  1. I've been working for the same Thai company for 15 years, on a series of annual contracts. My current contract was due to expire in July, but the company has announced that it's closing down permanently and cancelling staff contracts on 30 April. (This announcement came before the current coronavirus restrictions.)

I have a non-imm B visa and work permit, both tied to this company. When the contract is terminated on 30 April, do I have 24 hours to leave the country, or pay for a 7-day extension? Are there any other options? (I'm not married, and the government just announced a total ban on immigration, so a tourist-visa run seems out of the question.)

The company hasn't issued an official contract-termination letter, and they have implied that they will not be paying compensation. I understand that I could apply to the Labour Dept for compensation, but my immediate concern is about my ability to remain in the country.

    Any advice gratefully received.

  2. I'm staying in a condo in Bangkok, and using TOT internet, but I lose the connection every few minutes. It's never been particularly reliable, and used to cut off a couple of times each day, but now it's getting ridiculous. Yesterday, every time I tried to upload an email attachment, the internet connection dropped!

Does anyone know what the problem is, or is anyone else having the same problems?

Would I get a more reliable connection with another ISP?

    Thanks in advance,

    Mat.

  3. I am hoping to apply for a double-entry tourist visa, and am considering which Thai embassy/consulate to go to. (I'm 27, British, with an expired 1-year non-imm B and a 90-day stamp due to expire on 1st November.)

I've heard that Singapore can be quite strict about issuing visas - is this true only for non-imm or for tourist visas too?

Do people have any experiences of the Thai embassy in Singapore?

    Thanks for you help,

    Mat.

  4. Thanks both for your advice.

If I can't get a WP arranged in time, what are my chances of securing another non-imm B visa at Kuala Lumpur?

(I was granted a 1-year multiple-entry non-imm B from the Thai consulate in Birmingham, UK, and the only documentation i submitted was a cover letter from a comany.)

    I thought that, to receive a second no-imm B, I would need a WP?

    Many thanks again,

    Mat.

  5. I came to Bangkok on a one-year, multiple-entry, non-immigrant B visa. This visa expired on 4th August 2005.

A few days before it expired, I went over the border to Cambodia and received another 90-day stamp (though not a visa extension).

This 90-day stamp is due to expire on 1st November.

I have been working while here, but have not found a company prepared to actually apply for a work-permit for me. My current employer has promised to do so in the near future.

My query is: what is the best course of action for me on or before 1st November? If I go to the Cambodia border again, will immigration grant me an automatic 60-day tourist visa if I pay a fee? Or do I have to apply for it in advance?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mat.

  6. There are no rules stating that you cannot apply for a new non-immigrant B visa.

You need all the correct documentation and a feasible reason for needing a new multi-entry visa. I am on my third such visa but will be applying for a work permit this time. My last one was issued in London in May with no questions asked. I do however own a Thai company and am a shareholder in another.

That's very interesting. I thought you had to have a work permit in order to get a 2nd non-immigrant visa. In any case, I am not really able to go back to the UK next month to apply for it - it would be easier simply to extend this one by 90 days and try to arrange a work permit during that time, I think.

    Mat.

  7. I have a non-immigrant B visa which expires in August, but I have no work permit yet so am unable to apply for a new non-immigrant visa.

If I leave the country the day before the non-immigrant visa expires, will I automatically get a 90-day extension if I re-enter the next day?

Also, once my non-immigrant visa has expired, can I apply for a 60-day tourist visa from a neighbouring country (eg Cambodia) or do I have to go back to my home country (UK)? If I can apply from a neighbouring country, should I go to their Thai embassy or consulate, or can I apply at their airport?

Thanks a lot for your help,

    Mat.
