  1. This is akin to a problem that has bothered me now for years over here. These so called "Super Stores" always have restocking crews working in he daytime, or open hours. They have crews running fork lifts with pallets of merchandise raised far in excess of 3 metres, and all done while there are shoppers slipping in and out and under in order to pick out some wanted item. Why do they allow these stocking crews to work around customers? In a civilized country these stores have stocking crews working during closed hours. Other than company greed and/or complete disregard for the people who these stores want to bring in their money, there is no other reason to do stocking during open hours. If an item is in such hot demand that sufficient amount cannot be stocked on the sales floor, at least move more in on a single height pallet , pulled by hand lift.

Something like this or worse was/is just an event bound to happen, and will continue until more logical heads take some action.

I say forego the shopping carts and just give all the customers a forklift of their own to go shopping with.

Now that a great Thai-like ideeee

Huge lines of fork lifts at the front door....all customers zooming around the store...... and then someday when better manners are learned, they can go around and say " sorry , didn't mean to fork you"

How bad is this, the guy was carrying. A knife, ??? Who in there right mind would carry a knife ???

I know a few things annoy us here, but it ain't worth confronting any of them, you just never know.....

Hope the guy makes a full recovery....

I carry a knife with me everyday. Have done for the last 40 odd years. Obviously don't take it on planes with me, but will have one available at my destination place of work. Habitual I suppose.

He is a butcher after all, but the question would be what would he want with one doing massages?

To be clear, I don't carry a knife for self protection or to cause injury to others.

You dont have to bring a knife on the plane . Everyone gets one with the meal coffee1.gif

  3. ATM machines really have many million?

May be incident happened too early in the morning and author is little confused

Individual customers can regularly take our 50,000 to 100,000 from a single ATM, providing they do not exceed their daily amount. Ten to twenty of these customers will withdraw a total of one million baht.

An ATM has to be able to service hundreds, if not thousands, of customers before it has to be refilled, so, yes, an ATM has to contain banknotes in the multi millions...!!

sorry but not correct scib has atm limits to prevent this - check daily withdrawal limits and post again - somebody is covering a deficiency me thinks.

Your the one who's wrong, i have a limit i can withdraw from a ATM daily 200.000 BTH. I use SCB

    Me too ..

  4. I will say that the Thai Meteorological Dept. website has been VERY inaccurate about their daily high predictions. For the past few weeks, it has been consistently low by 3 degrees or so. However, their (every 3 hour) updates are usually accurate, and I often use those to gauge which aircons I need to fire up for the day around the house.

Even Yahoo local weather service has been more accurate than this, and also the one on my Samsung mini tablet.

Having said that, yes it has been hot, along with some other strange weather such as the crazy wind storms two days ago.

I use this one . It is Norwegian but covers the world . It is quite accurate :)http://www.yr.no/place/Thailand/

  5. Also most top loaders are cold water washing machines.

A decent front loader hot water machine cost at least 3x more compared to the cold water ones so most Thai buy the cheap ones.

It's difficult to get stains like grease or blood out of clothes with cold water.

I think some of the detergents are formulated to work in cold water and look for words like oxy-clean, oxy-magic -- basically oxygen bleach that does a good job of removing blood, fecal and food stains (even from colored fabrics) if allowed to soak for a time in tepid water. (These words may be written in transliterated Thai on the package) I discovered this type of detergent when we lived here part-time and actually took it back to the U.S. because we didn't have anything like it there, at least at the time.

I don't think you need to be boiling your clothes to get them clean if you have the proper detergents and soak time.

Cold water in Thailand ?? It is normally 24 - 32 degrees C.....

  6. She drives me to distraction with her washing machine quirks.

Putting ridiculous amounts of conditioner in so everything smells nice even though nothing is washed properly and everything has streaks due to cramming the machine full.

Then leaving the washing in the machine for a couple of days to fester before hanging it out.

She will then put the dried clothes in the dirty laundry basket instead of the clean basket and the whole process starts again.

As for ironing....well i do it myself.

It feels good to get this off my chest on here and air my dirty linen in public.

    What's ironing ??????????

I give my washing to lady in shop, she comes to house to pick up and drop off 250 baht for big load. I'll have to ask her if she know's about

    this ironing thingy.

She do good job even socks are smooth and flat

250 bht is 6 big bottles of beer ... Waste of money if you ask me..sad.png

  7. The reason why Thailand has so many ATMs is the same reason why Thailand has so many bars and so many ladyboys: Taking advantage of the foreigner and finding ways to separate him from his money. Thailand ATMs have the highest fees in the world for foreigners. It's a huge money maker for the bank - charging you extremely high fees to access your OWN money!

Sorry. I cannot agree. Just open a Thai bank account and you will not have fees. Or, just continue your Thai bashing if that makes you happy.

Not everyone can open a bank account in Thailand!

Nor do they need to if they are here for a short period of time!

Been here 5 months and tried to open a account with Kbank and was told

I needed to show a one year visa and a one year lease for my housing.

Just try another bank. passport and address is all you need

I live in Takhli ( Nakhon Sawan ) Retired , for several years now . I went with my wife to try to open an acount in my name. We visited 4 different banks in this city and they all said you need a work permit ... That rule came in October last year they said . The only bank who could help me was the SCB , They could open a joint acount with my wife . So that we did . I,m using it to transfer my pension . To avoid those fees the charge thumbsup.gif . 150 bht here and the same amount by visa in Norway 300bht per outtake here

  8. I have the Nikon D 80 . Nikon is a good buy in Thailand ( They are made here )

I'm retiring my SLR Cannon 300D I bought in BKK 10 yrs ago. It had a good life and served me well, before that had top of the line pocket sony. But as technology has gotten so much better I thought that going back to point and shoot might be as good as I need. As I always wanted a Nikon I thought that's what I'd get next ( I love the sound if the shutter) but they don't seem to be rated in the category but the one hand mid-size is with considering and will check them out too on your generous advise.

  9. While we're talking Thai driver's licensees ................I heard several years ago that foreigners can't get a license to drive a vehicle a vehicle with more than 4 wheels and that put a stop to a fantasy I had of converting an old bus into a mobil home [camper]. Any truth to this??

I was at the transport department to get my car and bike lisence renewed for 5 years the other day . I got my wife asking them if it was possible to get a truck lisence . He just smiled at her and said thats just for thai people . Foreigners could not . Protecting their own jobs i guess . thumbsup.gif

  10. I'd buy tools. Most of the tools sold here are made in China crap. The good stuff I've seen at True Value in Pattaya that are probably closest in quality to what you get in the US are priced twice as much as what you'd pay for them at Home Depot.

I also agree with the self locking gate lock if your gates are low like in the US because you can't find them here but Thai burglars would be perplexed at first on how to open the gate but once they figure it out would be very happy. If you have animals its difficult to find good doggy doors too.

The stuff you can get at Bed Bath and Beyond is also way nicer then what you can get here for the same price.

I really like the quality of brass fixtures in the US, be in door hinges, locks, faucets, door knobs, towel hangs, window locks etc. Seeing the price tag of a Baldwin door knob here makes you want to gouge your eyes out in disbelief.

You can by quality tools here at any major Home Pro / Global and Home Mart stores ( Not made in China ) Like : Bosh / DeWalt / Makita / Mactec / Hitatchi , ++++ And the prices are cheap , at least compared to Europe . Have been using all of those branches in terms of wood and iron work. :)
