  1. That was scandalous abandoning his workforce like that, those poor people being left to fend for themselves in a foreign country.....and to make it even worse he flees to Thailand??

Nutter, he deserves everything that's coming his way.

Couldn't agree more.....what's puzzling me is how did he manage to find 159 Thai workers in Sweden to work for him in the first place.

He didn't find them in Sweden, he or one of his Thai companions recruited them in Thailand.

But I think there is a word for someone who decides to go live by choice in the country he has an outstanding arrest warrant .

    The word is "stupid".

  2. The internet will be instrumental in the demise of the corrupt politics that persists here. Making real time, non edited information available to the general public, as well as a window on the "real world" being opened, will come back and bite these crooks in the butt.

Bangkok an IT center? Not under the current administration .....but look out for the kids who now know the truth about the world...they will bring real change to Thailand.

The slander laws here are draconian. You're going to have to get really creative and take a considerable risk for a thankless population. Focus on your family and friends, 'cause there is another corrupt rat just waiting to take over even if you are successful.

I don't like them either, for what it's worth.

  3. Man held in alledged rape of foreigner

Police have charged a man with the rape of a foreign woman in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: -- According to police, the suspect confessed to making sexual advances towards the woman and claimed that she welcomed them.

The alleged victim, however, yesterday failed to identify the suspect at Muang Nakhon Si Thammarat police station. She showed up with her boyfriend.

The 20-year-old woman lodged a rape complaint and gave her testimony to police before leaving Thailand last night.

Her case has received widespread media attention, with several foreign news agencies also reporting on it.

Nakhon Si Thammarat Police chief Pol Maj-General Ronnapong Saikaew interrogated the suspect, Pongpat Posoy, was alone at the time of the interrogation. His close friend witnessed the whole incident and also gave a similar account to police.

Pongpat told police he spotted the alleged victim in the wee hours of February 15 in a bar he frequented, and initially approached her and offered help because she had sustained a knee injury. He said he felt a sexual urge during the close contact and followed her to the second floor of the bar.

The suspect said he then attempted to have sex with the drunken foreigner twice, during which he claimed she did not resist his advances.

The suspect and his friends said the woman kept repeating, "Ok. Good".

Ronnapong said the rape took place between 3.14am and 3.45am.

"We will wait to see the results of a physical examination by |doctors," he said. He said the re-sults would be able to identify whether bodily fluid found on the victim belonged to the alleged victim's boyfriend or her alleged attacker.

The woman initially told police that four men gang-raped her, but an ongoing police investigation has yet to find any evidence to support her claim.

Police linked her to Pongpat because recordings from a security camera appeared to show he was following her.

The victim reportedly came to Thailand to apply for a teaching job.

I hope the female teacher and backpacker community gets wind of this and spreads the word. You aren't going to stop the sexpat or the holiday guy from getting his rocks off, but when this is no longer fun for the female teachers and backpackers, you're hitting 'em where it hurts. thumbsup.gif In the wallet!

  4. I would speculate that the real story is something like this: She overstays her visa and the Immigration guy tells her the fine and she gets angry and starts moving her mouth without much thought. She insults them, causes a commotion etc. She is put into a room to calm down. I don't think that a camera would be laying around the room. But maybe it was or maybe not. But she pissed off the Immigration people. And they took revenge. Then she is scared and she says she is sorry and they work out a deal to end the matter. There also might have been a sexual aspect to this and the camera incident is a smokescreen.

You are probably right that she pissed of the immigration officers by not paying what is required by law and written for all to see. The rest of your post is pure conjecture and a bit ridiculous! Have you ever been to the Ranong Immigration Office? It is very busy. They don't have time to deal with idiots. The over stay fines are very clear. Always have been. She acted like a twit and had to have her mom come and bail her ass out. She hopefully learned a lesson. I've been through that immigration many times years ago and never had any problem, as I abided by the law and did my visa run on time.

I went to Ranong for a visa run once. Before I went I was given the okay by immigration in Phuket on what day my visa would expire. (I was new here at that point.) The "officer" decided to read the visa differently, and took me for 3000 baht. Since then I went back to Ranong to visit TG's family. While I was there I had more than a few beers with the son of said immigration officer. I nicely recanted my story with his father. He told me "drink all you want" and they were probably drinking on my money anyway.

The son lived in Bangkok and was on the run for some red shirt stunt at the time. Red or yellow, it doesn't matter too me by the way.

The way I see it is, she got mouthy with the guy because she felt wronged for one reason or another. whistling.gif He lost what little face he had, decided on getting revenge and put a charge on her. Girls don't usually steal. Whether there was a sexual aspect or not, he clearly f'd her over.

I love your Thai drinking story...

I've exited and re-entered at least six times at the Ranong Immigration Office and never had any problem at all. Yeah sure, everyone is out to get you, especially if you don't know what you're doing!

You're very correct, they will get you for what they can, if they think they can.

I went to the Phuket Imm office so I had an official rendering of my date. When the officer in Ranong decided to interpret it differently, I got a bit indignant too. He quickly went to, "your not going to pay?" which I read as, "get ready to go to jail". Leopards rarely change their spots...

I got some of my money back over the beers. :)

  6. You know, maybe it might have been better for that asteroid to have been 100 times bigger, and 17000 miles right of track! For a race supposedly created by God, we have had more than our fair chance to reach Civilization. Human Race........Epic Fail !

Excuse me but women are not behaving in grotesque violent manner, men are.

It's sad that a country would treat it's cows better than it's women.

    It's a war on women.

There's a reason I am no longer interested in western women....whistling.gif

  7. " many foreigners injured in traffic accidents thought all Thai motorists must stop at a red light, but when they did that they had a collision."

Who would have thought itsad.png .

That's a bit like expecting drivers to stop at a zebra crossing, and almost no one stops. As we all know, it's a battle of wits. The approaches to a zebra crossing are not even indicated on the road - just a small sign on a post.

Certainly, people should have it CLEARLY point out the difference between normal driving habits, laws and courtesy and what to expect here.

I was nearly wiped out on my motor bike, when I went to the centre of the road, signalling that I was going to turn right. Just in time, I looked again in my mirror, to see a truck hurtling past on my right.

I was told that it's a good policy here to pull over to the left, and then check both directions before driving across. rolleyes.gif

Thanks for the driving tip. I'll add that to my motorcycling tool box. thumbsup.gif

  8. This aimed at the majority and not everybody.....

All over the world, drivers are the same.....they drink and drive (UK and Europe too), smoke joints (UK and Europe too), play with mobiles (UK and Europe too), put make-up on (UK and Europe too) look at their passengers while talking (This really pisses me off)...I've seen it all!! The Farang come here with their agressive atitude thinking they are the best drivers in the world....well news for you...you are not! I've seen more wobbly, never rode a bike in their life Farang, here than in any other country I have been to, and I've been to many!

Furthermore, the Thais don't get upset when someone make an honest mistake, they avoid the potential accident and drive on. That's what I have witnesed so far in my 2 years here. The farang hoot their horns, shout, and just want to cause a bigger problem (Unless the driver in front is bigger than them) :-)

Just drive careful, keep your eyes on the road and mirrors, and don't drink! And main point....learn to drive a bike before you get here.

    And that's my 2 cents :-)

Your post reads like a Thai masquerading as a foreigner, and I have not met to many aggressive farang who weren't tourists. I did have an encounter this morning with a racist Thai male who felt like he needed to cut me off wherever I drove my motorcycle. Maybe he was trying to over compensate for something lacking...tongue.png

I'm not a Thai...I'm originally from the UK, but not been back for over 13 years. However, I want to say......What people have described as bad driving here, and only by the Thais is true, but all of us have these same bad habits. Most of you don't know you do them, and oblivious to who you have upset or annoyed. Most of my working days were spent driving around London, my god! The worst drivers in the world are there....and you think Thailand is bad!! Then 13 + years in the Czech republic....You think they drive better than here :-) People love to slag off other people, but they do the same as the people they are slagging off...they just don't know it. tongue.png back....

Yes, I think Thailand has bad drivers, especially when compared to London.

Oh, I know the motorcyclist in London white-line and do wheelies in heavy traffic, but at least they took an actual test for the license and have a few more brain cells.

I'm sure the Czech Republic is on par with here, but, again, with a few more cells upstairs.

Since I grew up on bikes and just hit 40k on the present ride, I don't need to "slag". Since I have no rights on the road, or in this country, and no one will help if I get in an accident, slagging is pointless. Being aware of the situation and stating the obvious is not. Thai drivers suck! Now, add the racism and indifference for anyone else on the road, minus the grey matter, and you have the perfect storm. coffee1.gif

Case in point; the 22 year old hottie who had her head crushed by a lorry on 340 last Saturday.

  10. The biatch on a Thai radio channel this morning just stopped short of saying it was the couples fault for not wearing bright clothing. mad.gif

While i agree with pb regarding the inappropriateness of the reporter, she (the biatch biggrin.png) has a point. its always a good idea to wear reflective clothing or patches while on the road on a bike. Bicyclist die on US roads also, alot due to bad visibiliy.

Sadly in this case, I think they could have been wearing LED clothing and it wouldnt have helped. sad.png

This is not a thread about comparing one country to another. It's a thread about warning tourists about the dangers of driving in Thailand.

Sadly, I agree with your point on LED clothing not helping, because there was a moron at the wheel of the truck...

The woman on the radio, hereinafter referred to as the biatch, extends the national tone that a farang life is worth less than a Thai life. What would Buddha think?

  11. Someone should tell the government. This is what is really bad for Thailand's image. This kind of thing is what foreigners care more about. A lack of safety.

The "government" is a bunch of bozo's, who happen to be driving this bus. If they gave a thin "f" about anything other than themselves, power and money this might not be a developing nation.

As for the article in the paper, maybe not printing the victims name is a start. Whether she was drunk or not is immaterial. Rape is a violent crime, and about control, which is something bad Thai people lack in general terms.

As for the paper, the author that wrote the article, and the editor who approved it.....this is the part where I don't say what I am thinking....

I am not an advocate of violence except in a few circumstances. This is one. If I were the boyfriend I'd get some friends and go vigilante style....

  12. What to believe

Buchholz say 4 billion baht has been paid out.

rixalex says they have to wait a year.

They probably have "booked" the 4 billion but not yet paid out. Everyone has to wait for a year to collect the rebate. I suspect all the defaults will start happening on the 13th month onwards.

With a flood of used cars now in the market, and all of the other considerations, a cheaper, barely used car market should appear soon after the defaults start. I feel sorry for those who bought at the top, but it doesn't mean I won't take advantage somewhere close to the filter of this fishbowl...burp! partytime2.gif

Logically yes, but this is Thailand, logic doesn't apply . The higher the supply, the higher the prices .

One of my students picked up a used car for 40,000 two weeks ago. Granted, it's older, but the deals are there, if you know where to look...

  13. 200,000 Baht's? Where do these reporters go to school? They are BAHT! It doesnt

matter if you have one or a million, they are still BAHT!

Actually this is not "Bahts" (plural) it is "Baht's" (apostrophe). The apostrophe is there to show the possessive case in relation to the amount of the damage, which was the subject of the phrase (200,000 Baht's worth of damage).

The grammar was perfectly correct so you can <deleted>. wai2.gif

Now that you said it, I don't have too...thumbsup.gif

  14. Thai driving test = a couple of laps in a car park whilst the examiner watches from a safe distance.

The real driving test: You fail the first time no matter how well you drive. The Land Transport Office offers you the license for 5000 baht. Got it from a friends Thai wife. coffee1.gif She refused to pay and went round a second time, successfully.

Never happened to me in BKK. Passed and given license.

Perhaps you live in a village somewhere?

Since others have stated that the scam has happened to them, maybe you just showed up on a day when the tea coffers were full...

This is Thailand, and anyone with even half a brain knows there is inconsistency everywhere, and the lack of logic permeates this country.

5000 baht is a Bangkok price, didn't you know? coffee1.gif

On a tangential note, Thai's HATE confrontation or conflict, so keep talking until they give up. Be nice, but keep talking, and they will look for an easier target.

  17. First off, my condolences and wishes for a speedy recovery for all the victims of this senseless accident.

There are some safe visa run drivers. And, from Phuket at least, there are two VERY unsafe drivers. Now both of them have had accidents.

I know who the van driver was and complained about him, along with several other long term expats in Phuket last week. He was one of those drivers that has to drive as fast as possible at all times, cutting deep into the corner apex, passing anywhere, etc. I personally saw him have 3 near miss accidents including very close head-ons.

The other driver who had an accident was my driver... and he put me at 8 others in the hospital. 4 broken backs, one broken neck, 2 broken arms, one severe compound femur fracture, and a lot of cuts and bruises. My guess is there are at least 3 broken backs in this accident based on what I've seen. It will come out soon... Oh, and the driver of the van I was in is STILL DRIVING. He nearly killed 10 people and a month later he was back on the road putting more people at risk (with a forced co-driver though).

As for this accident, I've heard the van owner has fled and that there was no insurance, or not enough insurance on the van or company.

At least in this case emergency services responded. No one came for the accident I was in except locals who drove everyone to the local (kuraburi) hospital in pickup trucks. No ambulance, no police, no EMS, nothing.

Something has to change. This is the 3rd severe visa run accident in a year. All three had injuries and at least one fatality. It is the visa run companies fault hiring unsafe drivers and then for not monitoring their drivers better (video systems would be my way of doing it linked to geotags from GPS). The vans are lojacked with GPS and emergency transponders that go off in an accident so at least they know when an accident happens but do nothing to prevent one.

How can we, as the potential victims of this madness fight back. Simple, STOP USING VISA RUN SERVICES. Put them out of business. Law suits will do that and several are being considered (and I would be very interested in speaking to the victims of this latest accident). Another method needs to be found that takes the vans and drivers out of the equation.

So, right here and now I am putting forth the following proposal. I will build and operate a website for linking ride-shares for visa runs and provide the end services at the borders the current visa run companies provide. Let's put crowdfunding to work. In the next week or so I'll have a clear idea of what this will take and I'll open up to crowdfunding of the project. If interested, direct message me.

The only way to force the current visa run situation to change is to stop using it. We can't change the visa laws (even though they badly need revision...even Myanmar is much better). We can change the method of doing visa runs, by working together. We all have to live with the laws. We don't have to live with the system.

Yes its the same company that crashed a few months back on the wrong side of the road. KB visa run

One of the most constructive posts on TVF. You have an excellent idea. I support you.

If I could find a love button I'd hit it hundred times. thumbsup.gif

Please PM me and let me know if there is anything I can do to help. I am working on a similar project on a different topic. These two would go well together, and, though separate, they would create more public awareness!

  18. I am surprised by how people from Europe consider some speeds excessive. Even though I understand that in Germany high speed driving is allowed on the Autobhan, at least it was back in the 1960's when I lived there. I will admit that 180 Kph is too fast for many of the places I have been in Thailand and I don't think many Thai drivers (if any) are competent enough to drive that fast! The last time I drove that fast was when I was given "high speed pursuit" training at a Federal Government training center, here in the United States.

Years ago in my mid 20's I did drive 153 and 161 Kph (95 and100 Mpg) on a regular basis, but that was the maximum speed limits on well maintained Interstate Highways in the state of Texas!

A little off topic, even though I think that American drivers, as a group, are better drivers than drivers in Thailand, most of them really do not know how to drive fast and safe here either!!! I am continuously surprised that more drivers don't kill themselves than do each month!

It always amazes me that a lot of TV members think 110 is fast, that is 70 miles per hour, which is the maximum on most US highways, and a large number of Americans go 10 over the limit so 130 is pretty common. Although, there is a big difference (Thai vs US) in driving ability and a drastic difference in the roads, drainage, lighting, traffic lights, lane marking, etc. etc. etc..

Also, I believe it is implausible that the van was traveling at 180kph at any point in the journy, 10 Russians, a driver, probably an assistant and luggage is a lot of weight for 2.7L engine to push, maximum speed is probably 140-160 and the engine would be at maximum RPM. No I am guessing 120, maybe 130. I go to Chon Buri all the time and I never see any of these types of vans going faster than 130.

Whether 30 or 130 or 180 they drive like shit. They think flashing their lights makes everything OK. We have all seen it, been cut up, run off the road, what ever, cos they are showing off. Can't think of any other reason. Yesterday one near had a head on an so had to force me off the road, l put my hand on the hooter, the mrs said you can't do that, l said if he stops a passenger will have to drive the ride. w00t.gif

The other reason: Every time he floors the gas pedal he is trying to over compensate for his small pecker. It's sub-consciously driven behavior....coffee1.gif

  19. "We understood that he was a professional driver, but everyone felt uncomfortable with the speed"

Got his lisence out of a Corn Flakes box that morning... if you're uncomfortable then yell at the driver.

I'm very happy my wife thinks they're always driving to fast and gives them what for, the unfortuange sad fact is another Thai's or farangs don't.

Would hate for the pathetic uneducated to lose face.

Do you think for the sake to human lives you can get your Thai wife, (I presume she is Thai) to tell all of her Thai friends to vigorously, aggressively and in an unrelenting way, tell these vermin to slow down and have some respect for the people that pay their wages, not to mention the others on the road. Ask her to tell all of her friends to tell all of their friends, and so on... If they hear it from their own people CONSTANTLY it may just have an effect. I could be dreaming also......

While I am on the soap box, could you lay it on thick to your wife about the scams and dual pricing crap?

    Back to the dream sequence....
