  1. It's ridiculous. I was going to to that previously (make an appointment in advance, arrive, stay at hotels, taxis, lines, hot sun, etc. etc.). I elect to go overland to Laos or Cambodia, stay a few days for R&R and fly back; with transit flight from Don Muang there is never a line going to domestic, go to the buffet cafe load up on good food and Johnny Walker and imported red wine, and fly home. No immigration fee either.

  2. Big T73, where is this? Which Friendship bridge?

Earlier last year my Tourist Visa application was rejected by the consulate in Phnom Phen - despite having all supporting documents; money, airline in and out, chanote, attorney, monthly income... so I contacted my attorney (who owns my land) and he refered me to a Thai immigration official who knows us from Mae Sai (now in BKK). She said to simply fly in. So I did. No problem. The next time though I was selected for a secondary interview in the office (arriving at BKK); the polite woman official suggested I get another passport due to the fact I had so many stamps in it - and running out of pages. I know... ... I know... ... I am trying to afford a retirement visa and/or wife. Good luck everybody.

  3. Sorry to have to inquire on an old topic; I have been coming and going to Thailand for many years and have followed the law, lease a house, and travel a lot. In this case, I was recuperating from a mugging in Phnom Phen at home in Thailand, then in addition encountered severe allergy conditions (visited the doctor specialist twice). In so doing with all the medication and trauma, my thinking was not clear nor focused (obviously) and I forgot about extending my visa on arrival (32 days now). I intend to visit the immigration office tomorrow asap, but would welcome any advice and suggestions. I have a house lease, some cash, proof of monthly income and then some (no not enough for retirement).  Much obliged for any insight. Thanks, khap Khun khrap.

  4. Thank you for your replies, gentlemen.

To help clarify, I have been living technically legally in Thailand when I am there. I also travel around the world, return to the U.S. as desired, followed the prescribed law which falls into 'tourist' activities, do not work illegally, am 61 (don't want retirement visa yet). and am single. Previous visa apps have been overseen by my attorney and visa immigration in Mae Said with approval. They  know us - for many years. So, I am legal. As for now, I am attempting to obtain a tourist visa, and according to THAI LAW as prescribed to visa applicants online (which may not mean much to some), I meet the criteria of obtaining a tourist visa, i.e. exit flight, accommodations, monthly income, not working in Thailand, guarantor, cash in the Thai bank, cash in another Thai bank, and cash in an American bank. There is nothing that says you can not have unlimited tourist visas in a year. There is a new law that says you can only do a visa on arrival twice in 12 months (which I've already done of course).  Thanks for your comments.

  5. Sawaht dee, sorry if this is a repetitive query, but i can't find a remedy. Have 'lived' in Thailand for many years legally with numerous tourist visas and visa on arrivals / extensions etc. (I am from U.S.). In Cambodia now (again) trying to get another tourist visa; I was denied despite the fact I have 2 bank accounts with ample funds, a valid passport/application/photos, a ticket from BKK to Laos in 2 months, and a house.  My attorney and immigration connection suggested Visa on Arrival at BKK, but they are unaware I guess, that U.S. citizens can not do this. In my passport, full of Thai and other world travel visa stamps (but still empty pages) there is the recent tourist visa I applied for -  that was actually 'administered' in my passport - but before it went out the door it was invalidated with a stamp that said 'Void without Prejudice". Let it be known, that I have followed all of the conditions set forth in the Thailand Visa govt. website as  prescribed by law (money, income, exit ticket, place to stay etc., even attorney guarantee) but they still did not grant it.  Any ideas what to do fellow Farangs? Go to Laos and try there? Go back to US? Get another passport in Cambodia? Go to Laos and apply?   Any input is appreciated. Khap khun nakhrap!

  6. Indeed, burning has been illegal for some time now. Mai bpehn rai nakhrap. My neighbors continue to burn their crap to no avail - as well as villagers - despite previous complaints. It is utterly amazing how these people can continue to break the law, alienate good neighbors (me), refuse to compost, and have total disregard for their environment and the air they breathe.

I really question why I still live here. The U.S., as we all know surely has it's <deleted>, but at least the smoke burning their crap doesn't drift into my house there.

  7. Reminds me of me in Canada; crossing the border from the U.S. (driving), the Canadian Immigration haphazardly asked me if I had ever been arrested; I said no thinking they meant during the last 7 years prior to the statute of limitations expiring (if Canada has one) (I'm U.S.); They then pointed out that I had been arrested for assault of a bar bouncer (self defense) and put in jail for the night. Later, I the charge was dropped and I was acquitted. Nevertheless, the record and incident remained despite that it was self defense and dropped and happened 10 years prior to the border crossing. They let me cross after my explanation.

  8. I flew from San Francisco to Amsterdam for a Rolling Stones show; had my Stones jacket on, top hat, was half hammered, the lady at the gate asked if I was with the Stones... without hesitation I implied... "of course I'm with the Stones!" without thinking why... and she said right this way sir... which was to the left...

business class section... had a beauty flight attendant sit next to me 1/2 the way, bottles of French wine included.   He he he he ;)-    sometimes you can get what you want if you try... ... even if you don't try sometimes.
