  1. Here is the latest:

Change from a private party of family and friends for the ashes being spread in a boat to a ceremony at a temple and then move on by land to Laem Phrom Thpep Cape.

There will be a Temple ceremony 16th. Jan. 9:30 am with the Monk. I hour at the temple and we shall move on to Laem Phrom Thep Cape. Everyone invited!

Go to this link for a map: http://goo.gl/maps/Rf5p2

There is no change to the wake:

There will be a wake for Little John at Gig's Jam Club Saturday the 17th from about 8 pm onwards where the Thai band Cold Chilli will be playing on the night. John requested a wake at a watering hole in Phuket where a band was playing and where Tony (Chainsaw) Wilson could sing a few of John's favorites for everyone.

Go to this link for a map: http://www.phuket.net/directory/nightlife-entertainment/bars-pubs/gigs-jam-club/

Little John's son Tony will be at both locations so come by and pay your respects to a great guy's son!

    see you there,

  2. Jonathan Head mostly tried to report the news as it was although he did suffer from regurgitating the same old phrases day in day out and became a little predictable and stale towards the end. Rachel Harvey is either shockingly ignorant of the facts or chooses to ignore them completely. The reds are not a bunch of poor farmers from upcountry – there are many factors in the mix from communists, anarchists, anti-government, Thaksinistas, paid attendees, republicans, aggrieved army personnel etc. Their leaders have asked “a million people to bring a million bottles of petrol to Bangkok and set it on fire”, to “burn the election office” to throw shit at Aphisit’s and Prem’s house as well as the rather sick collection of blood and throwing it at people’s personal residences. Criminal offences in any country. By the time all this has filtered through her rather simplistic mind it comes out as “the rich against the poor”. She clearly went to the Barbie school of foreign journalism.

Unfortunately it’s the same with the Thaksin era and the coup. She forgets or ignores the fact that Thaksin had held illegal elections – not giving the opposition the required time to prepare, buying votes aplenty and paying other political parties to oppose. At best he was a caretaker PM up to his old tricks when the army rolled in. From the Barbie school of journalism that becomes “PM Thaksin, overthrown in a military coup” etc. etc.

About the only thing I await with any interest from her is her distillation of the yellow shirted loons who appear to be making a comeback. She will certainly omit the New Politics party and their electoral beliefs and Sonthi’s history with Thaksin and will probably label them as “pro-establishment” or some such wishy washy claptrap.

Send her off where she belongs – covering the world’s knitting competitions.

    Well stated!

  3. I am from Undon so I guess I must be a red shirt, but 5 years ago I came to Bkk and got a job at 4,000 baht a month, I worked hard for a rich Bkk Family and send most of the money home to my family.

I never once made trouble for the family that paid me, I just worked hard, the harder I worked the more money I made and soon was making 8,000 baht a month

When I met my western husband he helped me decide to go out and open my own business, and slowly and with a lot of hard work it got better and better, now I own 2 shops and looking at opening a third.

The hours are long but I make good money and do not have to ask 1 baht from my western husband, now I employ 4 girls from my home town, so we send 4 times more money back home. I look after my family and put my younger brother through University.

These so called Rich Bangkok people you are protesting against use my shops and pay me money which I send back to Udon both through myself and also my staff.

Hurt the Thai elite no way, I have like many others learnt to use them to help my family,

Imagine if all the red shirts who are causing all the problems got up and did what I and many of my friends have done how much money would be flowing back to Udon

Wake up my brothers and sisters of Udon you are being used, this is not about our people, this is about a select few who are using you for their own financial gain.

Protesting, violence, is not the way to a better Udon

The real way is to take the advantage the Bangkok gives us, work hard and educate our younger brothers and sisters, I can tell you now, no promise you now, our time will come when we will rule Thailand, but because we worked hard and deserve it.

What you are doing to day is setting a example for tomorrow, You are the creators of tomorows problems

I ask my and your Budha to open your eyes to the real truth

Powerful and hope this goes on the RED SHIRT TV when it's back on the air. Much respect to this RED turned (RED-WHITE-BLUE) lady!

  4. The saddest part of this story is that Ning still can not see when she is being used and abused! She is letting herself be used again by the "rich and connected people" - only this time the wear red shirts! She does not want to get violent but she goes with a group that has demonstrated violence the past and can't even wait a few months for a real chance to say what they want to say by voting?

She is still misguided and unfortunately by a person whom was a little smarter than the rest in giving a few prices of cake to the poor while stealing them blind - and now gaining their support even after being convicted of high crimes against the poor - Thaksin!

Your story of Ning in so contradictory why didn't you try to make her understand herself? On one hand she says "even if it takes a long long time" but she goes with a group of red shirts demanding the government step down NOW!

Sad state of affairs and I hope she does not get drawn into any violence that may happen!

  5. RIP Anurak!

This is a common problem waiting to happen 100's if not 1,000's of times in Thailand, maybe in your home! More than likely installed with out grounding and with out a Ground Earth Leak Circuit Breaker.

Unfortunately in most cases the shower hot water heater is install by non-professional electricians that just hook up power.

Pay a professional to check yours! The cost to do it right; add ground and change to correct size Earth Leak Circuit Breaker should be no more than Baht 2,000 to 3,000. Obviously there was something that caused a short in this system to the shower handle but as these type of hot water heaters get older, they all have the potential! Even if new and not installed professionally, this can happen!

  6. everybody needs his cut right, and they forgot the luggage thieves...

  7. Hi

We are thinking of moving to phuket next year. We have two teenage boys. Does anyone know if there are other teenagers living in Phuket and if so what do they do ie sports, music lessons, art, social life etc.

    Thanks

Don't be put off by the low lives that themselves can find nothing else to do, then sit in front of their computers all day and write BS on things they know nothing about, like the first reply from something calling themselves Avante.

There are many sports activities in Phuket from tennis lessons, sailing lessons, join a swim team, and golf lessons to mention a few. There is also good music lessons available at Yamaha Big-C.

There are additional International and local (English) schools other than BIS and all have good after school activities.

I do not want to spell it out here so that maybe the same responder might find his own way to some happiness, so your welcome to write me direct and get my phone and call or discuss it outside this forum. I have 2 children living in Phuket for 10 years with the second one born here and they do have many wholesome things to do I assure you.

  8. All the responses are ridicules so far! where is the monitor and why they doesn't cut these irrelevant responses out for they have nothing to do about the topic, just wasted my time reading through the BS responses.

I put my 7 year old daughter ,that bounced back and forth between her mother (Thai) and myself (American) families and was Thai as far as languages, into MOntessori. Montessori Phuket did a great job with her and she quickly adapted, learnt English, and loved the school. She had great loving and caring teachers! She went there for 2 years and then I moved her to QSI where she is now at 15 and a junior. The director at QSI only said one thing about Montessori in that the kids that transferred over to QSI at age 13 (that is as high a grade Montessori goes in Phuket) had trouble at first because they do not take written tests and he worried if a child went through his entire school ears and didn't know how to take written tests how would they do on college enrollment tests like SAT. Good point I thought.

If you want additional info form my point of view contact me direct.

  9. hello

i will be travelling to BKK on Monday, and am looking to buy an erosion type chlorine feeder, and some trichlor chlorine tabs

I'm planning on using this to continuously chlorinate a water supply from a lake so will site it before the 2000L storage tank, the local village supply apparently doesnt use chlorine so no point in getting my water from there...

can anyone give me the details of a good place to buy these and rough prices

(ps: apologies if i have posted this in the wrong place but these are mainly used for swimming pools i believe)

    thanks

YES we use them in many cases for drinking water to destroy biological contaminates. In many cases you will have to put in a by-pass pipe with valve to regulate the chlorine amount to 2 ppm or higher depending on the source water quality. If no bypass and the entire water supply goes through the chlorine feeder you may get to much chlorine and it is easier to control the amount of chlorine with a py-pass pipe line.

I attch a photo of one installed for a school drinking water supply if you needed so you can see the simply by-pass pipe work. You can buy them at most pool suppliers - Pool & Spa in Bangkok has them and it costs around Baht 3,000. Contact me if you need more details.

  10. SO YOUNG and yes RIP and sorry for his family and friends for sure!

I teacher is meant to SET EXAMPLES hope this is not his and other teachers examples.

Riding a motorcycle even without drinking and with helmet is a no win proposition!

Riding a motorcycle and drinking is a death plan!

SO SAD yet it happens so much in Phuket and Thailand.

Part of the human "It wont happen to me" psychic.

  11. Yesterday at 19:00 hours, Mr. Steve Swan, a good friend of many in Phuket, unexpectedly passed away while recovering from a motorcycle accident at Vachira Hospital in Phuket. Apparently he died of heart failure and his family in the USA has been notified. A blood drive was launched in part through many island friends, the Rotary Club, and members here at Thai Visa Forum due to a rare type of blood needed, which was successful and allowed for an operation to repair the extensive hip damage. His friend and family want to again thank everyone involved. Steve was a retired US Navy Chief and the owner of the Crows Nest Bar on Soi Sea Dragon in Patong. Last night abut 50 friends and sailors from the visiting USS John Paul Jones gathered at the Crows Nest in remembrance. Steve is know as the type of guy that would help anyone out and loved Phuket and his life. Funeral services will be advised.

    RIP

  12. Being an Environmental Engineer specializing in water treatment system and a specialist in nutrition, I can say that the percentage of minerals a human gets through water compared to diet is so small that any person with a good healthy diet including an average amount of fruits, vegetables, and fiber, that the amount of minerals supplied by water intake is almost unmeasurable. Living in the tropics and also polluted cities, the amount of bad contaminates including biological, makes for the prevalent use of water systems like RO that in deed do remove up to 99% of minerals and all the the other harmful contaminates. It is much wiser to drink RO water, or water that has been run through an RO system and re-mineralization, as to other options that may not remove the more serious contaminates.

  13. I got a black hand made ceramic pool in Phuket. Several of the tiles have chipped corners and a few are missing a big percentage of the black ceramic topping, so they show white in the pool. I was wondering is there is any underwater dye that can be used for temporary fix till I empty the entire pool and replace these tiles?

  14. In Patong there is no where that a 200 Baht fair is warranted! From Soi Bangla to Soi Nanai should be a 100 Baht fare. If it was in Bangkok the taxi meter fare would be less than 50 baht for sure!

The Thai Tuk Tuk drivers in Phuket have always been the worst for tourism. Survey after survey taken by TOT, hotels and the cities, show tourists always say they are the worst thing they come across in Phuket!

The previous Governor said at one time he would do away with them altogether, didn't happen! When the police went to one way traffic and then wanted Soi Bangla as pedestrian street, the Tuk Tuk drivers revolted. Some are reasonable, most are terrible and detrimental to Phuket and Thailand’s image. When taxi meters were introduced, the Tuk Tuk drivers again intervened treating their lives!

What to do, the answer is so easy, yet so far away!! Maybe more stories like this and then something will happen!
