Ch. Numchai shop with yellow frontage on Thepprasit close to soi 9. The name of the proprietor is Top. I think he is the son of big Numchai bike shop in Naklua on Sukhumvit so good back up. Speaks excellent English.

Yep fully agree. Nice family run shop . Top very helpful. Goes out of his way to be of assistance.

  2. Done 3 at BPH 3,800 baht . Done by 0800hrs results by 1500 hrs same day worked perfect all 3 times for me.    Do make an appointment 48 hours before not completely necessary but does not hurt.

  3. I left home Feb 2nd for what was to be a 5week hitch, 1 week in town then 4 on the rig. Ended up being 3 weeks in town then the rig. Still on the rig but with the operation at a stage where I can get into town for 3 days which I will do. Our max days for all our crews have gone from 35 to 43. Just sent 6 off today for a week in town. Operations ongoing but main problem is equipment from town We are offshore Malaysia & they have total lock down of any of our people getting into the country, was supposed to be classed as essential service but still up in the air.

Am gearing up to stay till at least june. Greatest fear is that the virus finds its way out to the rig. If that happens we have a plan to suspend all operations & leave but with around 180 people on board will be a logistical nightmare.Stringent checks on crew changes even with the reduced numbers. Prior to total travel ban anyone coming into the country required 14 days isolation imposed by company.

Certainly not an ideal situation but making the best of what we have. Morale is still surprisingly high but I think that comes mainly from everyone being in the same situation.  I know our company as the client is looking after our people & doing what they can for service providers & contractor but those companies also need to step up & com to the party for their hands ( ie show em the money ). Have booked 1/2dozen villas onshore so anyone getting a reset break will at least have pleasant surrounds for it.

Stay safe & good luck to all.

  4. Sorry mate can't be of help. Have played there a lot & not seen the caddy you are looking for.

I will be there on the weekend of July 5th & can ask for you & will pass on info if one is there, but honestly to my knowledge I didn't know there was one. Have you spotted her yourself or taking someones word for it.

Pattaya is full of gold dealers! Dozens around Pattaya Tai. Do not deal with a farang as it will be an illegal action.

Really ?  You know Jan & the business he operates & has done for 20 years plus. May want to check facts sir as working with a work permit in a registered business is not illegal or at least it wasn't last time I heard. Care to share if the law has changed as I would be interested .

Blackjack up 2 u about trying to contact Jan. He is above board & legal but I defer to those with superior knowledge of all things on TV. When I get back to Pattaya ( after Songkran ) I will dig up his contact & PM you. You can talk to him and make your decision from there.

If you want PM me the price you are looking for on each coin, I may know someone interested in a least one of them.

  6. Have played a couple of courses here. Rainbow Hills 27 hole good course designed by Mike Poellot's group who have done some courses around Bangkok. Gunung Geulius a 36 hole Peter Thompson course more established . Good golfing, about 60 kms from Jakarta on the expressway so pick your time & access not that bad ( until you get off the expressway in jakarta ) . There are a lot of good courses around Bogor as well as Jakarta. Would like to spend more time there but the traffic is a nightmare in Jakarta.

Black Jack don't know if any help but the only dealer I have come across in Pattaya is a  is a Farang . His name is Jan a Danish guy that has been here forever. I used to have his number but lost it. He is sometimes at the PSC bowling every Friday. They bowl above the old Tops supermarket on cnr Klang & 2nd Road usually around 14:00 hrs. Wouldn't make a special trip but if the area stop up & ask one of the bowlers, . if he is not there one of the Thai girls bowling may have his or his wife number. If I track down his number will pm you.

  8. Kenny ask the Aussie consulate when applying for your new passport to give you a letter saying that they have issued it to you. I thought that it was a thing of the past but when I went to have my extension of stay transferred to my new passport by immigration in Jomtien they wanted to see the proof that they had indeed issued it. within th

This had happened before but I thought they had got rid of this practice. They may well have & I got the run around. As I had to get to Vietnam for work I sourced someone that would get the visa transferred the next day ( for a fee ).

Maybe Mr T can shed some light on if he had to have the letter or not. I didn't have time to argue.

  9. I just did this on my return to Thailand.approx 3 weeks ago Arrived at Bangkok with both passports 1 year extension of stay & reentry permit, checked visa & reentry stamped me in on my new passport no problem. Went to have my visa transferred to new passport & the old chestnut of needing a letter from passport authority to verify that they had issued me new passport & canceled old one. Seeing the old one had the cover cut off I thought that was a give away.

I was under the impression this was not needed anymore but apparently it is. went to the agent next door ( Jomtien Soi 5 ) & for 5 k they took my passport & sorted it all out for me. Usually i would have gone & got the correct paperwork but only had 7 days in Thailand & didn't feel like spending any more time at immigration than I had to.

There is a form at immigration for having visa's changed between passports but as far as I can make out still need the letter. Who knows as different strokes for different folks.

  10. I renewed mine with  45 days left on it last year. I went & talked to the officers in Jomtien & they couldn't have been more helpful. It was actually about 50 days before expiry on my visa & she said can do when 45 days left, went & talked to the boss. When she returned she suggested that I was leaving to go to " work " & a letter from my company in Australia as well as a ticket showing when I was leaving would suffice. Went back in with 45 days left with letter regarding work & e ticket & picked up the extension the next day. The year extension was taken from the original expiry date so didn't loose any time.

  11. Bangrumgrad. had it done there in March. Ring up make an appointment. Get there at least 40 mins early as have to check in at reception & fill in paperwork. I had appointment at 09:30 hrs got called about 09:40, blood pressure etc, piss test, hearing & sight test. Into see the doc whack on the knee to test reflexes check breathing. Take a seat paperwork done certificate issued out of the by noon.  Toal cost was around 3,500 baht, maybe a little more or less. Very easy, if you are entering from Soi 1 side is in the building on the right .  Sorry can't remember the docs name but their website should have it. No blood tests required.

  12. Anyone know if Suzann Pettersen played in Pattaya this weekend ? We grew up in the same city in Norway so Im cheering on her to do well.

She came into the clubhouse restaurant after the last round & sat at the table next to us. Had just had a shower & changed for the trip to Singapore. Beautiful looking lady dressed very casually with her hair tied back. She was sitting with an elderly couple who we where talking with during the day, may well have been her parents the lady looked like she could be her mum. Not only a good looking girl but a hell of a golfer as well.

  13. Saw the Lakes is being used now. Any updates from someone that has played it. Have heard both sides different people different ideas. Have heard that it is only " fair " shape having seen the rest of the course a month or so ago that comes as no surprise.

Would bbs interested in any comments from golfers on here.

    What does 'bbs' mean?

oops supposed to read " be interested ".

  14. Sorry Jobin but how can u blame a caddy for this. If you are playing in a tournament format ( no gimmess) why would you not be marking & replacing the ball yourself. If it is that important to post about it surely you would realise that it is your responsibility These girls / guys are not caddies they are bag toters. Personally I enjoy having them there but all they have to do is keep up & be pleasant . I will mark my own ball , repair my pitch marks & rack the bunker as I was taught to do when I started playing golf.

Learn a lesson from what happened .

  15. Just received below:

{As predicted, Phoenix have doubled the Pattaya Sports Club green fee feom 950 baht to 1900 baht with effect from 1st November.

I doubt if any PSC groups will now consider Phoenix, there is much better value elsewhere,

Or perhaps that is what Phoenix management want ?

One the dark side bars played there on Monday. Their rate was 1750 baht which included G/F , caddy fee & cart. 1200 baht if walking. I believe they have this deal till December 1st for their golf days. Seems there is different prices for everyone & anyone. Had a beer with a couple of the guys after & they said the course was in pretty ordinary shape especially the greens.

  16. Is there a choice? I am only aware of the PSC for official (in this case USPGA) handicap registration.

Join TGA. 660 baht first year 360 baht a year after that. Handicaps updated 1st of every month under the USGA guidelines. Scores are input online. Go to their website to see the details. Can be no argument from any of the golfing societies in Pattaya as this is the golf governing body for Thailand.

  17. Who said the OP is riffraff ?

Most likely most of us were "riffraff" when we first came to Pattatya and the many who found wifes and lives here and became non-riffraff moved to the dark side or other surrounding areas.

    Seeing as the OP's next question will be "Why do they call it the dark side"? I will give my true theory;

In 2005 when they were cutting power off at first the "Cock Inn" and "Noi's" and a few other bars for not paying copyright fines week after week it became knows as The Dark Side.

I'm sure many will disagree but ......

Come on Gone, you always have many sensible posts inhere but now your theory sounds like a bar theory :-)

Anyways, the reason imo why they call it the Darkside goes back a few years when there were hardly any lights at the roads and just a few moo baans and thats it. Thats why it was called the Darkside.

Nothing like it is now at Khao Noi,NPW,SSCC and Khao Talo.

Sorry to disagree but I was one of the patrons sitting in those bars in 2005 when we were drinking in the "dark" and I had never heard it called the dark side until during those times.

People never called it the dark side when there were less lights and less developed. There was a certain spree of bars having their electric meters taken away until they paid the 25 to 50,000 baht fines wich back then took some time.

    How parochial.

I called it the dark side in 1998 but then again, I wasn't sitting in a bar without electricity on Khao Noi, Khao Talo, Nernplubwan or anywhere else in (what is now) the Pattaya ghetto.

Anyone remember Mick's little country pub 'The Cherry Tree' way out on Siam CC road? Now THAT was truly the dark side. It is still there btw, all broken and overgrown with 'beware of the dogs' signs.

I knew the Cherry Tree very well. We used to stop there after golf when it was all a gravel rd out that way. Lived down near Wanasin Farm where the markets now are.Nothing at all around there. Used to go to the Cherry Tree on weekends & play croquet or squash, drink beer after then head into the bright lights of Pattaya. Sure has changed out there.
