  1. Hi all,

Does anyone happen to know if it is better to exchange Thai Baht to USD here, or better to exchange in the States? I've exchanged to USD before and I know I lost money… but I'm not sure which is still better considering...

    Thanks.

  2. Selling to A bike dealership, they will low ball you. They will give you A few 1000 less, and sell it for A few 1000 more.can put it on thaivisa, baht sold, plenty of places.but it might not sell right away

Yes, this may be my best option… we'll see.

    Thanks for your help though.

  3. Hey all,

We're leaving within the next week and we want to sell our motorbike. We obviously need a "quick sale", so putting posts up in the stores and stuff isn't really an option. Would selling our bike to a bike shop be an option? Whether yes or no, does anyone know of other good ways to sell? I know the classified section is available, and I'll be putting an ad there today, but I'm not sure how "quick" the turnaround is.

    Thanks!

  4. Does anyone know of a decent massage place in east Pattaya? My definition of "decent" meaning good service, good/strong massage, and non-sexually oriented business. Our preferred location is about a 15 minute drive by bike & we're looking for something closer...

    Thanks in advance.

  5. I've checked into a number of places around here the past few years...

    - The place by Big C was run by a lady at the time I went. The prices were ridiculous, but not surprising when we saw her drive away in in brand new Benz...

    - Another, small, hidden gem is near Central Festival. It's in a massage pallor (well above it). Classes are provided twice a week early in the morning, at about 300baht per session if I remember correctly. And there may be packages, but I don't quite remember. The classes were small and quiet. I really enjoyed the guy's class, but I was seeking more classes throughout the week.

    - Fairtex -- we ended up choosing Fairtex because it had the best class schedule (in terms of quantity - both morning and evening sessions, just about every day). Two of us joined so we were given a good price. Mats & towels provided, but you can obviously bring your own. Downside: the classes can get packed at times, and the instruction is a bit more "mainstream" if you get my drift….

We found a great yogi book and do our daily session at home now :-)

    Good luck on your adventure!

  6. Actually, if you know the answer I would like to know this as well. Its always handy to have it around for the iMac.

After waiting on responses and searching the web, I'll defaulted to calling the company directly. They do ship to Thailand -- express, priority and economy -- with the longest time being about 15 days. The shipping price is pretty hefty, but when all else fails, I'm guessing it's the best bet.

Let me know if you hear of any more news.

  7. Always amazing that some people like to carry a bag that shows exactly what is inside.

Maybe they are the same who later complain that they have been robbed ?

    :-)

It's amazing that some people are so locked in their own narrow perspectives to think that the only "thought" they had was either logical or correct.

Maybe when they're traveling over 30,000 miles in the sky, they're priority is that the thing they're carrying doesn't break -- not that they're going to get robbed mid-flight.

    :-)

  8. Hi all,

Does anyone know where I can find an iLugger -- or a carrying case like it for an iMac 21.5"?

Doesn't matter if it has wheels or not -- just need it ASAP so buying it online and having it shipped isn't my best option (nor is checking my computer or having it shipped).

  9. If you'd put a price on it you might have sold it here. Otherwise use the Free Classifieds on this forum.

That's a good idea…. I was thinking 8000baht all inclusive. Any takers? lol

  10. Hi all,

I'm trying to sell a laptop and I wanted to know if anyone has experience in doing this, and where our best bet would be to sell. I'm thinking of the IT center versus pawn shops, but does anyone have specific suggestions, and if so--where?

Thanks in advance, oh, and here are the specs if that helps...

  11. Why do hardbacks move slower? My first thought is that hardback books are far more valuable. Is this more of a "used" books thing?

Yes, it is a used books thing - at least it is in Chiang Mai. I guess it is because hardbacks are usually heavier and less convenient. Unless they are brand new and not out in paperback yet, they are almost impossible to sell for more than a pittance. However, spiritual type stuff is a little easier to sell in hardback, because people often read them a few times and hardbacks last longer.

Ah, yes. I can imagine the lighter books are more convenient. I've enjoyed the hardbacks as I always found them to be far more durable--especially while traveling. I'll carry the extra ounces to ensure quality. smile.png

  12. I'd have to agree with Casa Pascal. Good for the price -- about 300baht/per person (correct me if I'm wrong people). It's a good choice if you enjoy "bbq", eggs and bread. The rest of the stuff is okay in my opinion--oh, the pancakes and waffles are pretty good too.

    They're open from 8am to 2pm.

With some people; the light's are on, but no one there!

Are you sure you're not blonde?

    Electric heating pads in Pattaya???

I've never seen one... too dangerous! Plenty of hot water bottles though.

I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to say here...

But yes, heating pads are used for sore muscles… even in warm climate. thumbsup.gif

  14. Hi everyone,

I have an Andis hair clipper (apx. 70USD) and a heating pad (apx 50USD) -- both originally bought in the US. The heating pad worked for a while -- but one day it seems like the switchboard or fuse inside the thing broke. The light still goes on, but it doesn't warm up. As for the clippers, we plugged them in at a hotel (a modern hotel actually), and they sorta "blew up". They don't turn on anymore.

I've heard that there are places that do these kind of repairs. If so, can anyone tell me where, how much it might cost, and if the "fix" is really worth it (do the repairs actually work - and if so, is it long-term?).

Just want to know if it's worth repairing or if it's better to buy new things.

  15. You can also donate them to the library of The Father Ray Foundation.

Yes, that was my backup plan if I don't sell them -- but I was concerned that since the books are in English, that most of them won't get read. What do you think?

  16. I wouldn't hold out much hope at recouping anything near what you paid for them.

Boxes of books are going for 100 to 200 baht at the auctions and individual books at around 20 baht each at the flea markets around town.

I will offer you 400 baht for the pile you have pictured.

If you want to hold out for more good luck to you but if all else fails my offer still stands.

Thank you. WIll certainly keep your offer in mind.

  17. Not a bad pile. Murakami is a hot seller. Those are both very good titles and IQ84 is not easy to find used.

Osho sells pretty well soon, but hardbacks move much less quickly than paperbacks.

Paulo Coelho sells fairly well too, but "The Alchemist" sells much better than the others.

Not sure about the others, so 400 baht seems like a reasonable offer to me.

Why do hardbacks move slower? My first thought is that hardback books are far more valuable. Is this more of a "used" books thing?
