This is pathetic! Just another chance to exploit the tourists who love and apreciate this country. So the billions of THB income generated by tourist every year doesnt count for anything? This is really a new low for Thailand. Who cares about 500 THB..? But on principle the health minister should be ashamed of himself, and should be repremanded for his choice of words.

This is really too personal to get involved with, but sounds like you need advice.

So without knowing your situation, and only because there is a baby involved:

A: Never borrow money from a loanshark, you never know where this will end.

B: Dont pay them 250.000, they dont need as much, not even as loan, because you will not get it back.

C: To bee fair promise them a reasonable amount that you can afford.

D: But only if shee agrees to a DNA test. Half the money before the test and half the money after birth.

D: Im sorry to say that if she forces you to pay 250.000 and 2 months in advance then she doesnt love you.

Seems to me that everything was cleared up. The motorbike-driver wasnt seriously hurt and together with the police they agreed on compensation. End of story.

But I do think; that of cause you should check first if the driver was alright first and I think that you probably did that.

Personally I would have given a minimum of THB 500 and probably THB 1000, and if there were no scratches on the cardoor, then probably THB 200,- for the taxidrivers trouble aswell. Come on everyone would have been happy, its a one time deal, and its not a lot.

But please dont listen to those guys overreacting, your thai is not that bad, and the situation was not that bad, at least you have thought about after, since you have even posted this.
