  1. Smoke pollution and PM 2.5 what you need to know.

Every year during the post agricultural harvest season, normally January to April, much of south east Asia suffers heavy smoke pollution which is seriously bad for your health & global warming. In some areas the smoke season starts as early as November and goes through to May.

Even if you are a fit person exposure will eventually begin to damage your health. The smoke pollution, often called haze, comes typically from burning crop residue as well as from forest fires and is up to 10 times more harmful to humans than particles released from other sources, such as car exhausts.

The World Health Organisation recommends that in the short-term the PM 2.5 should be no higher than 25, and no more than 5 for long-term exposure. These levels are in micrograms per ml of air. Tens, perhaps, hundreds of thousands of people are now suffering from haze induced illnesses, including those who have lived a healthy life style and not smoked. Many suffer symptoms like coughing, choking, asthma, vomiting, sore eyes and sinus issues. It can affect your breathing, sleep, lead to cancers, heart and lung diseases and even premature death.

Unfortunately in the short term at least the burning will continue so its absolutely important people understand the effects of exposure and take precautions.

When the smoke level goes over  you are advised by the WHO to wear a mask equivalent to a double layered 3M N95 when outside your home.

    24-Hour PM2.5 Levels (μg/m3)

    PM 2.5 Air Quality Index

    0 to 12.0
    Good

    12.1 to 35.4
    Moderate

    51 to 100
    Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups

    101 to 150.4
    Unhealthy

When inside your home you are advised to keep your windows and doors closed and run air purifiers so the level drops below 5. The only real way to monitor pollution is to have your own PM 2.5 meter or air filter with built in PM 2.5 meter. You, your family and children are at risk if you don't take care.

  2. Thai TV are showing video evidence of Ferrari driver doing about 80kms an hour in right hand lane and police bike in left hand lane just before impact and say police bike swayed over from left land 1 to right lane 3 then was hit by Ferrari. From what I see the car was no way doing 177kms per hour. Just because the guy is rich and drives a Ferrari doesn't make him guilty however he should now with the new evidence come back. Condolences to the family of the police officer.

  3. Those who live in Thailand for more than half the year are considered to be resident in the country for the purposes of tax. If you are resident then you are expected to pay taxes on all income that you earn worldwide. If you are not a resident and are in the country for less than 180 days each year then you are only expected to pay tax on the income that you get from within Thailand. I

  4. Lazada is great untill you have a problem and sometimes it takes ages for them to sort it out. I ordered something and something completely different arrived so i sent it back over 3 weeks ago and havnt recieved a store voucher. Also with Lazada you only can return an item within 7 days if you go over by an hour they wont accept. I also use aliexpress and they have a 60 day return policy and im saving money in most cases.Obviously there are fake goods on all online sites but just look at the description and price for example Nokia 3310 @ 690 baht is obviously a fake as the original is 2000 to 3000 baht. I bought a WD hard disc at 1900 baht it looked like an original WD disc in the photo but when it arrived it was a cheap nasty copy so i sent it back paid a bit more and got the original item at 2700 baht.

  6. Can any one help me I went to the Thai embassy in London and they told me they don't do any more the over 50 visa no more with bank statements i had to be 65 and over but as I had my marridge certificate and wife's copy of ID I would get a marridge Visa as I'm over 50 they stamped me

non immigrant O visa 12 months based on being married to a Thai citizen. When I arrived at swampy they stamped the entry date but not a 90 day leaving date so I can only assume I have to go to either immigration or my local police station that allows 90 day reporting. I didn't have to put any money into a Thai bank account so do I have to go to border after 90 days or do I go to local police or immigration ?
