  1. I have a 1yr Thai driving licence which has expired by about 11mths does anyone know if I can still renew this licence for a 5yr one?? I know that to get a 5yr licence then your 1yr has to expire first but is there a maximum limit after which you'll have to retake the test again?? Also my 1yr licence was issued in Pattaya but I would like to renew in Bangkok anyone know if thats possible and what documents I'll need??

    Cheers

  2. Try Essensuals in MBK, I think its on the ground floor and its a franchise of Toni and Guy. Mind you its not cheap prices range from 500 to 1200 baht depending on the experience of the stylist. I get my hair cut there every time and never had a problem yet.

  3. Yes I experianced exactly the same thing 'comms failure' with my Lloydstsb ATM card in several different machines about a week ago when in issan. I called the bank thinking they had put a block on it, due to it being an overseas transaction, but to my surprise they said there was nothing wrong with the card or a/c and to try again. So I tried the next day and it worked fine! :o

  4. Generally notebook hard disks have 2 partitions. One for your Operating System (including programs) and one for Data. Making one partion for the OS, one for programs and one for Data as Astral wrote is useless. i.e. the partion for programs. When your OS is damaged, your linking files with programs (on the second partion) will be too.

For this moment you could make two partitions on your unallocated part. The first (D) you make 5 GB and the second (E) 10 GB. You can do that with control panel> administrative tools > disk management in XP.

The 10 GB part you can name Data and is for all data you make or have.

Then you try to find a copy of Partition Magic or similar programs. With that program you can make your (current) C-drive bigger taking space from disk D (the new 5 GB partition).

At the end you'll have one HDD with 2 partitions. Drive C: for OS+programs and drive D: for Data.

    Petch01

ok great i'll try that then, can anyone recommend a good partition program which i can download for free???

    cheers

  5. It is unusual for a computer to be sold without all the disk space allocated.

If you go to My Computer do you see a C: and D: drives in addition to the CD or DVD?

The D: drive will be the rest of you disk.

Otherwise pop down to your local sw shop and pick up a copy of Partition Magic.

This super little product will allow you to set up whatever partitions you need. I have:

    C: Windows o/s

    D: Programmes

    E: Data files

It makes it much easier to reformat the C: drive without loosing every bit of data and Programmes that I have.

No in my computer it just shows C: as 5 Gb hard disk, it sounds silly but i brought the laptop a year ago and was sold it with a 20gb hard disk i have ony noticed now that there is 22Gb unallocated, so do you think i should do what you have done ie use c: just for windows and setup another partition of 22Gb for programs and data files if i do this i dont need partition magic i can just use the windows partition tool cant i? Is it easy to setup a partition as i've never done this before?

  6. Hi, On my laptop my c: drive shows up as being 5.38Gb however when i go into computer management it shows i think that the disk is actually a partition and that i have 22.55Gb unallocated, now what i would like to know is how to allocate this 22.55Gb to my C: as iam running out of space, is it possible to do this and if so how????

    Thanks :o

  7. You need to describe the problem in a little more detail. Perhaps the shop installed XP SP2 installed already? Right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties" and see what is says about your installation.

tywais, it just says windows xp pro 2002

I dont think that it was already installed as windows updates keeps picking it up and telling me i need to install it, however i have downloaded it but when it comes to install an error message comes up cant remember exactly what it said but something like your running an illegal copy of windows and you cant install sp2.

  8. Hi, Iam currently running windows xp pro on my laptop and Iam having problems with installing Service pack 2.

I bought the laptop at Pantip last year and they put a copy version of windows xp on it, I've had no problems whatsoever recieving weekly updates for the last year untill now. Has anyone else had similar problems when trying to install sp2 if so what did you do??

    Thanks

  9. ...

Do you mean you can use your usual sim card in your air card and then put it back in your phone for 'normal' use or do you have to have a sim card dedicated to use in your air card ?

You can do it either way. Many people just use their phone as a GPRS "modem" via bluetooth, USB, or infra-red link, and using the same SIM makes sense. If you're going through the trouble and expense to get a GPRS pc-card, why not get another SIM too, so your phone still works while you are online? Pre-paid SIMs are dirt-cheap here in Thailand, and beyond the initial few hundred baht, it makes no difference if you top up one account or two in terms of cost.

autonomous unit, you say that many people simply use there phone as a gprs 'modem', well this is exactly what I would like to do but i'm not sure how I'd do it. My laptop has infra red but my phone doesnt, and my phone has bluetooth but my laptop doesnt! How do i connect though my usb port?? Do i just go and buy a data cable??

At the moment when i go to isaan i have to travel about 25kms just to go to the internet cafe in town so if i could get a dial up connection through my phone it would be a great help.

    Thanks

By the way my phone is a nokia 7610 with a 1-2 call sim card.

  10. Hi, I have a similar problem as the poster and wondered if there are any other options for getting dial up via a 1-2-call sim card other than this air card, as i'd only need to use it a couple of times a year i cant see the value in spending 75 pounds on an air card.

Is it possible to connect your mobile phone to the laptop via a data cable to dial up??

    Thanks

  11. Sorry to harp on about this...

I’ve had a look at the TAT website which has the names and telephone numbers of the following hotels: Dusit, Imperial, M.J. Sakon and Sakon Grand Palace. Does anybody who has stayed in S.N or who lives in the area have a recommendation of which hotel is the better?

I've stayed at the Imperial before which is in town it was ok, pretty basic room with a/c and hot water and if i rememeber correctly they have a karoke at night. I've heard that the MJ Hotel is a bit better this hotel is also located in town, If i was you i'd try one of these two.

  12. Hello, i'am thinking of driving down from pattaya to Trat in the next couple of days and getting the car ferry over to Koh Chang does anyone know the times of the ferry?? Also could anyone recomend a good hotel to stay at for a few nights some where near the beach and night life??

    Thanks

  13. Hi i will be in Sakon Nakon in the next couple of weeks and would like to know if there is somewhere that i can rent either a car or pick up for a couple of days, i've never seen anywhere b4 does anyone know where and how much i would expect to pay??

    Cheers

  14. I've just got my driving licence from the pattaya office a couple of days ago, and i did not have to do any test whatsoever for my car licence as i already hold a current uk car licence, you just have to fill in a form (which is in thai by the way so make sure you take a thai person with you) and show a photocopy of your current licence. They did not ask to see the paper counterpart which shows your points or whatever so you should get away with it fine.

However i did have to sit both a paper test and a practicle test for my motorcycle licence because it doesnt state on my uk licence that iam entitled to ride a bike.
