for picture hooks the relatives get to use them more than I do.

So far the relatives have used my tools to do the shop fittings in 3 of our shops and build 2 houses so I’m getting value out of the tools. They look after them and replace grinder discs etc if used on jobs that don’t involve my buildings.

I also bought a cheap Clinton brand hammer drill 4 years ago and that still works.

I’m looking for a DeWalt dealer in Ubon so I can replace the 110v battery charger on a cordless hammer drill. Has anyone seen one?

  12. I am wondering who is doing all the investigating and legwork required to develop the list of these 'special' customers not to mention absorbing the costs incurred;

    BOT??????

    the individual finacial institutions??????

    the current regime????????

    Me thinks NOT

IMO it is just another case of the toothless barking dog or heaven forbid, a fiasco similar to the recent drug traffic purge/persecution.

  13. Foreign investors less attentive to Thai property market

"However, we believe the situation will ease and uncertainties will end soon. This, coupled with the stability of the government's polices and economic stimulus through an interest rate cut, will help restore investor confidence and make the property market recover this year," she said.

Sorry, couldn't help it, I feel much better now, carry on....................................... :bah:

  14. Briggsy, we thank you for your monochrome and myopic viewpoint of our home, hope it chases a few more away. :D

Oh BTW...........................you and others with similar views are totally off base but thats OK. :o

    Dr Adrian

Ask yourself one question. Don't put the answer on the forum

    "Are you into whores?"

Answer = yes: go to Pattaya Answer = no: go to Hua Hin, Ko Phangan, Chiang Mai etc

  15. There are locks available for tailgates, not sure how they work but have seen them advertised.

The biggest downside of these types of covers IMO is the room taken up by the lifting mechanism. A 4 door truck bed is small to begin with and some of the mechanisms I have seen take up 25% of the load bed.

I opted for the full cab height cover as it offers much better security when transporting goods. When fully raised to carry anything taller than the box, the low profile cover must remain open exposing everything inside.

The back lid of the full cover locks tightly against the tailgate prohibiting it from opening.

  16. I totally agree with Crossy. Modern autotrans are designed to be thrown away & not repaired (generally, they are not repairable). They can't take as much of a hiding as a fully serviceable manuel trans can. Give me a clutch & gear stick anyday...gives you better control over your vehicle.

I feel I must step in on behalf of the humble automatic transmision,

I would be the first to agree they can be as unreliable as a Pattaya bart buss drivers verbal contract, but it's not fair to say there weak, I remember the Corvette stingray manual transmission, the clutch just couldent handle the power, one desent burnout and it was history.

Land rover, there's another manual box load of <deleted>, Even JCB are now auto, many of the old JCB's used to shear off the mainshaft like a carrot if you went too hard into a pile of dirt, the new ones with the torque multiplication of the autobox are much stronger.

Will toss my hat into the auto ring as well, have only experienced auto troubles once when I made the mistake of buying an old telephone company truck. The reliability is there as is the low maintenance as long as it is not abused (true of anything mechanical). The 5 speed auto in the Ranger coupled to the 3l commonrail impressed me greatly, it is a tried and proven tranny as it is the same one found in the Explorer.

The early auto's in the 70's had problems with bands needing adjustment but have not heard of that problem for decades. I would much rather change my tranny fluid from time to time than have to replace clutch plates and throwout bearings.

Undercover, give it a test drive, I think you will be impressed.

  17. It usually takes a little while for the rings to seat properly so it is a good idea to go somewhat easy on a new engine.

    Hi Jamie,

It was my impression that with the new metals, the improved lubrication and much tighter tolerances that the seating of the rings was not an issue any more. Note that this is only my opinion and I could be totally off base on this. Still agree that one should take it a bit easy for the first 500+ miles to allow everything to 'loosen up' as Crossy has experienced.

I also have a new Ranger and have received the same info as Crossy regarding 'break in' procedures.

BTW.........what part of WI are u in, I was GB born and northern (Minocqua) raised. This Badger has dug a new burrow in LOS as I found the winter hibernation in WI to be too cold and too long. Pass me another Pabst please.

  18. How to paint outside house shades.

Actually quite easy, start with a dark colored paint and for each shade mix in some white paint. :o

Shades should be painted horizontally for tall buildings and vertically for short buildings or for a more wild animalistic look, do them horizontally in a haphazzard pattern.

    :D:D

  19. I was hit last night by an ATM hacker to the tune of 40k. Coincidently this morning there was something regarding the apprehension of an individual (I think Sri Lankan) who had hacked into banking computers to appropriate information useful in his nocturnal ATM activities. At the time I did not pay much attention to the news as I had yet to discover my loss.

Does anyone out there have any additional info on the apprehension? As of right now my bank is blaming me for the loss and I would like to gather data that would indicate it was the bank who was at fault which could aid me in recovering my losses.

  20. Asking for a detailed pricing for work is SOP and not a face loss issue in my book. A 'face saving' option would be to provide materials and only pay for the labor costs.

I've had a second thought on my suggestion to ask for a breakdown of material costs....this could make the contractor lose face so you might want to reconsider how making this request might affect your relationship with him or her......up to you.
