  1. My wife and I are sadly moving back to the UK in July, following two great years in Bangkok. The company that we used to ship our belongings here two years ago doesn't offer a Thailand to UK service - can anyone recommend any good companies for shipping our stuff please? The company used in the UK provided all the boxes etc - it would be great if we could use a similar company that provides this kind of complete package…if possible!

    Thanks!

  2. See this hasn't been updated for a while... I'm relatively new to Bangkok and would really like some online Xbox 360 gaming (can't really sort out the time difference issue with friends in the UK); anyone up for a bit of a game sometime soon?! I play all sorts; BF3, Shift, GTA, Far Cry 3, Red Dead - got plenty of games and all of sudden can't remember any of them, but give me a shout if you fancy some online racing / killing at some point! My gamertag is modulamonkey - don't let my ridiculous gamertag fool you in to thinking I'm 15 - I'm in my 30s!

  3. Hi all,

I'm a graphic designer new to Ari, and am looking for a decent printers nearby. The only one I know of is King's Pro; has anyone used them before please? Any other suggestions for local printers would be great please. I don't need anything too fancy, just good quality A3 printing at this point.

    Thanks

  4. We knew it was in my name as my wife's colleague was able to translate (in brief). As it's only 200 I've paid it at an ATM; see what happens! Hoping it's my game, although I would have expected that to a) have arrived two months ago and B) cost me more like a couple of thousand baht; apologies, we got stung hard by customs when shipping our stuff out - my opinion of them is skewed!!!

    Thanks for your help

  5. I've been living in Bangkok for a few months now, and have just received a letter written entirely in Thai - which is a problem as I can't read a word! My wife showed it to someone at her work and they have said that it's a bill from customs. It's only for 200 baht, but it doesn't seem to be the normal type; my understanding is that normally you are billed by the post office holding the package, but for this one we apparently have to go to a bank to pay it. Has anyone had anything like this before please? We're thoroughly confused about it; the only package we're 'expecting' was an Xbox game that my family sent about 2 months ago, which I'm sure has been 'lost' in the post. Since two items went walkies in the post within our first month here we've told everyone to not bother. All very weird...

  6. It's a piece of cake. Enter your router ip -probably 192.168.1.1 if you haven't altered it. Enter the login details which are on top of your router. I think it's in advanced and then firewall-depending on what router you have. Maybe try turning it off, connecting the Xbox and sticking it straight back on-never leave it off. Another thing I noticed them doing was disabling the annoying landing page that sometimes comes up. They also reset the router using the software route rather than turning the power off. If you get stuck give me a shout-I can video how it's done if necessary. As I say, no idea what else they did when they were poking about-hopefully the above is all that's needed

  7. I take it back; True have fixed it! They remoted in to my computer and messed about with the router a little bit. They removed the Firewall which is obviously not good, and told me that when I want to play Xbox I should just take the Firewall off: NOT COOL. However, I connected to the Marketplace and then tested putting the Firewall back on mid-download, and it's still working! So, no idea what they did, but it worked!

  8. I've just moved to Bangkok and have brought my UK Xbox 360 with me. I'm aware that there isn't an official Live service in Thailand, but from poking about on here I see that many people are able to access and play on Live from here. Mine connects to our network fine (it can stream from our NAS drive just fine), but when I first log in to Live and when I try and download any updates, check out my friends or access the marketplace, I get an error 80072746. I've been through and done all the normal things - deleting marketplace cache, port forwarding etc - but nothing is helping. Running the network check on the Xbox shows that all is connecting fine - although that also throws up the error message stating that not all content is available. Has anyone else had this problem please?

If it's of any use, I currently only have a silver membership (although I should still be able to access the marketplace with that) and the locale on my machine is set to UK. I've also tried it with US and Singapore but neither have helped at all.

Assistance would be hugely appreciated as I'm desperate to get online!

    Thanks

    Sam

  9. I don't want to mod my 360 as I want to be able to play on Live, but I'm having trouble sourcing 360 games here. InGame only stock a few, and I'd rather not use something like Play-Asia as my experiences so far with customs dictate that they will double the cost of anything bought with import duty. Can anyone suggest anywhere in Bangkok, or maybe an online retailer please?

  10. My wife and I have moved to Bangkok very recently, and have rented an apartment in Ari. While it's lovely and quiet round here, we'd love to be able to go for a drink somewhere - not necessarily a bar for westerners as we're not exactly rich - just somewhere we can go and have a good time! Can anyone suggest anywhere nearby please? Ta

  11. I am currently based in Bangkok, and will be for the next two years. I am planning to buy an expensive Apple Mac in the next couple of weeks , which will need to be shipped as it's huge and very heavy. I avoided shipping any IT gear from the UK to Thailand as I know you can get clobbered for import duty - if the machine is two years old, would the same double-taxing apply when going back to the UK?

I seem to remember reading that UK customs are much less tax-heavy than Thai customs, and will not tax you when something is clearly used - is this the case please? If not I will have to rethink my purchase!!

Thanks - hope this makes sense!

    Sam
