  1. I remember visiting my friend about 2 years ago who's doing research at CMU. His studio on Ninmmahemin on Soi 11(not sure), about 30 sq meters, cost him B5,500. The complex also had a swimming pool and good view of the mountain. It's on the opposite side of the street where Monkey Club is. I guess rent must be different now considering its location.

    Sounds like Baan Thai.

You are paying double the going rate.

3 bed in SanSai about 6k, add a bit more if nicely furnished.

Not if he's in Nuntana/Cholada, he isn't. The going rate for three bath is 15-20k and up. The ones under 10k are the 2 bathroom cubes or single-storey places.

Comparing L&H with Sansai would be akin to comparing prices in London's Bloomsbury with Shoreditch, or Hackney even. giggle.gif

Yes I am in Cholada. Thanks that makes me feel better that I am in the price range.

  2. I am really new to Thailand and CM. you hear so much conflicting stuff even from Thai officials that are suppose to know so because I don't want to run afoul of the law so I come to Thaivisa for help. I plan to rent a car from a Thai. This is a business for him. He comes recommended by a friend. Do I need a Thai driving license to drive a rental car? I am an American with just my state driving license. If yes is there a legal grace period until I can get it and still drive? He saids it come with insurance. I can check this when I sign the rental agreement of course. Is there a certain type of insurance I need and should be looking for him to have? Any help in matters that is related to this so I don't make a mistake and end up in Thai jail or paying huge fines would be appreciated.

  3. I have a 3 brm 3bath fully furnished detached house in a land and house moo Baan in San Sai/ Mae Jo about 15-25 minutes from the old city. Beautiful neighborhood . Two security checkpoints to my house. 30 baht a day extra Club house privileges with pool, jacuzzi, sauna, treadmills, weight machine and free weights. Modern kitchen with oven and stove. Extractor fan above stove. Washing machine, AC in master bedroom and living room only and two car carport, completely fenced with moderate garden/yard. I just rented it for a year for 18000 baht a month. Many people I talk to say I got beat. Now I am wondering if I am paying too much. Any input?

  4. The msnbc podcasts are better than nothing. But they do have deficits. Like current shows are days late and some aren't yet available. And others have only highlights and not the complete show. Rachel Maddow is starting to podcast complete shows but not the current ones. The most current TRMS one available I can see is 5Nov12.

  5. It's here, on Ratwithi Road: http://goo.gl/maps/MPDGf

(So that's North of Thapae Gate along the moat, then left into Ratwithi Road where the Siam COmmercial Bank is on the corner. Then it's on your right hand side. Good breakfasts too.)

Thanks!!!! That's right around the corner from the hotel I am staying at. Think I might go over for a pint later on. I will definitely be there tomorrow. I so miss msnbc don't understand why all the hotels have just Fox News for Americans. I end up watching BBC or Aljezeera but tomorrow it will be nice to watch CNN with Demos Abroad.

Where to Watch the US Elections Live

CityNews – Besides turning on the television or streaming on the internet, you might also be interested in knowing where you can watch the elections with a crowd of like likeminded – or perhaps not – people.

The US Consulate informed CityNews that Payap University International Campus will be hosting an event that will show the elections live. Bear in mind though that Chiang Mai is twelve hours behind US Eastern time.

Dems Abroad, as well as other interested parties, will be going to the UN Irish Pub. The Irish Pub will be opening their doors early on Wednesday morning, November 7th, at 8.30 a.m. Everyone is welcome to join.

Where is the Irish Pub? New in town.
