Hi
I have to say I really enjoyed this thread, it just brought a smile to my face. My experience is the same but different. Firstly I don't live in Thailand but in Cambodia and secondly I don't actuallyt live in the village but just spend my weekends there.
I love village life and my Khmer family.

It's sounds like a bit of an inconvenience to me. I live and work in Cambodia a few klicks from the Thai border and cross over on an almost weekly basis for a few hours to do a bit of shopping and use the ATM. I guess I'll have to wait to see how it shakes out. Currently the Thai's do not stamp me in and out for a trip to the ATM which is about 75m inside the border, they just hold your passport while I go to the ATM and return it to me when I leave.

Are bikes cheaper in Thailand? I wanted to bring mine from Canada this year but I found out one of my connecting flights will not take it as baggage. Can you get good bikes there. I presently ride a "Gary Fisher" hard tail w/ Judy front end and Shimano Dior compoments. The pieces make the bike and good quality components make for a happy ride. My other thought was to just bring all the components and hope to by a good quality aluminum frame and get the wheels rebuilt there. What do you think?
I can't ride crap bikes as I have been spoiled by the good ones.
Thanks

Almost 6,000 bikes will be available for poor students in Roi Et
The government has used money from the Government Lottery Office to purchase almost 6,000 bicycles for students to borrow as a means to travel to and from school.
Mr. Prawat Theethakaew (ประวัติ ถีถะแก้ว), the deputy governor of Roi Et, chaired the ceremony held today to give bicycles to the education areas 1, 2 and 3 in the province, so they may further lend them to poor students. These bicycles are a part of those purchased with money from the Government Lottery Office, in the scheme to buy bicycles to lend to students nationwide.
The bikes received by Roi Et were from the second batch of the purchase. Roi Et education area one received 1,687 bicycles, area two received 2,355 bikes and area 3 received 1,892 bicycles, adding up to a total of 5,945.
Teachers from various schools have brought pickup trucks to take the bicycles to the children.

So who paid for the pickup trucks?

hmm...do these font sizes work?
regards
No, the font sizes don't work. They're a wee bit small 'cause I can't see the tips you gave me on teaching posts in Korat.
I know a couple of Canadian boys who teach in Khorat. One has credentials and one doesn't, the one who doesn't has the better job. They both love the place.

P.S. CS defeated the US.
I have just finished watching italy win but such lousy acting ,pretending to be injured.

Wouldn't the more appropriate law be to impliment zoning regulations that state a massage parlour can't be within 500m of a school, or something to that affect.
Cheers

Hi
I live in Canada where the top pay for a teacher with a 4 year degree is $65,000.00/ year plus benifits and they can be very very good. Education faculties have low acceptance requirements at times in Canada, it depends upon what the needs are seen to be at the time.
How does Thailand expect to get the best for 25,000 baht a month.

I don't have a Thai wife but I did come close to it with a lady who was from At Samat. She has returned to the village(forever?) now and I cannot email her as there is no internet there. I was hoping someone might have some pics of the village or knew any falangs who might live in the area.
Thanks

I stumbled across a little place where a bunch of American expats seemed to congregate late in the afternoon. A real friendly bunch of folks and none were bar owners.
It's called Montanas Saloon( a restaurant really) and it is located in the north part of Lamia by the Long Island Resort.
Cheers

Pattaya = 2,000 bars= 30,000 bar girls
The sex trade is a big part of Pattaya but you don't have to be part of it. However if that offends you don't go there. Pattaya is also a very falang friendly place. I prefer Isaan but "up to you".
cheers

Hi
I am a Canadian planning on spending 6 months in LOS.My provincial medical coverage covers me for emergency medical treatment for up to 6 months while I am away from home. They only pay Canadian rates for treatment which should be more than adequate in LOS. However the payment would be a reimbursement rather than a direct disbursement to a health care provider. I am looking for health insurance carrier to pay any costs inccured and then await reimbursement from my government plan. Any suggestions and any idea what costs may be.
thanks

New requirement to show air ticket at land border
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
Interesting thread. My situation is a bit different as I live in Cambodia most of the year and like to hop over to Thailand every month or so to do some shopping or pass through there on my way home.. The last time i crossed the border was April 2. I had no problem at Hat Lek. The funny thing is when I book my air tickets I go to Trat to do so.
I wonder if the local immigration people will have enough sense to see by my passport that I am really a resident of Cambodia and not bother with the rules. My guess is they will.
