It is now possible to unlock the phone using software available online which allows you to use any sim card.
Yes I thought that was pretty obvious but risky given that Apple is not that stupid...
September 25, 2007 - 10:00AM
Apple has warned iPhone owners who have used unauthorised programs to unlock the cellular service feature of their handsets that they may end up with a phone that doesn't work after the company's next software update for it.
Since the iPhone debuted in June, hackers have posted a number of methods online to make it possible to use the iPhone on cellular networks other than AT&T, which is the exclusive official carrier for the iPhone.
The news will come as a blow to scores of Australian iPhone enthusiasts who have brought the $US399 phones out to Australia and hacked them so that they can work on local mobile networks.
Apple executives say they have discovered that many of those unauthorised unlocking programs cause some software damage to iPhones.
Now, a software update that Apple plans to issue later this week that will add features such as accessibility to the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store may end up making the touch-screen mobile phone completely inoperable if it has been hacked into.
"This has nothing to do with proactively disabling a phone that is unlocked or hacked," Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, said in an interview.
"It's unfortunate that some of these programs have caused damage to the iPhone software, but Apple cannot be responsible for ... those consequences."

I'm waiting on my iPhone that I ordered on the US Apple website and had
re-shiped to Thailand by a friend. I was wondering which is the best
carrier for the iPhone (for me)?
- Best EDGE coverage in Phuket
- Best rate for unlimitted EDGE data transfers
- Low drop calls and good quality in general
- Best rate for voice calls
Also, should I go with the pre-paid or post-paid? What are the
requirements to go on the post-paid plans? Do they require a work
permit or just a Non-Imm visa would suffice? (can put my wife's name.
but she has no employment, would that work?)
Any input would be appreciated.
You will be able to use your iPhone on a Thai network? I thought they were all restricted to a particular network.. AT&T or whatever it is...

Emirates via Dubai could be ok.. (I'm in transit NY - BKK right now)..
Might also want to try Qatar airlines... these guys are pretty competitive these days..

Try Wattana Auto on Petburi Road near the Pure Gas Station
They can sort you out if you require such a machine..

Sounds like stealing to me..
For moral guidance on the issue, see Gleaning of the Fields.
Interesting read...

Does anyone know if gleaning is legal in Thailand? In certain parts of Europe (and possibly the United States) it is my understanding that after a harvest anyone may go into the field and collect whatever the farmer passed over. How about Thailand?
Sounds like stealing to me..

I got a new passport back in October.. had a 30 day stamp in the old one and just showed them both at the airport when I left Bangkok. I believe the passport gets cancelled, but visas etc contained in that passport are still valid. At least mine were/are anyway..

Bottles = good
Cans suck!
Fine sentiments
There is no comparison.. Bottles are the winner by a country mile..Unless you like the taste of aluminium..
Usually I would agree 99.9% of the time, but for some reason beer lao does taste better in the cans than in the bottles... not sure why that is, but I have actually stopped drinking beer lao in thailand (in bottles that is) now due to the strange taste.. always tastes like it is past the expiry date... however, when in laos I would only order it in bottles...

Actually extremely heavy rains fell late last year in Tanzania... It didn't stop raining for about 2 months.. maybe they have started already?!
Would love to know how much this is costing the GOTNZ? Hopefully this is going to be donated to them as they do not have a cent or shilingi to their name...

I've been teaching here for a while now, and having discovered how much I enjoy teaching have decided to get the relevant qualifications. Yes, I am, shall we say under qualified, and no this is something I decided to do before the new crackdowns. But saying that it's going to take a few years before I complete my degree, so I was wondering if a life ex. degree will keep me covered until then? Any one out there using a life ex. degree or knows about them any advice you have would be gratefuly recieved.
Look on the net or go to Kao San Rd.. sure you can buy one there.. maybe you could even pick up an honorary doctorate from Oxford based on your life experiences teaching in Thailand

Have there been any pictures of the condition of the interior of Don Muang since the mad rush to leave? It is possible the place was ripped to shreads? I highly doubt it would have been mothballed and set aside for later or emergancy usage in the stampede to leave. I can just see crews of guys in there ripping out the copper wire and light fixtures, maybe Im wrong, but I would like to see some pictures or video of the place and see what kind of activity is going on there at the moment.
I agree.. would be surprised if Don Muang was still as it was. I suspect that a rather large investment would be needed to replace a lot of the items which have dissappeared over the past months..

Not sure if anyone has done this route before, but anyone have any idea of the best, cheapest and fastest way to go for Port Moresby to Bangkok?

It's not that I don't believe you. I know many others who have done the same as you.I don't really give a shiet if you don't believe me to be honest .. got more important things to worry about...
But a blanket statement that
is wrong, and could cause major problems for anyone who took it as gospel. If people are going to follow your example then they should be aware of risks. You can go to Thailand on a one way ticket no problems.Well if you going to believe a blanket statement made on a web board with out checking with the relevant authorities yourself then you are sure going to have lots of fun in Thailand..........
Sure it required further clarification... given..

If following the rules then in order to obtain a 30 day visa less entry as a tourist (often erroneously referred to as a 30 day visa on arrival) one should produce an onward or a return ticket out of Thailand.
However, it is very rare for a Thai IO to ask for this. If they did and you didn't have one then you could be refused entry. If this happened then the airline that carried you to Thailand would be subject to a substantial fine. So I can understand why an airline may refuse to carry you if you don't have a visa and an onward or return ticket.
Trt, you have obviously done this many times, and not had a problem. One day you may.
You are right yes they have always asked me for my onward or return ticket.. however when I say no, which is often, they will ask me if I have enough funds to purchase one and I say yes.. I show them my credit card then I am on my way...

You can go to Thailand on a one way ticket no problems. When you check in before departure to the LOS they will just ask you to prove that you have funds to buy a ticket out of Thailand.. All you do is show your credit card and they will be happy.. I do it all the time I fly!
Please don't spread such damaging information.
From what country are you flying?
With what visa, if any?
From the US at least, showing up with a one way ticket to Thailand and no visa or no ticket out, no seat on the plane, unless you get an incompetent ticket agent.
Information is not damaging.. I have done this from Oz, Asia and Africa.. suspect US maybe an exception to the rule ..
Always travel with no visa... just the 30days on arrival...
It obviously can be done but depends on where from..

As of last night the final 8 for the 2006 season has been decided. Is your team there? Fremantle is, but I don't like there chances against Adelaide next week.
Don't like their chances???? Man they killed both SA teams in the past few weeks... and they will do it again..
Dockers will win the GF!

3 months after working 2 years sounds fair enough... the fact that you only received the standard 5% increase a year should have had the alarm bells ringing already..
