Okay, if the single and double entry visas are 'going' (it seems that way and if you are going to have to apply from your own country, this is going to kick up a big problem for many) and you are like myself, 46 (almost 47), fully retired (as in I do not work) and have no job (well you are retired) but YOU have proof of funds, what do you do? If this happens, it will throw the fox in the hen house here as it will effect a lot of people if he double and triples go!
If it looks like it is going this way and doubles are gone, the PE visa looks like those with a few dollars to spare, might be the way to go. I certainly do have the funds but I have only near 3 years to go until I can gain a retirement visa and I really do not want to be forced to go home or cough up 500,000 of a PE. I can certainly afford a PE but I did not get to retire early from being stupid with money.
Lets see what happens by the 15 of November. If this is going to be standard practice across all Embassies, this sure will be a big shake up. It seems to me they do not want anyone under 50 here and you could see a massive move from many to Cambodia from the Digital Nomads.
I'm exactly in your same "position"....even the same age!!!!
Attention....only double/triple TV are going....SINGLE is going to stay!!!!
At the moment, if even Laos will confirm possibility of METV just for Lao nationals/Lao residents all we will have to do is travelling Laos more frequently....every three months...60 days single TV+30 days IMM.ext....in our case 12 more trips to Laos..55555

Well guys....today, morning, I've been to Poipet and regularly got 30 days.
I had only two previous "30 days visa exempt" in my NEW passport (many more in the old one).....so now I have three and I reached the limit....next time I will need a tourist visa.....so, please, don't give people out here WRONG information!!!!....I think this will be the rule 'til august
-
Oh guys, I'm shocked, really....her wife was my lover just shortly before he married her....10 years ago....and I can say that she really ruined his life
-
hmm looks like a death sentence case
I hope so...they deserve it!!!
-
Oh yes....definitively YES!!!!!........after reading this thread I'm sure that I am in the land of smiles!!!
-
I'm just back from Aranyaprathet (just go there for curiosity) and I also see the signs:
THE ALIENS ENTERING KINGDOM WITH NO VISA MUST PRESENT TICKET OR TRAVEL DOCUMENTS THAT HAVE BEEN PAID ALREADY OR CONFIRMED TO EXIT THE KIGNDOM AND MUST NOT EXCEED 30 DAYS UPON THE DATE OF ENTRANCE TO THE KINGDOM
Ok..all of you are speaking about air ticket but what about if someone show them (let's say) a bus ticket to Siam reap or Phnom Pehn???
It is also a TRAVEL DOCUMENT or not???
Hehe..I would like to try to do that...and if they deny me to entry I'll spend my money in another country. NO PROBLEM!!!...but, please, let me say that Thai immigration laws are getting more and more ridicoulous.
-
Capito, Maestro!!!
Now I understand.....thank you for your perfect explaination....
-
There you go, as I have said all along, a huge big deal over nothing !!
Every 4th visa run costs a little bit more

...can you explain exactly what you mean????

This numbering of stamps doesn't really make any sense.
I said that Immigration officer write "1" next to entry stamp....maybe it would mean that today it's my first day in Thailand on "90 days permitted with no-visa"...
-
So...from now go on (for those people in my same conditions) three visa-run (90 days) and then "Thai embassy visa-run"....and no problem....
No problem on paper but 3 X 30 day stamps actually only gives you 29 days on each stamp so you will lose 3 days which brings it down to 87 days not 90.
When doing same day border trips, your departure date of one stamp will be the same as the arrival date on your next one. So you'll lose another 2 days there too on overlapping stamps.
3 X 30 day stamps= 85 days.
Can anyone confirm this?
I understand what you mean...but I think that when you re-enter in Thailand with Tourist visa, Immigration would not care about your past visa-runs and your 180 days period started on time of your first visa-run would be erased (by the fact that you got a valid visa)....this was confirmed to me today.....I think (and I hope) he was a reliable source...
-
So....I'm younger than 50 years, no married (and no intention to do that), not working....
Since many years every month I cross the border with Cambodia....last time was on 29 of September and the new rules was't still effective....
Today was my first visa-run under new legislation....I was very curious to see if something new was going on.....and...THERE IS SOMETHING NEW....that I promptly I like share with all of you...
So...everything run smoothly same every time...immigration grant me 30 more days but now just next to my entry stamp they write (in green colour) a small "1".
So I ask to speak with someone inside immigration office for clarify me what is the meaning of that...
Very kindly, immigration explained me that I will be able to do TWO MORE visa-run (on 26 nov. and 25 dec.) then, on 23 january, when I will go outside Thailand I will need a Tourist Visa for to be allowed to entry in Thailand.....
So...from now go on (for those people in my same conditions) three visa-run (90 days) and then "Thai embassy visa-run"....and no problem....
-
You can obtain a tourist visa in every Thai embassy even outside UK
-
So....new "lifestyle" for visarunners same me would be:
Take a tourist visa for 2 months...
Extend it to immigration (1 month)...
three visa-run (3 months)...
Than repeat everything....
This would be ok!!!!
-
I wish to thank you for your replies....very kind!!!!
So...I think no more problem....for those in my same "position" all we have to do is to go to a Thai embassy and get a tourist visa...than 3 visa run are allowed...than get visa again and so on...
just little bit more expensive than before but nevermind....it will be an occasion for touring....Vientiane, Phnom Penh, Penang, Kota Bharu, Singapore, Hong Kong...it will be funny!!!!
Now....please DON"T make a crackdown on tourist visa too!!!!!!
Dont mean to be negative here but simply realistic:ending visa runs-ending investor visa-MoE crackdown on teacher qual(no BA no permit)-what news will tomorrow bring? Seems to be an organized attempt to boot farang-crackdown on tourist visa...??? You seem to have money so you got someplace to go...you really want to live in a host country that obviously doesnt want you?
Well...It's seven years I live permanently in Thailand now...it's normal that I hope I can continue to stay here....obviously if there will be no legal way to do so I will quit this country.

I really annoyed for what Thailand are making....now even the 3 million bath option is over.
I'm seriously think to go longway from here....Malaysia, Philippines maybe will not stress me same Thai authorities!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Well...It's up to you mueng Thai...if you don't like I spend my money here...bye bye!!!!
-
I'm a male in his mid 30's....
I like to live in Thailand absolutely without working here, not doing any business....
I don't wish to marry....
I also don't want make any investment here....
I just want to live here with money coming from my investment overseas...
So, I think, my option is....going to Penang, obtaining a tourist visa (60 days), than renew it (+30 days)....than I will be able to do 3 visa runs....than again go to Penang again and re-enter Thailand on visa tourist...and so on...
Is it legal????
-
I would like an answer to the question of heybruce.
I'm in your same "position"
