  1. Hi..I am here on a multiple 0 visa...married to a thai lady. The visa has 20th January as its expiry date and my current 90 day entry expires on 28th January. If I want to get an extra 90 days on this current visa which date do I use to do a border run... always assuming of course that this is still possible? Failing this I will try for a 60 day extention from my local office.

    Any advice would be appreciated....thanks.

  2. Thank you to to those who have given advice and offered help. i should be able to sort out something and hopefully spend the money in the right places. I will post what i end up with....cheers all.

  3. Help...I am looking for advice from computer tech's as i know only enough about hardware to get into trouble.

I want to build/have built a good, powerful reliable desktop. This machine is purely for graphics work...running Photoshop, Coral etc. I want to stay with the Windows format...no Mac. i would appreciate hearing from anyone who has built or has running something like this. Any ideas and specs gratefully acknowledged.

This will be built in Thailand...budget is under 40000 baht.

    Thanks

  4. hi....i was diagnosed

with rosacia in thailand 3 years ago. after a lot of trail and error and a lot of doctors visits i have found that the best i can do is keep it under reasonable control by doing the following

..keeping spicy food to a minimum

    ..avoiding excess alcohol usage

..staying out of the sun as much as possible (use a quality sunscreen and hat)

    ..avoiding soaps.....i use a non-alkaline cleanser (cetaphil)

..and finally i use a gel available in thailand at some pharmacies (called robaz)....around 400 bt...twice a day

as i have said...this seems to control any bad outbreaks....for me

    good luck

  5. I insured a 3ltr 2x2 last year for the first time. The insurance companies here were not interested in my home no claims. I was quoted 18000 bt which seemed reasonable as my wife was a newly licensed driver. She had 2 major accidents and we received prompt and great service from the insurance company. I have just paid this years premium...same price but no discount because of the accidents

  6. Thanks for all the helpful replies. I will get the EF 100 Macro and think longer on another. What are some forum opinions on the 17-85 mm IS USM that comes packaged with a lot of 40D's? I have read reviews from great to very negative.

    Cheers

  7. Can't answer your question about the old lenses, but the Canon 100mm Macro is a fine lens and not desperately expensive at around 18,000 baht.

For a good walk-round lens the 24-105L is excellent, but it will cost you around 35k. You can buy cheaper lenses but, from my experience, you will not be happy with the image quality and will eventually upgrade to L quality lenses.

Good luck with the 40D, it is a fantastic camera.

Thanks for the information hughden. Both of the lenses you mention were on my probable list...but at 44000bt (local quote)the 24-105 might have to wait. Yes, I can't wait to pick up the new camera.

  8. After much deliberation I have decided to get the Canon 40D. I have 50mm and a 28-108 USM Canon lenses for an old Canon EOS SLR. Can anyone tell me if these lenses will operate with the 40D ok. If not i would appreciate advice on lenses for the new camera....for general purpose work and for macro as this is my prime interest. My budget is not unlimited :o .

I have looked at a lot of lenses but must admit that i am now getting a bit confused...so help from anyone with hands on experience would sure be appreciated.

    Thanks...

  9. In the last week i had some hardware upgrades done on my PC and in their wisdom the shop installed Vista Ultimate Ov and Office Enterprise 2007. Previously I had XP SP2 . It all works wonderfully well..no problems and all the old files converted nicely...however...I have had reports that photographs I have sent as e-mail attachments cannot be opened by my XP user friends....and my wife has burnt some cd's and floppys with programs and notes for university students only to find these will not open on XP systems either.

Is there some compatibility problem between the two systems or am I missing something?

    I need to sort this asap....Should i re-install XP?

    Thanks for any advice

  10. Yes.....this seems to be done on a regular basis in Thailand. You will need to satisfy the lending institution that you are able to meet the required payments and then you will have the option of paying a transfer fee (in my case about 6K bt) to have it in your name or taking over the payments but leaving it in the name of the original purchaser. In both cases the documents for road taxes etc should be transferred to your name and documents showing your record of payment should be in your name.

I have to admit that I was a bit nervous about this at first.....but it turned out to be trouble free and we got a great car at a great price.

  11. Hi....I have recently downloaded and started to use Easy Capture (screen capture). This is the first time I have used this type of software and I can see advantages for research etc in being able to easily obtain graphics and text. My question is whether i am in danger of picking up a virus or spy ware using this process. Many thanks in advance for any informed replies.

    cheers..Auss.

  12. Hi. On their website Tiger say that they have a flight from Singapore to Udon. Can anyone tell me if that is via Bangkok and where does one go through immigration. I am on a multiple O visa. I am simply trying to avoid the hassle of changing airports and waiting for a Khon Kaen flight. Any help here would be appreciated, thanks.

    Hi aussmen,

It is Sing to Udon direct, I will be flying it for the first time on 09-04 and I will write up how it works, I know if you fly Tiger from Perth you have to check in / out of migration in Singapore for some reason, maybe they plan to process immigration in Singapore. Anyway I will let you know.

    Khunandy

Thanks Khunandy.......I will look foward to reading your report...aussman

  14. I"ve been here 2 1/2 years...no stomach problems apart from Vientiene on a visa run...bad street food on a hot day. i wash everything including my teeth in town water and drink the 20lt delivered bottled water and buy all my meat, fruit and veges in the markets.

I think common sense works, eat where you see lots of thais eating ;wash your hands ; wash vegetables before eating/cooking. Drink at least 6 glasses of water a day, minimal air-con, easy on the booze and do regular exercise.

  15. hi...im a past sufferer of this ''tropical rot''...no more. the answer lies in airflow..ie..no jocks, or wear boxer shorts and use a moisture barrier cream if you feel it starting. i use Bepanthen ointment (made by roche).....used in aus for babies and nappy rash so it is gentle on the skin but highly effective.....cheers

  16. hi...will add my 2 cents worth. ive been using a nikon 5400 for a couple of years now and have used it for general photography as well as getting photos of my art work for further enhancement digitally. after using both photoshop and corel paint shop pro X i settled on the latter. simply easier for the novice to use and with similar functions. it also has a function to resolve the parallax problem. while this has been a good combination...i am getting a 30D as well to persue a growing passion for hi-res close-up work..

    cheers..happy snapping
