  1. Can anyone recommend a shop where they specialise in window tint, preferably in Chalong or Rawai? Much appreicated. I saw an old post about this from 2010, but I'm sure there are newer shops out there now. Thanks!

  2. A highly visited scene. A very narrow path with no railing, at a great height. Inevitable accident involving the more aged. Tragic. RIP Lady.

Let's hope something is done to honour her fall, like railings being now put up, which have been long needed all up and down to prevent falls.

The same could be said for a few wats in Ayutthaya.... steep stairs, but nothing to hold onto. I guess we'll have to wait for the same to happen here, to see improvements.

A sad loss, for a family that works hard to get away on holiday. sad.png

Very steep steps also at Chichen Itza in Mexico, but they have installed chains and ropes down the middle of the stairs so people can hold on as they go up and down.

  3. I'm intrigued how he managed to get a wad that big up there.

100k barely fits into my pockets.

Keep in mind how dirty money is. Hope he gets dysentery.

Yeah, 100,000 is a lot of cash. If u rolled it up--and even that would be hard to do, it would be at least 5 inches in diameter and about 6 inches long. Not to mention that im sure it was wrapped up in something like cellophane or even a rubber. ..gotta hurt.

  4. The Andy Griffith Show

I don't know if u are joking or not, but that is a great show. All those shows of the 60s and 70s are great and most didn't have obvious sexual content and they were all good.

  5. I agree with the original post. I went on DEC 23, but I was not aware that they close for an hour at lunch. I had to wait for an hour, but once I found out it was on the first floor, it went quite quickly. A few people in front of me got though fast, but a Korean guy that managed to jump in front of me at the farang volunteer counter who got his number before me, was being scrutinized by the immigration officer. He alone took 20 minutes, but after him, I was up and in 4-5 minutes I was finished. So not a big headache at all.

  6. I'm not sure, but it's probably the same reason you see 14 and 15 year old girls working the bars: b/c they have to.

i have heard this said numerous times but I have yet to see anyone that looks younger than 18 working in a bar. I've been here a few years in Phuket in Patong in Rawai in kata and Karin and many times on Nana in BKK and I have never seen this. Not even someone that looks questionable and that is difficult with Asians in general looking young. I just haven't seen it.
  7. There is a new Mexican place in Kata at Dragon Layre bar. The cook is Mexican and everything I had was good. Tostadas nachos salsa and guac. All very authentic. American owner a nice guy named Randy. My friend could not finish his combination plate bcz he was stuffed--it had so much food on it. Its on Patak Rd, the main road in Kata, opposite the Kata market and opposite a dental clinic Good stuff.

  8. Just saw on another website that there is a new Mexican restaurant in Kata at a bar called Dragon Layre. Just saw it posted this evening. I'll check it out tonight and let yall know if it is any good. Some poster took some pics there and said it was "authentic". We'll see.

  9. What a silly question. U think all of Thailand's economy is based on bars? If that we're the case, Phuket would have been extinct after the tsunami. The bars were closed for months. And as far as feeling sorry for the bar girls, I am sure they will even make more money by telling their numerous sponsors overseas they need more money. "Please teerak, can send more money this month?" And then they copy and paste it to the ten other guys they are already milking. This curfew seems like a great thing for the bar girls.

  10. I am under the impression that the potting soil you can readily buy locally has not been sterilized and therefore may contain fungi that will attack your plants. Try purchasing some of the local stuff and place the bags in the direct sun for a few weeks turning over every few days. The sun's heat should sterilize the soil and may help with your problems.

Thanks, I'll try that with the two new bags I bought.

  11. I use this stuff (Din Dee = "Good Soil"):

    attachicon.gifGoodSoil.jpg

I don't know if it's any good as I usually use it just to top up my plant pots. But a couple of weeks ago I used it to try to grow some cacti from seeds, and nothing has happened yet! biggrin.png

But I guess cacti take a long time to grow... blink.png

I have used this soil, but it doesn't really look like soil. It is very gray and does not have the texture of soil. Have u had good results? I bought some soil from Home Pro yesterday but it was a very small pack and labeled organic. They did not have any bigger packs, so I bought three small ones for 30 baht each (30 is what the big Din Dee sell for). This soil looks more like soil. I mixed it in with the Din Dee and will see what happens. Thanks!

  12. I was wondering if any of the big shops, ie Homepro, has potting soil. I have tried to grow some peppers and tomatoes but they are lacking all the time. I have used the soil from the numerous plant and flower nurserys around Phuket, but I don't like that soil. It has a lot of fibers in it. Can someone point me in the right direction, please?

  13. Is there a tortilla factory in Thailand or anywhere near Thailand to buy tortillas in bulk? The ones they sell at any of the stores (Macro and Villa Mart) I have been to are horrible and even more horribly overpriced.

  14. These street sellers, make more money than you think.

Don't judge a book by its cover.

I am sure they make A LOT of money--all tax free. They have very little overhead,...and make sometimes 300% profit on those flowers...Same as the bars who make sometimes 400% profit by selling a Chang for 130 baht in some places in patong when it costs like 32 B at the shop.

  15. in some of the thai bar areas they are touting more than flowers. if the cops don't mention it does not exist.

I have also seen some flower girls selling the Thai only bars, but I have never seen Thai guys buy any flowers,....sometimes the female Thai patrons will but something, but not like in the farang catered-to bars.

  16. As long as people buy roses or other stuff from the kids, they are considered valuable money making assets by their keepers.

These kids do not make the choices to stay at the streets. The adults who collect the money do. They make their decisions based how much money the kids can bring in.

Stop buying stuff from the kids. Stop giving them any money how ever cute they are.

And then perhaps they will starve eh. coffee1.gif

I doubt anyone of them will starve. The most important thing is that they stay in school.

  17. If it's the same girl i am thinking about. There are about 3 sisters when they get to old to look cute and cheeky the younger one steps in.All speak very good English.

Yeah,..Those are them. They get dropped off by their mother and stay really late. The older one, maybe 9 yrs-old, gets there early and starts playing pool. She is getting to be a pest, but as long as people buy her flowers, she will continue to sell.
