  1. I don't think I've ever come across such a trashy forum on the internet.

Please delete my account and all records associated with it.

We all know that Thailand attracts inadequate and insecure individuals, but I had no idea that this forum was a meeting point for such people.

    My bad.

  2. You scorn forum use and Like buttons, yet you are the same poster who put a topic up with a link to his own Youtube interview and channel (at least you claim it was yourself) clearly in the hope people would watch it. (topic later removed by admin)

Of course, as the OP has previously pointed out, forum addiction is a problem, and if no one is watching, all those hours of video making are wasted.

As someone like yourself who has posted hundreds of videos (odd for someone who scorns forum use), it would make sense that you might want to network and build a friend base, have people look at your videos and share them with others. TV would seem a perfect place to start some networking, making some online friends and sharing your work.

Actually, I asked ADMIN to remove the video because it was causing offence to the Chiang Mai expat community that works here illegally.

Next time, get your facts right.

  3. Too many people on Thaivisa pollute the forums with childish OP's like this one.

Let me for once spell it out clearly to the OP and others that share his fundamentally flawed view of Thaivisa.

There are thousands of members that are friends with other members in real life.

There are thousands of members who have the courtesy and good grace to assist other members on a daily basis.

There are thousands of members that rely on Thaivisa for vital information and support at times of crisis.

There are thousands of members who rely on Thaivisa for a link to the English speaking world.

The OP will have no idea as to how many people are in contact with each other on Thaivisa via pm threads. He will have no idea of the social community in the background of Thaivisa.

He, like too many others, thinks this is an anonymous internet forum. It's not. Far from it.

The OP is the loser here, he will never know how strong the TV community really is, and that, how can I put it???.......truly is......sad.

Mmmmm. How odd!. Those of us who can find friends away from the "TV community" are "losers". Interesting.

I enjoyed a good round of golf today at Muang Ake. I did so in the company of my colleagues, acquaintances and business associates.

No one clicked my "like button", but I did manage a birdie on the 13th.

  4. My house in BKK was in the floods. My motorcycles were on the ground floor (shophouse). I was in California and was worried how bad the house was and what happened to my bikes. The flooding was bad that my family left the area and no one was there. Another TV poster traveled through the same area, and did an excursion to the house to send pictures to me regularly (when he went through) an update. It is nice to have friends.

My house is in Muang Ake. When it got flooded, I moved to Nichada Thani. I kept in touch with Muang Ake via neighbors. Real people, by the way.

But I do understand your situation.

  5. I just checked my profile page and saw that I have acquired a friend. His name is Mr Jingthing.

He seems a pleasant enough chap (open-minded, colorful and interesting), and I'm sure that in real life I'd be happy to meet him.

But what are the advantages (or disadvantages) of having "friends" on this forum?

I've still yet to work out the purpose of this "like" button stuff. As I wrote before, the "like" feature seems to be little more than a snare for insecure individuals who are desperate to fit in. I still see posters who "engineer" their posts in such a way as to optimize their "like potential". All rather odd. And all rather sad.

  6. Most girls I know will not go near Indians.

coz , mr india and his brothers want a package deal , all of them included.biggrin.png

working thai girls , are not racial predjudice ,

it,s the colour and the amount of money ,thats important ,

not the colour of his working parts , no problem .

what a white farang likes to believe.cheesy.gif

True. Whores do anyone or anything. But the FOOL white man likes to hear that he's different.

It's just the same with white western fools and "regular girls". Ever heard that immortal line "my girl is different"?

  7. Wonder how many negative responses you would have received during the Tsunami updates or last years flooding updates or other similar situations?

I think you'll find that Thais and Thai-speaking expats used MCOT and many other sources.

Expats who don't speak Thai may have used Richard Barrow (on Twitter) et al.

I personally used MCOT and Richard Barrow during the Red Shirt saga in Bangkok.

This is not to denigrate Thaivisa as a source of information. Clearly, the Thaivisa news sections is useful, but it's merely a limited pool of items that are reproduced from other (more frequently updated) sources.

  8. We will have to see what comes of this, as far as I am aware it is not normal practice for hardline muslim militants to simply surrender, it may well be that the people who are surrendering are not as militant as the real hardliners, but time will tell, if there are no more attacks then the program the government engaged in could be called a success, otherwise it could be called another smokescreen.

Three soldiers and their maid were shot dead and burned this morning in Yala. It was on MCOT earlier today, but I can no longer find the link.

    According to AP:

Officials say about 100 suspected insurgents have surrendered to authorities in Thailand's restive south, including the alleged leader of a 2004 attack that reignited longstanding violence in the region.

Are there any photos showing this?

  9. I'm still having problems understanding how you can be racist against Thais, when Thai isn't a race.

Sort of a Chinese/Indian/Malay mix. With skin colouring varying from whiter than westerners to as black as an African.

This is a quote from somewhere else:

I have no time to get into details, but the Siamese state of the last 100 odd yrs changed everything. Assimilation became the buzzword. The old vassalage framework was destroyed. Periphery states were absorbed and repressed. Phibun Songkhram and his Thai Ratthaniyom policy of the 1930s sealed the country's fate. Everyone and his uncle were forced to become a clone of the T'ai of the Chao Phraya basin. The proud natives of Korat, Isaan and Lanna became Thai Isaan and Thai Yuan; the hill people became Khon Thai / Chaw Kaw; the Moken became Thai Mai; and of course, the southern Malays became "Thai Muslims."

Siam was renamed Prathet Thai (ประเทศไทย) or Thailand. Thai (ไทย), meaning “free” is a play of the homonym for the T’ai (ไท) ethnic group, which in its various incarnations made up the majority of Siam’s population. Hence, Thailand means Land of the Free, but metaphorically it is the Land of the T’ais. Phibun was bent on creating a homogenized, socially cohesive populace in a unitary state guided by Central Chao Phraya T’ai culture and Theravada Buddhism. This quest for racial and cultural purity subsumed inhabitants of incorporated territories (Malays, Khmers, Lao, Shan, Mon) into the “Thai” ethno-cultural yolk and forcibly assimilated Thailand’s substantial immigrant Chinese population. Some of these ethno-social groups became subservient and were readily assimilated; others resist till this day.

Most damagingly, history was changed and the Thai people was lied to. Everything not conforming to the Chao Phraya T'ai mold was deleted and replaced with fairytales of superlative acts of heroism and territorial conquests by Krung Thep chieftains and rulers. The great Lanna Kingdom of King Mengrai became a footnote. The Patani Kingdom became an irritant, and must be erased from the face of the earth. Suddenly, most states of mainland SEA became Thai "colonies" and "vassals." Sultans, Rajas and Phrayas became "Governors." Resistance became "rebellion."

Hence, the average Thai of today really know nothing about Thai history (beyond whats concocted for school textbooks), let alone SEA history, and the role of the Siamese polities (Sukhothai, Lannathai, Ayutthaya,Thonburi, Krung Thep) in the bigger picture of regional history. When your mindset is "I owned everything from Nanchao to Temasek since eternity," then its difficult to converse intelligently.

  10. Perhaps people who live in glass houses etc etc.

"When I see comments that Thais are lazy, stupid, a nation of halfwits, or are a “nation of children” it reminds me of what was said during slavery and segregation. It does not imply “equality” to me; it implies that the person making the comments believes himself/herself/his culture to be superior, and one is the master and the other is the servant."

I live in Thailand and speak to Thais on a daily basis, I regularly hear comments like the above, however its Thais who are making them, usually directed towards their neighbours from Laos, Cambodia or Burma.

Lets not forget the comments also passed about Indians and how they and their food stinks.

You only have to watch Thai lakorns to see the caricature sterotypical way people from Issan are portrayed.

It may well be the Op has looked in the mirror and doesnt like what he sees.

    +1.

The most racist people here in Thailand are the Thais themselves.

  11. Forum addiction is a growing problem.

It's not yet recognized or acknowledged in the same way as Facebook addiction, but it's obvious to me that forum addiction and Facebook addiction fall under the same umbrella.

Particularly insidious on this forum is the "like" button feature. It seems to have become something of a snare for the insecure, the inadequate and the marginalized. Hence it is that here on Thaivisa we see adult men "gloating" about their number of "likes".

I've not encountered this feature on other forums.

I posted a set of links to a very obviously addicted member of this forum a few days ago. The general advice is simple: take a break; take a holiday; give it a rest.

    Your question is interesting:

My point is, especially as we grow older and the social outlets of interaction seem to become more limited to us, is virtual reality where we are all contained in our own little worlds, good for the mind, soul and body? Somehow I don`t think so, but this now seems to be a sign of the times.

An obsessive (or near obsessive) level of online interaction with anonymous strangers is not the solution. It's very easy to become isolated here in Thailand. The trick is to find find new hobbies, or to resurrect and rediscover old ones.

  12. There are probably people in the world that would get upset at being referred to as Caucasian. i think the resentment lies within the person that feels as though they are being discriminated against more-so than the person using the term.

Me for instance, I am white. I will never be insulted at being called white, being called whitey, pork or any other names causes me no offense and never will. Even being called Paddy or anything else will not upset me.

That's a good point. And I think it's something that is beyond the comprehension of many here. For instance, in the USA, some whites like to compare being called "honky" or "cracker" with the infamous "N" word. Well it's really not the same, is it? In order for a racial term to be truly offensive, there has to be a historical context, i.e., past history of racial oppression. Whites have never been discriminated the same way as blacks in America. Not even close.

So in Thailand, I try to be patient with farangs complaining about the word "farang," yet, I find it almost comical when compared to other racial injustices around the world. If anything, the word "farang" denotes privilege and international worldliness, among other things. Of course, that is changing slowly as farangs may no longer be looked at that way...except maybe amongst the peasant class.

But I agree with you that those who feel resentment are more apt to have internal issues rather than anything real.

    Good post.

Us "whites" were never "black ivory". We were never slaves. We were never "buck niggers" who were used solely to maintain the size of our plantation owners' slave quotient.

By all accounts, the Royal Court of Ayuthaya welcomed us "whites" with open arms when we first arrived. Read the history books and you'll see that Thais were actually very accommodating when we first turned up.

Any racism that you may feel the word FARANG connotes probably stems from (Facist Dictator) Phibun Songkran's nationalistic reforms in the 1930s and 1940s.

  13. Yes, I know the original post is years old.

Iron has been smelted in Thailand for at least a millennium, so it's a possibility. (See, for example, http://euraseaa14.sh....php?thisID=237). That said, my initial reaction was that it was more likely to be for pottery or bronze.

Based upon far too many hours watching the British TV archaeology series "Time Team", I believe the correct thing to do is get a very powerful magnet and pass it over the area. If it's iron smelting you should pick up lots of tiny fragments of iron which will cling to the magnet. Viewing the fragments (small spheres versus flakes) under a microscope should tell you more about their origin.

Could you not use a metal detector?

  14. 'tI don't like fat Korean singers who can't speak Turkish and don't have pets!

    1. Fools who litter their ill-structrured paragraphs with archaic Russian proverbs.

    2. Clowns who affect a kind of faux Shakespearian diction.

    3. Idiots who try to spice up their content with obscure Bulgarian metaphors.

    4. Turds who make gratuitous use of French accents.

    5. Wimps who believe that using Panamanian non-sequiturs will make them more "popular".

  15. For those posts advocating the forcible relocation of the approximately 1.8 million Thai Muslim population across the border to Malaysia do you not think that this will possibly trigger an armed conflict between the nations involved and any possibility of reaching a peaceful politically negotiated resolution to grievances nullified. On the other side of the coin the resultant resentment by the Thai Muslims from being forced from their homeland will only significantly escalate the level of violent attacks in the region in the years to come.

In today's news there is a glimmer of hope for the commencement of a lasting solution with a number of "insurgents" giving up on their campaign of violence, this was linked to assistance being provided to them by the Thai authorities. The Indonesian resolution of the armed conflict in Ache could be a useful model for negotiations. People on TV occasionally reference the Troubles in Northern Ireland that were finalised by political negotiation. Some of the leaders of the Provisional IRA terrorist group, such as Martin McGuinness, are now accepted mainstream politicians in Northern Ireland. Negotiation is the way forward (carrot and stick), not actions that will only increase hostility.

The Indonesian resolution of the armed conflict in Ache

Ache => ACEH. Maybe your wrist was "aching" when you wrote this. Too much time at the keyboard! I get horrible neck aches.

  16. Hardly - it is not Malay land at all and has not been for hundreds of years as recorded when the King of Siam removed the scholastic kingdom/Sultinate of Patani during the 18th century. Further ratified by the Anglo French Convention 1896 and further in 1909 by the Anglo Siamese Treaty. Conquered nations are all the same - like in nature, the strong survive. But I guess you 'could' argue US and Australia belong to the indigenous tribes of Indians and Aboriginals just as Malay Indians are also indigenous, with the former two having occupied their present land around the same time. But it all got screwed up when religion entered the argument. I maintain my statement - send them all back across the border where they can be further brainwashed by Sharia Law.

Hardly - it is not Malay land at all and has not been for hundreds of years

    Huh?

the King of Siam removed the scholastic kingdom/Sultinate of Patani during the 18th century

    Huh?

    Malay Indians are also indigenous

    Huh?

send them all back across the border

  17. The mentality described by theblether is dying out fast.

I spend most of my time surrounded by Thai girls and none of them would marry someone they didn't love just for the sake of keeping their family happy, in fact the ones that are single are generally single because they are waiting for "Mr Right" (despite having many potential suitors pushed towards them by their family).

The Thai girls I know are no different in general than the Western girls I know, except for being shorter with tighter bums and smaller breasts.

You claim that the "mentality described by theblether is dying out fast" because of your experiences with a tiny handful of Thai girls that you know.

Oh god. This rubbish hurts my eyes.

What was it that the Thai politician said recently? Did he by any chance encourage local girls to marry farangs? And what was his reasoning?

  18. To THE BLETHER

    Your topic is very good.

I met a girl on an online dating site. She was 32. She was beautiful. We chatted online. We spoke on the phone. We kept in touch.

Eventually I met someone else (a real relationship), but I still chatted with this "beautiful girl".

Recently, this "beautiful girl" met a man from Austria. The man flew here to meet her. He proposed. She accepted.

All the time, this "beautiful girl" remained in contact with me. She said that she didn't love the man from Austria. She said she only wanted children and someone with money to take care of her family.

I date these girls because I live here. If I didn't live here, I would have no interest in them at all.

    mines different.

    Yes. They are always "different".

And they stay "different" right up until the time we realize they are exactly the same as all the others.

Isn't it crazy how we all fool ourselves!!!

One of the most popular TV shows in the 1960s was STAR TREK.

The mission of the USS Enterprise was "to boldly go where no man has gone before". Split infinitives ruled the day!

William Shatner played the part of Captain Kirk.

Years later, William Shatner attended a convention for Star Trek fans. He was appalled to see people dressed as Klingons and speaking a kind of Klingon language.

These people were his fans. He spoke to them. He said:

    GET A LIFE

Why do I find it so easy to picture you as a little schoolby wearing short trousers?

Seems like you envy those who have gone beyond and survived Thaivisa. whistling.gif ....smile.png

Garbage. I'm a perennial survivor and my wife is half-Klingon.

Interesting to note, though, that the little schoolboy doesn't address the issue re: his short trousers.

The OP doesn't want to know anything.

He knows already how men with good jobs, responsibilities, friends, hobbies, wives and children live. He knows how men with a "life" live.

Your reply is childish. I was trying to help.

It's a simple issue of ratios. One simply takes the post count of a forum member and divides the number by the duration that said member has been an account holder.

In this respect, you are probably the most prolific poster on this forum.

If you are a mobility-impaired retiree living in Nakhon Nowhere and this forum is your lifeline to the world, I do understand and please accept my apologies for encouraging you to get a life.

If not, read the links I quoted (they are there to help you) and get a life.
