  1. Can somebody help with what I did wrong. I have a multi non o marriage rom savannakhet which I got July last year. My 2nd 90 day entry expired last week so I went just before to CW to extend for the extra 60 day but was refused and only offered 7 days. I spoke to a few other officers afterward to confirm and they all said the same thing. Only 7 days extra allowed. I quickly had to arrange a flight out and back. Any ideas?

I admit I know nothing about UK healthcare, but I know plenty about Canadian healthcare. The doctors and hospitals will do everything in their power to save a life regardless of cost. In Thailand, they won't even give you painkillers if you're dying of cancer unless you pay.

I have a good insurance here, but there is no way in hell I will fight with them here when I'm old if something serious comes up. They will always refuse to pay and make excuses.

My ex-wife's friend died of cancer in her early 30's here. She had insurance because she worked in the same company as my wife. A very big German international company connected to BTS project. The company is great, but Thai insurance apparently isn't as they didn't pay for treatment. What to say?

You obviously don't have very good insurance if they always find a way not to pay.

I actually DO have very good insurance here (approx 8k baht a month for me, wife, child) and in almost 10 years and many many claims the insurance company have never refused to pay.

You need to look at different insurers, seems like you are getting ripped off.

  3. Just an update, i eventually decided to go with expatprimetv and really happy with them so far. No buffering issues and whilst the channel selection isn't as good as pulsetv (no premium sky sports / movies channel etc) the selection is still pretty ok for what you pay. 400 baht per month

They also offer a free set top box (you have to pay shipping costs though).

I feel for you.  I'd be lost without my Pulse. Are you using wi-fi or a cable.  I have two Pulse boxes, and the one that connects via wi-fi has more buffering, but only in the evenings. The other one is fine pretty much all of the time.  A few years ago we used True Online and the buffering was worse.  Since moving to AIS it's been fine.

I'm currently only wifi through my pc. I got it wifi only to start with so I could test it with a view to getting the set top box after a month. But with my having so many issues I'm just really not sure I want to fork out the 4500 for the box in the hope it might work better.

I've tried everything because when it works its a great service. I switched from True to AIS in the hope they might be better but still the same problems ????

I'm surprised you've been having problems with PulseTV.  I've been a subscriber for over 3 years (two boxes running simultaneously) and buffering is very rare.  The problem is likely to be your internet connection.  I have you checked the speeds?

Yes my speeds are ok. Maximum in my condo bldg is 50 mbps downloads speed, i've checked the speeds and i'm always over 40 mbps. I spoke to pulse and they say i need only 14 mbps to have buffer free streaming so i really don't understand why i have such a problem. Don't get me wrong sometimes it is ok but then sometimes it's almost unwatchable.

I pesonally find it so pointless when a TV package advertises 17000 channels or similar. It takes longer to choose which channel from which country via which server you are going to use, than it does to watch the actual program.

Similar thing with VPNs which say 3000 servers in 500 countries. I only want one so I can watch UK TV, or you for your own country.

Express VPN on my normal PC gives me the ability to watch any UK or USA channel, some with catch up ie iPlayer or ITV Hub, or the footie on NBCSports via ustvgo.tv.

Yes , to be honest, a provider offering thousands of channels is more a minus than a plus for me. I'd rather have something similar to what pulse-tv offers which is a good but select choice

Are you looking for live TV only or need catch-up too?

This looks like a good option for live streaming (seems to work well in BlueStacks emulator too) https://livenettv.bz/

For a paid option I've been recommended this for USD 70 per year including catch-up on 700 channels. I have NOT tried it yet.

Yes live tv with a catch up option would be great. Will look into this one thanks

  8. Hey all,

Could anyone advise on what the best options for expat tv packages are, including set top box and or just streaming?

I signed up to PulseTV about a month ago and really like their channel selection but there is just too much buffering for me and even though I have tried everything to solve it (including changing internet providers) I just cannot get a steady reliable feed. I also know of TVmucho but they appear to  be having similar buffering problems.

Any other good alternatives anyone can recommend?

    Cheers

  9. When i did my 60 day extension the IO officer went through all the documents i would need for the 1 year extension and they included

proof of ownership for the condo I rent

copy of tabien baan of condo owner

My landlord is very helpful but they have lost their tabien baan and apparently it could take over a month to get a replacement.

Any ideas what i should do, just risk it and go without?

How do you log on to LexiaCore5?

The app is asking for a valid teachers e-mail.

No reply from lexiacore customer support so maybe its just a tool for schools to use. But one to definitely try is nessy uk , quite cheap and very fun and easy to use. My son really likes it and it has great reviews , time will tell how much it improves his reading

I have the same question. Doesn't seem to be any way of signing up to a plan either. I've sent their customer service an email, will let you know when i get a reply

About ten years ago, I studied Thai language from a Thai teacher who had a masters degree in education from a top Thai university and had taught in Thai elementary schools for several years, before switching to teaching reading and writing to adult foreigners.  We marveled at how the Thai language has so many characters in its alphabet that are so similar with just a little twist to the end of the character making them different -- พ ผ   ค ด   ช ซ  And to make it even more difficult, there is no space between the words!  Some of the guys told the teacher they had dyslexia and had to work very hard to learn to read in English and Thai was even more difficult.

The teacher was understanding and reflected back to her days of teaching Thai school children.  She said they were taught nothing about dyslexia in university and that she and other teachers would label children who had problems learning to read as lazy or dumb.  She had never heard of dyslexia until she started to teach Thai reading and writing to foreigners, so she educated herself about it and wished they had taught it to her as part of her university education so she could have helped the children instead of labeling them as poor students.

If the OP's child is learning to read in Thai, it's even more difficult than English.

Thanks for the reply. Yes my son is also learning thai as he is in a thai/english billingual school. He is struggling with his reading/writing in thai also but i wouldn't say it's any worse than his English.

It's just very challenging getting help here in Thailand. Back in the uk there are systems in place to help children like this and his school would be at the forefront of getting him the help he needed.

His school here, whilst sympathetic, are not offering any real solutions. Any help you look for outside of his school is going to cost money and a lot of it from what i can tell.

He is specifically looking for assessment of possible dyslexia, not sure this app is appropriate for that.

OP I suggest these 2 places, though I don't know the cost

If you cannot afford private assessment, go to the child development clinic of a major teaching hospital. Waits will be long and uncomfortable but cost will be a fraction of the private services.

    Thanks Sheryl

Go online or your app store and search for LexiaCore5.  This computer aided instructional tool will provide a placement assessment and then provide highly effective instruction.   Have him use this for for 30 minutes daily.  You can provide supervision, mainly insuring attention to task and encouragement. The program is fun for students and rewarding.

i looked at this and it sounds good so will give it a try. Thanks for the recommendation

  15. Hey all

My child is 8 years old and has always struggled with his reading. I thought he was maybe just a case of some kids pick things up quicker than others and it would eventually click but although he is getting better he is quite far behind where he should be for his age.

I've looked into dyslexia and he does seem to have a few of the classic symptoms and i think i should look towards getting him assessed for it.

I have spoken to his school (thai private billingual school) and whilst they agree i should have him assessed they don't provide an assessment and suggested i speak to his doctor, which seemed a bit odd to me.

I looked online and there was a place that popped up 'littlesproutscentre' in bangkok but they have quoted me 38,000 for an assessment which takes 3 hours. whilst i do want to get my son help and expect it cost money that just seems way over the top expensive.

Does anyone have any experience with this and can point me in the direction to get some help

    Many thanks

  16. Any idea what Richard Barrow is on about in his latest tweet ....

Please note, if you’re on a visa that has expired, it’s very important that you get it cancelled now. You are NOT on “visa amnesty” until you do that

This is the first i've heard of anything like this? All the info so far states that amnesty covers all expired visas and there is no need to do anything

Do you know what he means

    Many thanks

Kind of blows your theory out of the water !!!

Anyone with an ounce of common sense can see that this virus does NOT spread as easily in hot and humid climates, otherwise Thailand would have been in the situation Italy is now in about 6 weeks ago.

Early scientific research is finding this to be the case....
