  1. Hey,

i was wondering :o when i leave Los for a weekend to go shopping in Hong-Kong with my Thai gf if this effects the term of my single Non-Imm "B" visa when i come back after the weekend...So, for example....If i enter Los in July for 3 months with my non-imm B and in august i go to HK, how does this effect my other 2 months stay in Los when im back ? Do i lose my non-imm visa then or not, is it still valid for 2 months then when i re-enter Los ???

Im a belgium citizen, so for entering HK there is no problem because i will have a visa on arrival for 90 days, but i was only confused if i get back in Los after that weekend how it effects or shorten my Non-imm B in Los.....anyone who can tell me ???

    Thx in advance

When you return to los the visa is no longer useable, It expires after either 90 days of staying in los or when you leave, You should have got multiple entry if you wanted to leave the country and still have valid visa, You will get normal tourist visa on return to los.

    hope this helps

  2. one thing i will say about the welcome plaza, I used to stay there all the time, great value at 650 baht around 2 years ago, every time i went back they used to tell me 1000 baht? TIT , i stopped even going there to ask for a room after around 4 times given the old 1000 baht a night, I would not have minded 750 but a 1000 for the same room i paid 650 for, no chance. Was a great place though and if you can get it for 750 it is good enough value.

  3. I posted a pic of this character in another thread about a different beggar a few weeks ago. I had told a story about this Sukhumvit farang ghetto beggar/scam artist. I had seen this person around Sukhumvit for a few years when in june he sits down at a street table and starts telling my tourist friend some elaborate story about how he has a plane ticket but no departure tax cash. My friend saw holes in the story and called him on it and pissing off the wacko who buggered off.

OK so last night as I was walking into the Soi 3 7/11 near the Nana crossing and just as I'm about to go inside the store I realize that the beggar dude is standing in front of the table where books are sold in front of the 7/11. He is talking with a 20ish English chap. I decide that I will listen in for a bit and see what the discussion is all about. Sure enough I hear the words "need 500 baht for departure tax" come out as part of some elaborate story. The Dude (me) at this point intervenes and tells the Brit that the said beggar/scammer has pulled this be4. The scam dude claimed that he never ever did that be4 and that his story was genuine. This dude is looking mighty frail these days also. Not that it matters but that dude say he is Canadian.

When i saw the picture I thought looks like a ponce who approached me down by soi 8ish in around september, the guy asked me for the 500 baht for airport tax,, I told him then to do one, Unreal he is at it 24/7,, good one for informing every one dude,,, dig on

  4. He, he - yeah that is a bit of a mystery! Not easy :o .

Do a search on the real estate board for Tabien Bahn and Tabien baan to read my story among others. You basically have to apply at local Amphur office.

    Cheers!

So when I buy a condo when and how should I expect to receive one?

    Cheers

Blimey if it is as hard to search and find the way to obtain one here i think i will leave it. Could you explain firefan or if to much trouble when i arrive there maybe i could buy you a beer or two and you could explain then?

    Cheers

  5. [Note the bit on the "stone age" Imagine the economy here if we could purchase property etc, I will never understand why Thailand does not come in line with the other 90% of the world, There would be nothing better for me than to be able to buy that villa by the sea with pool in my garden, But while I cannot own the land freehold I am afraid I am not going to risk losing my cash.

I think this rule will never change, but at the end of the day its upto them! its there country and I still love the place and the people.

  6. Yes, go to either the Kasikorn bank or Bangkok bank nr The Emporium Dept store nr Soi 33.

You will need your passport and about 500 bt for an intl ATM card.

Make sure you ask for an intl ATM card.

Write down the address of your hotel but do not name the hotel for mail if you are temp in LOS.

I reccomend Kasikorn on the cnr of Sukhumvit Rd., and Soi 33.

    Hey udon,

Does this bank send statements? I would want to open another bank account and not have a statement or any mail sent to my hotel, I want to travel around for a few months before I settle, Any ideas.

    Cheers

I dont think any of the banks in Thailand send out statements on a normal savings ac. You get a passbook with your atm card and they have machines next to the atm that you can update your passbook to keep a track on things.

    Thanks cobber,

I have a bkk bank account but my shipping agent opened it years ago with their address, I no longer deal with them so to hear this is fantasic news,

    Cheers

  7. Is it possible as a farang to drive with a Thai-registered car into Laos or Cambodia? I would like to explore those countries, and I very much would like to have my own set of wheels to be independent. Is it no problem or would I get difficulties at the border?

    And... is it safe?

    Thanks for any tips.

    Hello there,

The answer to your question is yes, 100% you can take your own or rented/borrowed Vehicle to Cambodia, If the vehicle is borrowed you need a letter from the owner stating you have permission to take outside the country and a photo copy of the ID of this person. Take all registration papers for the car with you of course and fill out a tempory export at the land border, there is no charge, When you leave thailand you will need to purchase insurance on the cambodia side which is small fee, Like $20 but I have not done as yet, I can say this is 100% as I am going to be doing it myself soon, I was doing my research on it. I will personall doing it on a motorbike and the rules and regs are the same, You can take your vehicle all the way to singapore through malaysia if you like, Only places you cannot go are veitnam and burma., Laos you need to get the paperwork sorted before hand and i am not sure on it. As for safety, cambodia is absolutley safe, no different to Thailand in my book but just use your common sense as you would anywhere.

Hope this helps and have a great trip. :o

alesypalsy, Are you sure about this re Cambodia? Other posters have indicated that you are only permited to drive in the province that you enter , and that there is a fee per day to take your vehicle through.

Cobber, You are reffering to laos, cambodia is part of some ASEAN thing, Dont ask me about that but they have regulations similar to europe with driving,, I have here a site for bike but i found this through one on cars, i did not save the car site but a bit of searching you may find it, The rules are the same for cars except in vietnam and burma, vietnam you can actually take a motorbike 175cc and under into the country. http://www.gt-rider.com/

The above is a fantastic site.

Have a good trip and please post how you found it here.

  10. Good stuff prof fart, Could you please tell me where china town actually is, I have never come across it,

I have walked many a time in bkk, love it and as you say you do certainly get to see things and places you would never get to see otherwise. I have walked a good length of suk from 4-60 looking for a condo and ended up with nothing and peed as a newt in a bar right up the end,,, the next day done the same on the oppisite side of the road and again ended up in a bar on the pee! had some good walks around suttisan area, loads of different stuff there, i have yet to walk around the river areas, looks nice and i want to see china town where all the gold sellers are.

    cheers

  11. After reading on another site i recently saw it is quite easy to drive over to cambodia or vice versa and back,

From thailand to cambodia you need to have , passport, registration papers of vehicle or if the vehicle is hire or borrowed a letter with paper work stating the owner agrees to let you take the vehicle out of the country and insurance usually available just after you get across the border.

From cambodia to thailand, you need registration papers of the vehicle, fill out a tempory import of vehicle form available at the border and to purchase the minimum thai government insurance, does not look like much, passport of course,, the maximum you are allowed to keep the car in thailand is upto 6 months, after which it must be taken back out the way it came. If you want to leave via a different exit, e.g you enter one border and want to leave via another then you need to inform the customs as you enter so they can send the paper work to the border you want top exit from.

Overall it looks very easy to do and i intend to do on a motorbike in march/april, maybe even go as far as singapore when i got my 4x4 sorted.

  12. To true, I went upto Buriram and found the most amazing type of people there, kind and helpfull with a very nice attitude towards me as a farang i was quite choked up and was upset to leave the place, only thing for me was i would get a little bored with long time stay up there, shame as its such a nice change to the attitude in bkk or pat etc.

    good luck

  13. Well as i am taking my laptop and will be moving around the country regually I thought it would be a good idea for all whom have note book to have this thread.

I have only seen stick mans site but to be honest it bores me to death so cannot read it.

Please post areas where you know it actually works and is free or you can go to an area close by to use.

Cheers to all and lets try to keep the net as free as possible.

  14. At least I will not have to involve the work permit + labor dept. too as my extension is based on investments.

Still it seems that nobody can answer WHY it works like that? Too big a work load? More money earned(re-entry permits)? Actually doing a CHECK on the job/wife/investments being there :o or what?

On a side note; If they KNOW it will take 2x30 days why not give 60 days right away?

Is the answer (as it is often) simply T I T?

    Cheers!

Any news yet firefan? Also if you want to leave the country with your extension can you get multiple entry, also where do i go to get extension, immigration in bangkok, where is it? Cheers

  15. I got married and didnt even know it.

How you may ask, well let me tell you. I went with my good lady to a translation office to have some documents done in preperation to get married, we talked about what we had to do, she told me we could go to the local registery office in Bangkok and sign a few papers then we could get married.

So off we went to this office, sure enough we signed a few papers a bit of money was exchanged(under the table) thought nothing of this, just a way of jumping the queue, sat back down to wait then 10 minutes later the lady comes out and says congratulations you are married. <deleted> happened there? We had no guests, i was in shorts and t shirt the wife was in Jeans and t shirt, no flowers nothing. Ohh well i look back now and laugh about it, my mum and dad werent too happy though to find out i had got married and hadnt even told them.

Same here. But we did have a good ceremony in the village later, which was more like it. Also, i hadn't even heard of a sinsod and paid nothing. I only found out about the sinsod on ThaiVisa and when i asked the mrs about it, she said "no need", we marry for love :D:D

I'll probably end up paying something in the long run though "mai bpen rai"

I must say i am very impressed by your story's, You have very good ladies as wifes and i would also marry a lady like these that seem to truly love you. It is a shame that a lot more can not marry for love and leave the finances out of it.

Nice one chaps 10 out of 10 and good luck in the future,

    A moved reader
