That seems to be what is experienced when not using Internet Explorer or a browser with an extension to emulate IE.

    What browser were you using?

Yes, I was using edge and then I realized it wasn't Internet Explorer so I used IE and filling it in worked fine but after I submitted that first page nothing happens still. It just goes blank. This is driving me crazy. So close, yet so far. I really don't want to drive to the Immigration office if I don't have to. It ends up taking half a day - after living here 10 years it would be such a treat to do it on-line. I'll keep reading through the thread but it seems like it should work at this point based on what I was reading. Any other ideas, anybody?

  2. Well I just found out about the online form and was so happy but it took a long time to fill it in. It seemed to take a long time to register each keystroke although I was able to cut and paste so that sped it up....after I entered all the info and pressed submit the screen went blank and there was no verification screen. Did it go through? I tried it two other times, one on a different browser, and got the same results. I wish they would upgrade their internet services. Anybody have different/similar experiences? Can you phone to find out if it worked? Any info would be much appreciated.

  3. Yeah "Tourist murdered by being thrown off a balcony - no suspects" Pattaya is a tourist economy mostly. Nobody wants to see that very very very bad for tourism headline. That's the same in every tourist destination. You just have to ask yourself is Pattaya, Thailand the kind of place where they can make that headline go away and one about suicide appear in it's place. When I first got here that would seem ridiculous to me coming from a place where that would be very unlikely. After living in Thailand for 10 years...you have to talk to his closest friends and family and ask what they think the chances of this guy would kill himself. Notice in many western countries that's addressed even if it looks like a suicide.

  4. Sweden is a lovely country with lovely people, but they also have one of the highest suicide rates in Europe. It would seem that they might want to tackle that problem before cutting down on the working hours.

I hope the 6 hour day is successful and catches on other places....like maybe Thailand!

Sweden does not have a particularly high suicide rate. They are only 15 in the OECD and 47 in the world - it's about the same as the USA's. Switzerland, Finland and FRANCE have higher rates to name a few.

This busllshit is always trotted out when people talk about the many successes of it's social democratic post war policies - especially from Americans.

  5. Who in there right mind would travel to Narathiwat province, much easier to cross from Satun province on the boat.

    It's a very dangerous area.

The province has police/army stops that compare to say somewhere like

    Iran.

When the deputy prime minster's son did this trip it was a long time ago

and much easier to get away with then, and he went across through the

    jungle.

He would stick out like a sore thumb as no other white people in the

area, who in there right mind would do this.

Classic bullxxxx story, hard ever to know the truth, but it sounds like a

    story designed too _________

    I wish I could say

Didn't you see the picture? He's has a Swedish passport but is not ethnically Swedish. He could fit in there if he wanted to - he looks middle eastern or Asian....

  6. RisqEM if Thailand is such bad place why are you commenting on this website? Now lets see about your facts and compare them with the world reality. The EU have 11% unemployment and the US +-8% and Thailand > 1%. Thailands GDP growth in 2012 = 6,4% the EU = 0,6% and the US = 0%. In the US 46 mil people rely on government handouts to survive. Lets look at social advancement. In the US 40% of children where born outside of wedlock in 2011. In the US 14% of people are functionally illiterate and in the UK that figure is as high as 18%. Must I go on? Get off your pedestal.

Jesus Christ, comparing Thailand to most western countries is ridiculous. Even using the weakest social models, the US and UK - (due to Thatcher and Reagan etc.) is not even close. In western Europe it's even more pronounced and Canadians (So US would be 8 etc.) live on average 10 years longer - TEN YEARS - that's flabbergasting. It's about 12 years if you compare Japan and you don't just get an extra decade the decline and health issues start later so it's often more than a decade of decent living.

I love Thailand and I love all my friends, but some countries and friends are better off than others but we love them all the same if their ours - but lets not pretend and be deluded what their strong points are and lets be honest about their weak points. Thailand is full of humans so it can be a lot better or even worse - it depends what people do.

  7. oh sure, i realize she might have been a little drunk, but in my experience women of all nationalities enjoy having consensual sex while on a balcony with the guys buddy watching.

in fact most women insist upon it, so much so that i hire a mariachi band most weekends to sernade the three of us as we have at it.

Exactly - you have to be pretty naive or think to think that this wasn't a rape. Ask any cop what she/he thinks happened and they will say 99.9% rape (notwithstanding Thai cops as their pay is so bad they pretty much have to and do take loads of bribes)

  8. She's guilty as sin for selling the fake crap - but this answers my amazement when I first got to Thailand as to how they get away with it day after day - and of course it's that the police just take a bribe so they get away with it. The only way this is going to stop is when the US threatens massive penalties so that the authorities finally do something about it.

  9. Aussies miss target, shoot Phuket tourists

    Tanyaluk Sakoot

In handcuffs, one of the two Australians is questioned after his arrest.

PHUKET: -- Two Australians angry with a Danish man who had not repaid money he had borrowed from them, shot at him last night.

They missed, hitting instead two German tourists passing by on Soi Sansabai in Patong.

Joseph Woerner and Johann Baschegger were hit, one in the arm and the other in the shoulder. They were taken to Patong hospital for treatment.

An hour later police arrested the two Australians, whom they named as Adam Lewis and John Cohw [sic]. The latter owns a tattoo shop in Patong and is accused of firing the gun. A Ruger .45 pistol was seized.

The two told police that the Dane had borrowed B380,000 from them. He had not paid any back and, with interest, he now owed them B1 million.

The Danish debtor has not been found, and is believed to be in hiding.

The two Australians are in custody and undergoing further questioning. Cohw was initially charged with attempted murder and with having a gun in a public place.

A few thoughts. There appears to be a inverse correlation between the number of tattoos and IQ after seeing his photo.

Regarding the amount owed, am a bit surprised to see the loan amount of 380,000 baht zoom up to one million baht.

Man I need to get into the loan business. And who in their right mind would loan money to ANYONE here without having

seizable assets to protect the loan...

Also nice to see the guy had a real gun, a Ruger. Some of the guns the vicious Thai gang bangers on scooters carry look like they would be scary to shoot. Anyway this is bad debt collection, popping off a few rounds in the general direction of the debtor and hitting bystanders. I have a friend who used to collect bad debts for the Hells Angeles. He said he would meet the guy , and immediately break his arm. As the guy is laying on the ground screaming, my friend informed him that unless the debt was paid he would then come back and REALLY hurt him. He said everyone paid........

If the debt collectors in Phuket adapted the same concept it would cut down on tourists being shot. whistling.gif

Thank god it was a Ruger - there would be one dead Dane if it was a proper gun like a Glock.

  10. It's sad how since this happened in Thailand, Thailand gets a bad name for itself and tourists. But if this had happened in the US or anywhere else this wouldn't have even been news.

If this happened in the US a lawyer and a doctors note that you had a stress related "cardiac event" because of the scam and you'd own the company shortly. There are lots of ways you could get your money back and it would be easy to prove and almost impossible for the company to make false claims of delivery. In Thailand you could completely screwed with no repechage...

  11. would have thought he would have left a suicide note somewhere if he planned to do this or maybe a moment of madness implusive dicession who knows.

would have to check his phone i suppose to see if he had any bad news or problems

The clear majority of suicides do NOT leave notes. Studies have shown (and logic would indicate) that there are many reasons why someone would not leave a note and by no means is it always the due to the act being an impulsive one.

Sent from my iPad using ThaiVisa ap

As an ex police officer,I can tell you about 90% of suicides DO leave notes, where do you get your facts, another expert!

It is estimated that 25–30% of suicides are accompanied by a note. According to Gelder, Mayou and Geddes (2005) one in six leave a suicide note. The content can be a plea for absolution or blaming family and friends for life's failings. - "AIM Report: Critiquing Berman's Report on Foster". Accuracy in Media. 2001-06-01.

  12. Too Many Guns unfortunately , but fortunately he was unable to afford the amo .

I think the Farang was rather wise not to press charges , Its really hardly worth it and he may not have been " Just " a Tourist .

Watch those " Beach Girls " Mr Farang . I think you'd be better in the Bars , although the same could still happen ..And maybe next time " Grope " in private . But really its a terrifying thing to have a 9mm Pistol pushed into your head .

Yeah my take on that was that the gun had at least one round chambered but that would be a much bigger offense so the gun got to be "empty" but his GF turns into a prostitute even though that's dubious.(grouping is not something you can get too upset about if your GF is on the game) So the cops kept him out of jail but humiliated him. The farang prolly did as he was told for the greater good.

  13. They obviously have no idea why he died. They are just policemen speculating. i.e. that's a good statistical possibility is about all they have. It was prolly a pill he shouldn't have taken with alcohol is more likely still as he was only 27- the thing about the Thai GF is pure fiction or not - they have no idea. The reporting in Thai papers is about one notch below a good high school paper in the US - and that most emphatically goes for the Bangkok Post as well.

Further, they bar girls are prostitutes so of course they have the 'Give me a dollar to make you holler' policy. Normal middle class Thai girls are just like girls anywhere else for the most part (A tad more immature than in western countries ti be fair)
