1. "She raised the example of Denmark, which raised the retirement age to 75 years to cope with an average life expectancy of 90 years. Thailand should do the same because Thais retire at 55 on average but their life expectancy is about 75 years, which means the government will have to pay for pensions for 20 years."

Well, yesss, if Thailand did like Denmark and had its people work till 75, when they expire, that would certainly solve the pension-funding problem.

But this is regression to an earlier, more brutal time. Retirement was a concept that was fought for for centuries. It may be disappearing, and not just in Thailand, but in the developed countries. Is that what we deserve, and what is the promise of capitalism anyway? Given that we produce more goods and stuff than ever, shouldn't workers at least be guaranteed a retirement, assuming they live to retirement age?

"She raised the example of Denmark, which raised the retirement age to 75 years to cope with an average life expectancy of 90 years.

Where did she get that from?...The retirement age in DK is 68 for public age pension, for all persons born after 31 December 1962.

  2. I hear what you all say and the logical decision would be to say no. But is it that bad a thing to listen to your heart and do what you think you should do and that you know will make her happy?

Am I taking a HUGE risk in doing so?

What risks have you taken and have they paid off?

Yes, you are about to take a big risk.

Don't for a monent think that all the story's you read about us farangs ending up getting burned and getting broke are freaking real. You would never think your sweet heart would do such a thing to you, but in fact..when the shit hit's the fan, you never know where you end up.

Ofcouce Thai girls are not all the same, but just think about how bad it sometimes can go in a western country when you finish a relationship. In most western country's you have some legal right, in Thailand, being a farang, your legal right are almost degraded to 0.

However, if your loaded with money and see no problem in losing the 1 mill bath, go for it, maybe she is really that different but i wouldn't count on it.

If she settle with a 1 mill bath house, she most defentlive comes from a poorer family, maybe she's fair to you if you end the relationship, but you can count 100% her family does not give a rat's ass about it.

    Best of luck...

Zero legal rights for farangs as you mentioned is wrong, I know several cases where the farangs went to a lawyer and got positive legal results in respect off financial matters.

I said almost..How much you time and money you anyway want to use if you already lost 1 mill.

And yes if you marry the legal way, you might have a small chance, yet still you cant own the land, you own the 49% of the house..If the relationship already gone down the drain, do you want to live in the 49%?.

If you have to do it, take a loan and pay back for 25 years like someone metioned...She will probaly say no to this, and if so...Well i think even the dumbest person know that this relationship need to end.

Well...Nevermind...just be safe and stay behind....your in Thailand, the elevator dont run to the top floor..

Ummmm yeah righto..... you try to rebutt my answer to you saying "i have never seen a truck fall inwards" with actual proof they fall outwards due to centrifugal forces..........

What point are you trying to make ?

    ********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Im trying to explain a scenario of what happens inside a truck driving with goods in liquid form, when driving in curves, i might fail to explain properly due to lack of english speaking / writing skills..im not a native.

First...Look at the truck go Straight forward..in Thailand the left side of the truck would be "inside" and the right side would be "outside"

If the truck driving through a left curve (the liquid will force the centrifugal force go the right) right after the truck makes a right curve, forcing the liquid (centrifugal force) go to the left side of the truck..

If you add speeding to that it will force the top load point to move very fast from the right and towards the left side, causing the truck to tip and fall down inside the lane where you driving...bang..tomato..

    I hope it makes sense..

  5. And that is the exact reason why you will never see me on the outside of any truck when it is turning/cornering.

It makes no difference being on the outside or inside of any truck driving with goods in liquid form...

Stay behind in curves and pass it when the road goes straight as fast as possible..

I have never seen a truck fall to the inside of a corner/turn.

...Yes in a corner turn would seem unlikely that the truck would fall inside...but i said in curves, i have seen it serveral times, with trucks speeding and un aware of the heavy top point of their load, especially with trucks driving with liquid as the top point moves inside the truck "tank" continually

Well...Nevermind...just be safe and stay behind....your in Thailand, the elevator dont run to the top floor..

  7. Speeding concrete trucks with ill trained drivers, wet, steep slippery road = a lot of unnecessary, but avoidable carnage.

As an ex heavy goods vehicle driver AND the flack I get on the motoring forum about tyre pressures whistling.gif , if this guys cement truck had under inflated tyres it would tip/flip if fully loaded..............sad.png

I disagree, he would have to run on nearly flat tires in order for that to happen, the back tires are twin mounted. If even 1 of the tires where running on low pressure, the pressure load on the last tire would cause it to heat up and explode...This clearly not what happen.

No...im pretty sure that the centrifugal force just took over, when you combine a poor driver (prob no licence and completely unaware of the law of physics) with a cement truck or a petrol truck, and then tell him he has to go from point A to B as fast as possible (or he chooses to do so in order for have time to visit his mia noi also)...you are just waiting for a accident to happen.

Now...If this had been i Europe, the driver would probably face charges of unaware man slaughter, should the case show that the company let a driver, drive a truck with no education....Then fine and law suit would probably force the company to a complete closure.

Here...since it's Thailand..i guessing a 2000,- bath fine would cover it...I would be surprised if any Thai police man actually knows about the centrifugal force..Sadly

So why does a cement truck have 4 wheels each side at the rear inflated to a certain pressure to carry the load and stop tilt.?

You answered that your self transam in some way, yes almost any cement truck have 2 axels with 2 tires mouted at each side on each axel, due to the high pressure load.

but in this case i disagere with you, in order for it to happen the way you pointed out, each tire would have to be under inflated, running the truck with under inflated on all 4 (5) tires would cause it to heat up much much faster and lead to the same..explode...

    Look this...

You'll never undestand it, so dont waste time and effort trying.

I think CharlieH...just give you the best advice in your life :)

  10. Why didn't the tourist police just phone the hotels since they had his name and details, surely this would have been easier rather than driving around like headless chickens until the old guy finally found his hotel? Oh! I forgot! This is Thailand! Nothing's that simple I suppose!

Do you have any idea how many hotels and guesthouses are in Patong? It would take much longer to try to call each one.

I think you fail to understand the point, the holtels and guesthouses are supposed to make a copy of your passport on the day of arrival and then report it to the immigration police.

So the search should be streight forward in the computer base...

But then again, this is Thailand so the info about the turist stay is probably not added to the data base before the turist already left the county again..

  11. i was just at patpong and the girls were worried about business. i guess their worries just got confirmed.

I agree it it going to be interesting to see how the bars and clubs treat this.

One thing though. It says you cannot leave your house between 10 and 5.

What happens if you already left it at 8 and are at the bar. and it is 11 are you still ok.

Maybe it just means that you are going to have to stay there all night LOL.

As to the airport arrivals. I think that a way of resolving that is to have buses setup to take people to hotels. Tourist arrives shows hotel booking confirmation gets on buss tht takes them to hotel.

Works for me. Actually best thing that could happen to tourist.

I hear the Phuket police already setting up control points near the airport to stop people arriving during the ban.

Not to worry after the bribe have been paid you can pass...

  12. Even with this political mess and martial law, they're not relenting on this visa run crackdown.

As I've said previously I have sympathy with some visa runners but you wouldn't be able to go in and out of say the UK, USA, or Aus without a proper visa, so it is understandable why Thailand, or any other country for that matter, would want to get rid of people who stay in the country without the correct documentation.

Or in Europe for that matter....

However, we have this rule's in Europe because people come here to take advantage of our welfare systems.

Last time i checked, there wasn't any in Thailand.

I find it very hard to believe that many people are in fact working in Thailand, and those who do, are they really causing a big problem for the Thai citizens?.

There are some people here that live here for various reasons, but not have the cash to deposit the money in the bank, not married to a Thai.

Yet those people still bringing cash to the country, maybe they have income from pension overseas or saved up a little bit of money to get them self going.

So far i haven't seen a single report as dokumentation for why it's so important to have this crackdown.

For me it look's like a pure money machine, and as mush as i love Thailand, i really hope they will get punished from this.

If the russians are the problem, why on earth did they relaxed the visa rules for them them. What stops them for roll it back...

Genuine tourists are fine. All they have to do is prove to the immigration officer at the border checkpoint that they really are tourists by presenting evidence such as their travel itinerary, hotel booking, tour bookings and any other documents to prove their travel in Thailand is genuine, Lt Gen Pharnu said on Wednesday...

What am i to do, when i'm between job's or waiting for work i have several times spent my time in Thailand, i arrive with absolutely no plans other than the hotel booked for the first 2 - 3 nights from that on i usually do whatever i pleases and feel like to do. I arrive on the arrival visa and a quite few times i have done the border run. I wont as it stands now be able to show hotel booking, travel itinerary or tour bookings because i like to stay on my own terms. I'm not working here, i'm not a drug carrier i follow the laws here and i don't do anything illegal. I even drive motorbike with helmet and have a international licence. I spend a shit load of money here and probably also way to much and have done so for 5 - 6 years now. I stay in thailand 3 - 5 times a year for periods from 10 days to 2 months as i like it much more than my cold clima.

As i can understand from this i'm no longer to be considered a genuine tourist and might risk a charge of working illegal in Thailand, yet i fail to understand why i would work for a month in thailand for a salary that can be done home in 1 - 2 days. I'm sorry to say but it's getting more and more clear that this country have a high percentage of no brainers or people who forget to put on the thinking cap.

Time to move on?....I recon it might be the best, can the Philippines offer me almost the same but at a lower price...Yes, and goodbye Thailand may you rest in peace.

You could have always got a tourist visa first....See ya!

Yes..But the thing is i never know when i'm to be laid off work...Sometimes i happens from day to day due to order changes. So my company tells me, we rehire you in 2 weeks. When this happens i'm of to Thailand..If i'm to wait for my Tourist visa i can forget about going cant i, i simply don't have enough time. Or i can go and hope for the Visa on arrival and might face a charge of working illegal in the country. Last year i had 7 entries (all together with visa runs). How many triple entry tourist visa can i get in a year ?. That might be the solution for me..

  14. What about those on SEMI-RETIREMENT (let's say, 6-9 months out of the year in Thailand) who for various reasons don't want the "commitments" of the retirement OA visa? These regulations affect them directly.

Now here's the thing, I would say that from ALL the classes of foreigners here, ie. tourists, working expats, illegals etc, the ones who contribute the most money into the Thai system (and take the least out of it) are these people exactly, the semi-retired here. They normally don't work here, but they spend lots of money here for long periods at a time (the very idea of semi-retirement).

The message to those people from immigration is they don't want them....because that takes a bit of grey matter...and Thai immigration heads hurt when they have to think.

People like me...Im far from old enough for a retirement visa, i'm not married to a thai, i don't have a company..

I come here from time to time, i use money, i return home to work from time to time, spend most of my time in my home country working and return to Thailand when i'm between jobs & waiting for new job.

In the future i see my self as unwanted in Thailand..

Stop with the panic...and with the amount of money that you spend. Explain all, calmly, to the officer if questioned....but better still...get a Tourist Visa, at the very least.

The fact is that no one has bothered you at all to date. Yet here you are, ranting, as if someone has taken your toys away. Your stays show you to be a likely tourist.

Well i dont think im ranting, not at all in fact, but as i see it i have a problem. Yes i could get the Tourist Visa, triple entry...but the thing is i never know how long i stay. The stamps and the visa will be in my passport and that alone i think will make a lot of problems for me i'm afraid. No way in hell i like to have a charge of illegal working on my head or for that matter a travel ban...

  16. Stealing is a terrible crime, if they can afford a holiday they can afford to pay for their Ginseng. Having spent many years in Thailand it makes me angry that in many cases Thai people are too lenient with idiots like this and I am glad to see that in this case they will be prosecuted. Do not come to Thailand to take advantage of Thai people.

Indeed a terrible terrible crime may i suggest that in future this should be punished by death or having their hands cut off...

  17. <deleted>..is the meaning of this, what kind of an insult is this to people who just come here to have a nice holiday. I have absolutely nothing to hide and I think on my next holiday here I book hotel from night to night I use to stay here for about 2 months so thats to be about 60 records from each time all in all about 120 per year I suggest everybody do the same so we can keep the police busy, he talk about easy becauce the internet but I know that's its a fact that someone have to have a printed copy here in Thailand..

  18. Upgrading all his equipment to the new standard N networking (5 gzh) can be extreamly costly and unless he buy the new b/g/n ( which is is even pricier because it supports the 2.4 and 5 GHz at the same time) the "old" 5 GHz does not support it at the same time that means if he connects any equipment not supporting the n standards ( PlayStation, iPhone, ect ect.) The entire network will be set back to the old standards automatically by the router and in that case he didn't improve anything. No...update your firmware..change the channels, set the router to wep security. If that does not work change your router..

  19. It looks your TP link has a problem with the hardware. Since you experience problems with another 2 devises you can safely disregard problems related to all your devices. You can try do as follows.

    1. Connect to the router by a rj45 lan cable.

    2. Search manufacturing webpage for an updated firmware (if any)

    3. Update your firmware if possible through the update feature in your router NOTE: do not on any point break the update process once it has been started.

    4. Once the process has completed set up your router again. Security, network name and desired channel for WiFi and restart the router Note: do not hard reset!.

    5. Diconnonect the land cable and test the router simply by browsing around internet. Also try to note down the signal strength 40% would be enough for browsing around.

    6. If the WiFi fall out again, check if it disconnect from WiFi or if the router simply lost its wan IP adress in what case internet applications will not work but you will still be connected to the WiFi.

    7. However strange it may sound a too strong connection can cribble the network. Move away from your router to test it.

    8. Work not work, if the last is the case you can try changing the security settings in your router to WEP which is the old security settings...all WiFi devices will work with this.

    9. Still not working?. Head out to buy a new router as the fault is related to a hardware component inside your router. I recommend that you do not work any further with the router as it will make you wake up 1 day as a baldie..ofc if you already dropped you hair that won't bother you I think.

All the above is a complete pain in the a.. And you have been unlucky with your router. If nothing of the above work.Save yourself the trouble and simply buy a new router. TP products works fine nothing wrong with the brand you have just been unlucky and get a faulty device.

I hope you get I fixed and sorry for my poor English I'm not a native speaker..cheers
